Artfully rendering humanity's insatiable appetite into pungent yet enthralling prose, Atkins portrays a world permeated with empty signifiers, replete with content yet increasingly devoid of meaning.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49740017238289,"sku":"NGR9781910695937","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50478925021457,"sku":"GOR010333914","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51056532947217,"sku":"NIN9781910695937","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664963694865,"sku":"NLS9781910695937","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53337896485137,"sku":"GOR014857902","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1910695939.jpg?v=1759226719"},{"product_id":"just-energy-transition-book-ed-atkins-9781529220964","title":"A Just Energy Transition","description":"In this timely book, Ed Atkins asks: are we getting decarbonisation right? When two of the friends go home for the night, the remaining one watches TV, dances, and takes apart his face in front of a giant mirror.  Originally a play, Sorcerer is a book about the pleasures of being together and being alone. The characters find contentment in each other’s company, conversing in the placid, eerie rhythms of a sitcom in which conflict never arises. Unease is exported to furniture, gadgets, and bodily movements. The result is a counterintuitive kind of realism, lying somewhere between the procedural and the miraculous. There’s levitation.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49752589762833,"sku":"NGR9781913513498","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51413755232529,"sku":"GOR014265930","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1913513491.jpg?v=1751446744"},{"product_id":"primer-for-cadavers-book-ed-atkins-9781910695210","title":"A Primer for Cadavers","description":"One of the most widely celebrated artists of his generation, Ed Atkins makes videos, draws, and writes, developing a complex and deeply figured discourse around definition, wherein the impossibilities for sufficient representations of the physical, specifically corporeal, world -- from computer generated imagery to bathetic poetry -- are hysterically rehearsed. A Primer for Cadavers, a startlingly original first collection, brings together a selection of his texts from 2010 to 2016. 'Part prose-poetry, part theatrical direction, part script-work, part dream-work, ' writes Joe Luna in his afterword, 'Atkins' texts present something as fantastic and commonplace as the record of a creation, the diary of a writer glued to the screen of their own production, an elegiac, erotic Frankenstein for the twenty-first century.'","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49787320795409,"sku":"GOR010194015","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50478923120913,"sku":"GOR009029297","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51056322478353,"sku":"NIN9781910695210","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1910695211.jpg?v=1759231014"},{"product_id":"just-energy-transition-book-ed-atkins-9781529220957","title":"A Just Energy Transition","description":"To reduce emissions and address climate change, we need to invest in renewables and rapidly decarbonise our energy networks. However, decarbonisation is often seen as a technical project, detached from questions of politics and social justice. What if this is leading to unfair transitions, in which some people bear the costs of change while others benefit?  In this timely and expansive book, Ed Atkins asks: are we getting decarbonisation right? And how could it be made better for people and communities? In doing so, this book proposes a different type of energy transition. In doing so, Atkins explores how contemporary opposition to hydropower projects demonstrate a form of ‘contested sustainability’ that highlights the need for sustainable energy transitions to take more into account than merely greenhouse gas emissions.  The assertion that society must look to successfully transition away from fossil fuels and towards sustainable energy sources often appears assured in contemporary environmental governance. However, what is less certain is who decides which forms of energy are deemed ‘sustainable.’ Contesting Hydropower in the Brazilian Amazon explores one process in which the sustainability of a ‘green’ energy source is contested. It focuses on how civil society actors have both challenged and reconfigured dominant pro-dam assertions that present the hydropower schemes studied as renewable energy projects that contribute to sustainable development agendas. The volume also examines in detail how anti-dam actors act to render visible the political interests behind a project, whilst at the same time linking the resistance movement to wider questions of contemporary environmental politics.  This interdisciplinary work will be of great interest to students and scholars of sustainable development, sustainable energy transitions, environmental justice, environmental governance, and development studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51109424202001,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51109426987281,"sku":"NIN9780367333409","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52470817227025,"sku":"NLS9780367333409","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367333406.jpg?v=1750696765"},{"product_id":"contesting-hydropower-in-the-brazilian-amazon-book-ed-atkins-9780367609306","title":"Contesting Hydropower in the Brazilian Amazon","description":"In Contesting Hydropower in the Brazilian Amazon, Ed Atkins focuses on how local, national, and international civil society groups have resisted the Belo Monte and São Luiz do Tapajós hydroelectric projects in Brazil. Atkins' project at the New Museum was produced in partnership with the newly reinstated Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), a series of exhibitions, residencies and programs developed by the New Museum and Nokia Bell Labs in order to foster collaborations between artists, scientists, technologists and engineers. This new incarnation of the legendary Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T) reconnects to the projects initiated in the 1960s by Bell Labs engineers Billy Klüver and Fred Waldhauer, who collaborated with artists such as John Cage, Marta Minujin, Robert Rauschenberg, Stan VanDerBeek, Robert Whitman and others.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52126325604625,"sku":"NLS9780915557240","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780915557240.jpg?v=1757475485"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-ed-atkins.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
