With contributions from a team of leading scholars, this Handbook provides a field-defining overview of RRG. Assuming no prior knowledge, it introduces the framework step-by-step, and includes a pedagogical guide for instructors. It features in-depth discussions of syntax, morphology, and lexical semantics, including treatments of lexical and grammatical categories, the syntax of simple clauses and complex sentences, and how the linking of syntax with semantics and discourse works in each of these domains. It illustrates RRG's contribution to the study of language acquisition, language change and processing, computational linguistics, and neurolinguistics, and also contains five grammatical sketches which show how RRG analyses work in practice. Comprehensive yet accessible, it is essential reading for anyone who is interested in how grammar interfaces with meaning.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50378014458129,"sku":"CIN110713045XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51019892457745,"sku":"NIN9781107130456","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/110713045X.jpg?v=1751206739"},{"product_id":"cambridge-handbook-of-role-and-reference-grammar-book-delia-bentley-9781107571440","title":"The Cambridge Handbook of Role and Reference Grammar","description":"Role and Reference Grammar (RRG) is a theory of language in which linguistic structures are accounted for in terms of the interplay of discourse, semantics and syntax. This book provides an in-depth investigation of split intransitivity as it occurs in Italian. The principal proposal is that the manifestations of split intransitivity in Italian, whilst being variously constrained by well-formedness conditions on the encoding of information structure, primarily derive from the tension between accusative (syntactic) and active (semantic) alignment. In contrast to approaches which consider the selection of the perfective operator to be the primary diagnostic of unaccusative or unergative syntax, this study identifies two morphosemantic domains in intransitive constructions on the basis of the analysis of a cluster of related phenomena (including agreement, argument suppression, ne -cliticization, past-participle behaviour, the morphosyntax of experiencer predicates and word order, as well as the selection of the perfective operator). Analysing the degree to which semantic, syntactic and discourse factors interact in determining each manifestation of split intransitivity, this work captures successfully the mismatches in the scope of the various diagnostics.    Drawing upon insights provided by Role and Reference Grammar, and relying on corpus-based evidence and crossdialectal comparison, this study makes new empirical and theoretical contributions to the debate on split intransitivity. The book is accessible to linguists of all theoretical persuasions and will make stimulating reading for researchers and scholars in Italian and Romance linguistics, typology and theoretical linguistics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52650833608977,"sku":"NLS9783110179972","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783110179972.jpg?v=1762128962"},{"product_id":"role-and-reference-grammar-new-developments-and-perspectives-book-delia-bentley-9783111390673","title":"Role and Reference Grammar: New Developments and Perspectives","description":"This inaugural edited volume of the series Studies in Role and Reference Grammar brings together papers that showcase recent advancements in various aspects of the field. The individual chapters explore phenomena such as Aktionsart, operators, discourse and information structure, argument coding, alignment, voice, and clause linkage. Among other topics, the volume includes a revision of discourse representation, a new analysis of passive constructions, and a new RRG analysis of case syncretisms. The papers in this volume encompass analyses of a wide range of genetically and typologically diverse languages, such as Lakota, Yaqui, Japanese, Irish, Spanish, and several Indo-Aryan languages.  The book is targeted at the RRG community but will also appeal to researchers interested in syntax, semantics, morphology, discourse structure, and the interfaces of these linguistic domains.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53574024528145,"sku":"NIN9783111390673","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53606344392977,"sku":"NGR9783111390673","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783111390673.jpg?v=1779193908"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-delia-bentley.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
