His subject matter draws more from the masters of modern art such as Braque and Gris than from the consumer culture that preoccupied his fellow students. His work is characterised by a reductive, streamlined use of line and the depiction of banal, everyday objects saturated in colour. Caulfield consistently used screenprint for his graphic work following his introduction to the medium by Richard Hamilton and Chris Prater in 1964. The deceptive simplicity of his images, perfectly matched by the aesthetic capacities of the process, is clear throughout the various phases of his printmaking career. During his lifetime the Serpentine Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and the Tate Gallery in London all held major retrospectives of his paintings. More recently his prints were the subject of a survey at Tate Liverpool. Caulfield died in 2005 having made an indelible contribution to British painting and printmaking.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49557776433425,"sku":"GOR007005039","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49736044773649,"sku":"NGR9781849761277","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51797516157201,"sku":"GOR009730315","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52508098887953,"sku":"GOR007358707","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849761272.jpg?v=1775214416"},{"product_id":"modern-artists-richard-deacon-book-penelope-curtis-9781849762250","title":"Modern Artists: Richard Deacon","description":"Deacon's sculptures employ curvilinear forms made from a wide range of materials that are more traditionally associated with the manufacturing of industrial and domestic products. The works display both the method of construction and the craftsmanship involved in their making, through the surface details of screws and rivets, stitching or gluing used for material such as galvanised steel, corrugated iron, cloth, leather, linoleum and laminated wood. Published to coincide with a major exhibition at Tate Britain, this next volume in the Modern Artists series addresses key aspects of Deacon's career, beginning with his early performance-based work such as Stuff Box Object - an experimental piece involving him climbing into a box, bolting himself inside, experiencing the interior space, climbing out and then working with plaster on the exterior of the box. Since then he has produced a highly coherent and yet diverse body of work in sculpture, combining natural forms with an industrial sensibility, ranging from the domestic scale of his ongoing Art for Other People series to monumental work for public commissions. As with other volumes in the Modern Artists series, a key feature of the book is the interviews, here undertaken by Penelope Curtis, Director at Tate Britain. Six themes are explored, bring the sculptor's thoughts and processes vividly to life.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49622979150097,"sku":"GOR006686233","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52109296337169,"sku":"GOR011840507","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849762252.jpg?v=1761732179"},{"product_id":"richard-long-book-clarrie-wallis-9781854378415","title":"Richard Long","description":"Richard Long, born in Bristol 1945, is one of Britain's most important living artists and has exhibited widely across the globe. He first came to prominence in the late 1960s and is part of a generation of distinguished British artists who extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods. His work is rooted in his deep affinity with nature, developed during solitary walks. These take him to many places around the world, from the 'home' landscape of Britain to the Andes, Africa, and the Mongolian steppes. He has produced many artist's books, documenting walks and works made in remote locations through photography, maps and texts. Long represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1976 and has participated in numerous seminal group exhibitions, including The New Art at the Hayward Gallery in 1972.He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1989. Long's walks often realise particular ideas, such as using riverbeds as footpaths, walking a straight line for a predetermined distance, or dropping a stone into each river crossed along the route. On wilderness walks, Long will leave traces and marks of his passing in locations found by chance and circumstance. Often geometric in shape, these sculptures are always made with the materials of the places, for example a line of dusty footprints or a circle of stone. He has said that these outdoor works 'feed the imagination', whereas works made for interior and gallery spaces, such as sculptures of natural materials or mud works on floors and walls, 'feed the senses'.This book, designed in collaboration with the artist, surveys Long's entire career, beginning with key early works including \"A Line Made By Walking\" (1967), \"A Ten Mile Walk\" (1968), \"Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro\" (1969), \"A Sculpture Left By The Tide\" (1970) and \"A Circle In Africa\" (1978). It features an extensive essay by Tate curator Clarrie Wallis as well as an overview of Long's artist's books and other publications by Andrew Wilson, curator of Modern and Contemporary British Art at Tate. Extensive illustrations include previously unpublished photographs of the artist's early works from his own collection.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49674410852625,"sku":"GOR004364565","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50509418758417,"sku":"GOR005989773","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53122915991825,"sku":"GOR006026353","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1854378414.jpg?v=1751428087"},{"product_id":"mark-leckey-book-clarrie-wallis-9781849766340","title":"Mark Leckey","description":"This book, accompanying Leckey's first major show at Tate, combines newly commissioned writing with artist's scripts for performances, and illustrates his previous work as well as the intriguing sources of inspiration for this powerful, immersive new exhibition.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49734609862929,"sku":"NGR9781849766340","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50162073862417,"sku":"GOR010227824","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50401347600657,"sku":"CIN1849766347G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849766347.jpg?v=1761731515"},{"product_id":"stones-clouds-miles-a-richard-long-reader-book-clarrie-wallis-9781909932302","title":"Stones, Clouds, Miles: A Richard Long Reader","description":"Charting Richard Long’s critical reception, this anthology of writings explores the artist’s radical rethinking of the relationship between art and landscape.   Widely considered as one of the most influential British artists of his generation, Long’s practice stems from his deep love of nature and the experience of making solitary walks. He first came to prominence in the late 1960s and is part of a generation of international artists that extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods.   This volume includes a coherent span of over 30 essays and reviews on the artist from the late 1960s to the present, drawn together here for the first time. Featuring the writings of renowned art historians and critics Germano Celant, Richard Cork and Charles Harrison; Nicholas Serota, chair of Arts Council England; and award-winning nature writer Robert Macfarlane, among many others.   The texts are accompanied by a selection of the artist’s own statements, key interviews, as well as an introductory essay by Clarrie Wallis that examines Long’s unique position within postwar art history.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50393912246545,"sku":"CIN1909932302G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51052829933841,"sku":"NIN9781909932302","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51893098578193,"sku":"GOR010586086","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52481190134033,"sku":"NLS9781909932302","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53078154314001,"sku":"GOR010717591","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1909932302.jpg?v=1750899915"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-clarrie-wallis.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
