Her classic account of the 1957 Little Rock School Crisis, The Long Shadow of Little Rock, couldn't be found on most bookstore shelves in 1962 and was banned throughout the South. In 1988, after the University of Arkansas Press reprinted it, it won an American Book Award. On September 3, 1957, Gov. Orval Faubus called out the National Guard to surround all-white Central High School and prevent the entry of nine black students, challenging the Supreme Court's 1954 order to integrate all public schools. On September 25, Daisy Bates, an official of the NACP in Arkansas, led the nine children into the school with the help of federal troops sent by President Eisenhowerthe first time in eighty-one years that a president had dispatched troops to the South to protect the constitutional rights of black Americans. This new edition of Bates's own story about these historic events is being issued to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the Little Rock School crisis in 2007.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50038876963089,"sku":"CIN1557288631G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50175924371729,"sku":"CIN1557288631VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50500367253777,"sku":"GOR013975018","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":51398232801553,"sku":"CIN1557288631A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51522905866513,"sku":"NIN9781557288639","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1557288631.jpg?v=1763479832"},{"product_id":"long-shadow-of-little-rock-book-daisy-bates-9780938626749","title":"The Long Shadow of Little Rock","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50630808404241,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50630810403089,"sku":"NGR9780938626749","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0938626744.jpg?v=1751045275"},{"product_id":"long-shadow-of-little-rock-book-daisy-bates-9781258097837","title":"The Long Shadow Of Little Rock","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51022185693457,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51022187659537,"sku":"NIN9781258097837","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1258097834.jpg?v=1751368342"},{"product_id":"long-shadow-of-little-rock-book-daisy-bates-9781258206284","title":"The Long Shadow Of Little Rock","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51022378270993,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51022379843857,"sku":"NIN9781258206284","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1258206285.jpg?v=1750953214"},{"product_id":"passing-of-the-aborigines-book-daisy-bates-9781604448450","title":"The Passing of the Aborigines","description":"\u003cp\u003eDaisy May Bates, CBE (born Margaret Dwyer; 16 October 1859 - 18 April 1951) was an Irish-Australian journalist, welfare worker and lifelong student of Australian Aboriginal culture and society.
