Because they were referred to in the build books as made 'to Thruxton specification' these bikes became known as Thruxton Bonnevilles, but not by Meriden. Although built supposedly to the homologation rules of the time, the factory included many parts not generally available to the public - in common with most other manufacturers! They were very successful racing machines capable of sustained high speeds, and with the handling to match. After Edward's Turner retirement in 1966, his 'no racing' attitude was changed by his successor to the 'Win on Sunday - sell on Monday' approach prevalent in the USA. In 1967, the news of a new class for Production machines in the Diamond Jubillee TT races on the Isle of Man gave new life to the Bonneville. At Meriden a new version was built and John Hartle came in first. More success at the TT followed in 1969 when Malcolm Uphill completed the first 100mph plus lap and averaged 99.99mph in winning the race on a Thruxton!This book describes how the Bonneville was conceived, the design modifications carried out by the factory, including detail on special 'works only' parts for racing, race preparation, and their immensely successful racing campaigns especially at Thruxton (after which the bike was named), Montjuich Park in Barcelona and the Isle of Man TT Production Races. A book for all Triumph and motorcycle racing enthusiasts and especially those who own or race a Bonneville!","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49531379351825,"sku":"GOR008863939","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1909213209.jpg?v=1750964037"},{"product_id":"road-racing-history-of-the-triumph-500-unit-twin-book-claudio-sintich-9780956497505","title":"Road Racing History of the TRIUMPH 500 Unit Twin","description":"This title features an introduction by Les Williams, formerly the Triumph factory race team manager. It is a wonderful book on the amazing racing history of the 'fast but fragile' Triumph 500 unit twin. From the Daytona successes of the mid '60s to the end of the factory racers, and that amazing second place to Agostini and the mighty MV, in 1969 this book details the full history of the Triumph 500 unit twin racers. The story is told mainly through the hundreds of period photos and in the words of the main protagonists themselves - the incomparable racers Percy Tait, and Gary Nixon in the USA, the racing team including Les Williams and Arthur Jakeman for example, and also the privateers 'special' builders such as David Kirby, Rob Prior and Mick Hemmings amongst many others. This is a book full of insight into those heady days of racing success for the little 500 unit twin. It is a fascinating book which will be welcomed not just by Triumph enthusiasts but also by all those interested in motorcycle racing during the 1960s. Complete with a great many photos, and beautifully presented in colour where possible, this is a real gem.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50276639736081,"sku":"GOR007873411","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0956497500.jpg?v=1751265740"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-claudio-sintich.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
