This timely new edition discusses a fresh range of practices like blogging, fanfiction, mobile\/wireless communications, and fan practices that remix audio and visual texts. Revised and updated throughout, the book examines: Popular practices and social networks associated with contemporary phenomena, Flickr and WikipediaBlogging, podcasting and mobile\/wireless communication practicesWriting practices within online fanfiction and manga-anime communities The production of Anime-Music-Video artifacts and online multimodal ‘memes’ The authors look at how digital technologies and new forms of mobile communications have been embraced by young people and integrated into their everyday lives. They argue that schools ignore some of these trends at their peril, and discuss how wireless mobility might be integrated effectively into school-based pedagogies and due attention paid to new literacies in teaching and learning. This new edition is essential reading for undergraduates and academics within literacy studies and for policy writers working within the area of digital literacy, new technologies or ICT development within education.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49594895466769,"sku":"GOR005333584","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50348657443089,"sku":"CIN033522010XA","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50348669272337,"sku":"CIN033522010XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50348977979665,"sku":"CIN033522010XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/033522010X.jpg?v=1751101897"},{"product_id":"politics-of-liberation-book-colin-lankshear-9780415091275","title":"The Politics of Liberation","description":"First Published in 2004. This work explores various forms of oppression that plague contemporary society. Through the analyses and reflections of theorists and social activists - including Paulo Freire himself - Politics of Liberation brings together, under a common project of human liberation, critical voices from around the globe: Mexico, Guatemala, Britain, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The essays argue that Freire's work offers an avenue out of the malaise of contemporary politics and culture. They place Freire temporally in relation to moments of modernity and postmodernity; culturally and existentially in relation to the First and Third Worlds and at the standpoint of indigenous peoples; politically in terms of his attention to the range of sites and dimensions of oppression and their relatedness; and intellectually in relation to the eclectic range of theories on which he draws. The book is a response to the current global crisis of solidarity among progressive and dissident intellectuals, educators and cultural workers.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49603907059985,"sku":"GOR006752944","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50352447947025,"sku":"CIN0415091276G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51002163986705,"sku":"NIN9780415091275","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52333033619729,"sku":"NLS9780415091275","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0415091276.jpg?v=1751358755"},{"product_id":"changing-literacies-book-colin-lankshear-9780335196364","title":"CHANGING LITERACIES","description":"This work explores everyday social practices, and how they influence who people are, what they become, the quality of their lives, the opportunities and possibilities open to them, and those they are denied. They are transformational leaders outside the classroom, in communities of practice. They mentor and lead newcomers to game-based learning, as well as advise game developers, academics, and policymakers. Teachers in \"The Tribe\" do not teach in isolation—they share, support, and mentor each other in a community of practice. Farber shares his findings about the social practices of these educators. Game-Based Learning in Action details how the classrooms of expert game-based learning teachers function, from how they rollout games to how they assess learning outcomes. There are plenty of lessons to be learned from the best practices of expert educators. These teachers use games to provide a shared meaningful experience for students. What does it mean to be literate in a world shaped by power, culture, and contestation? Critical Literacy brings together some of the most influential voices in literacy studies to confront this urgent question head-on. Edited by Colin Lankshear and Peter L. McLaren, Critical Literacy reimagines literacy not as a neutral skill, but as a deeply political practice—one that can either reproduce systems of domination or become a powerful tool for liberation. Bridging theory and practice, the contributors explore how literacy operates across diverse contexts: from classrooms and communities to media, gender, culture, and revolutionary movements. Engaging with postmodern perspectives and critical pedagogy, the essays challenge readers to interrogate taken-for-granted assumptions about knowledge, language, and democracy. From ethnographic insights and feminist critiques to analyses of media and popular education, this collection opens new pathways for understanding literacy as a site of struggle and possibility. Provocative, timely, and transformative, this book invites educators, researchers, and activists alike to rethink literacy as a dynamic force in shaping more just and democratic futures.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49952598065425,"sku":"CIN079141230XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51912424620305,"sku":"GOR009466509","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52147613860113,"sku":"NLS9780791412305","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52740044226833,"sku":"NIN9780791412305","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/079141230X.jpg?v=1751361860"},{"product_id":"new-literacies-reader-book-michele-knobel-9781433122798","title":"A New Literacies Reader","description":"A New Literacies Reader is an introduction to social and cultural studies of new literacies from the perspectives of educators, education researchers and learners. Guiding questions at the heart of this qualitative case study asked how teaching practices engaged with and responded to the maker movement and digital making and learning tools and materials. Over the course of one school year, Sean Justice attended to the ebb and flow of teaching and learning at an independent K-12 girls school the northeastern United States. Teachers and administrators from across grade levels and academic domains participated in interviews and casual conversations, and opened their classrooms to ad hocobservations. In conducting the study, Justice interwove a sociomaterial disposition with new materialism, posthumanism, and new media theory. Methods were inspired by narrative inquiry and actor-network theory. Findings suggested that digital making and learning pedagogies were stabilizing at the school, but not in a linear way. Further, Justice suggests that the teaching practices that most engaged the ethos of twenty-first-century learning enacted a kind of learning we hear about from artists, writers, scientists, and mathematicians when they talk about what innovation feels like, leading to the proposition that a different kind of language is needed to describe the effects of digital materialities on teaching practice.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52136475623697,"sku":"NLS9781433133190","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433133190.jpg?v=1757554061"},{"product_id":"practicing-futures-book-gabriel-peters-lazaro-9781433161803","title":"Practicing Futures","description":"Practicing Futures: A Civic Imagination Action Handbook is a practical guide for community leaders, educators, creative professionals and change-makers who want to sharpen their visions for the future and understandings of the how the past affects them.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52402429985041,"sku":"NLS9781433161803","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433161803.jpg?v=1758757671"},{"product_id":"mobile-learning-through-digital-media-literacy-book-colin-lankshear-9781433128950","title":"Mobile Learning through Digital Media Literacy","description":"Mobile Learning through Digital Media Literacy proposes media literacy education as a conceptual framework for bridging mobile technologies in teaching and learning. Mobile technology already attracts students and encourages text-language development; yet its accessibility affords the potential for more extended use, offering enhancement and flexibility for instructional development. In light of a shared vision of collaboration and growth developing globally within educational circles, this book examines mobile learning as a formal literacy, as a productivity environment for creative growth in and out of the classroom, and as an advancement to social learning through online networks. The book is a response to the current global crisis of solidarity among progressive and dissident intellectuals, educators and cultural workers.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52675109781777,"sku":"NLS9781138154582","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138154582.jpg?v=1762301140"},{"product_id":"literacies-book-colin-lankshear-9781433110238","title":"Literacies","description":"This book presents sixteen essays in the new literacy studies tradition, written during the period 1985-2010. It covers a diverse range of themes with a particular emphasis on topics of cultural, political and historical interest. The collection includes both previously published and unpublished works, and is organized in four sections. Topics addressed in Part 1 include functional literacy, the politics of literacy in Nicaragua during the Sandinista period (1979-1990), the rise of the working class press in Britain, and reader response and the teacher as meaning-maker. Part 2 discusses critical literacy and active citizenship, literacy and empowerment, language and the new capitalism, varying ways of using computers in and out of school, and the way a low achieving student challenges conventional notions of literacy failure. Part 3 addresses the new literacy studies and the study of new literacies, the theory and practice of attention economics, and early developments in the use of ratings within online communities and social practices. The final part of the book takes up the theme of researching new literacies, discusses practices of digital remix, and provides a case study of becoming research literate within a context of DIY media creation.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52686184710417,"sku":"NLS9781433110238","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433110238.jpg?v=1762327415"},{"product_id":"literacies-book-colin-lankshear-9781433110245","title":"Literacies","description":"This book presents sixteen essays in the new literacy studies tradition, written during the period 1985-2010.
