Die aus diesem Kampf um die Ich-Findung resultierenden Grenzuberschreitungen sexueller, religioser, gesellschaftlicher und psychologischer Art und die daraus sich entwickelnde Schuldfrage konnen global als Schwerpunkte dieser Arbeit betrachtet werden. Ein weiterer wichtiger Punkt ist die Erkenntnisgewinnung und Bewusstseinserweiterung der Figuren, die naturlich eng mit der Schuld \/ Grenzproblematik zusammenhangt. Besondere Betonung soll ferner der religionsphilosophische Aspekt im Roman erhalten, der, ebenso wie die Sprache und Charaktere, unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Ambivalenz und Polaritat beleuchtet werden soll. All diese Bereiche betreffen naturlich die in The Monk uberall prasente Sexualitat, die in scharfem Gegensatz zur Religion und im ubertragenen Sinne zum aufklarerischen Vernunftdenken uberhaupt steht und dadurch die Horrorproblematik erst erzeugt. Als Ausblick soll die Weiterentwicklung dieses Genres anhand von Mary Shelleys Frankenstein und Bram Stokers Dracula in kurzer Form untersucht werden.
