Juni 1258 wurde das Ergebnis verkundet: Den Schiedsspruch, den sog. Grossen Schied, haben beide Parteien beschworen und besiegelt. Der Erzbischof behielt das hochste Richteramt und das Selbstverwaltungsrecht der Stadt wurde anerkannt. Auch wenn der Erzbischof den Grossen Schied bereits ein Jahr spater quasi beiseite wischte, blieb er doch rechtlich fur die Kolner Stadtgeschichte bedeutsam: Der Schied stellte nicht nur eine wichtige Etappe in der Entwicklung der stadtischen Verfassung dar, sondern erstmals wurde hier die Kolner Stadtverfassung uberhaupt aufgezeichnet.
