Die vorangegangene Analyse hat gezeigt, da eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Geschaftsmodellen von Online-Diensten existiert. Die Auspragungen sowie die wirtschaftlichen Zielsetzungen von Online-Diensten differieren jedoch z.T. sehr stark. Unternehmen verlagern teilweise die Geschaftsaktivitaten auf neue Medien. Ein Groteil der Firmen nutzt dabei Online-Dienste als zusatzlichen Marketing- und Absatzkanal. In den verschiedenen Marktsegmenten von Online-Diensten sind durch Abschlusse von Allianzen und Aufkaufe von Unternehmen zunehmende Verknupfungen von Wertkettenaktivitaten zwischen Unternehmen mit unterschiedlichen Kernkompetenzen zu beobachten. Global ausgerichtete Online-Dienste konnen nur eingeschrankt von einem einzelnen Unternehmen betrieben werden. Um regionale Praferenzen sowie markt- und rechtsspezifische Aspekte zu berucksichtigen, sind haufig Kooperationsstrategien und Erweiterungen der Unternehmensaktivitaten entlang der Wertschopfungskette erforderlich.
