From the Cushites to the ZanjsBefore the 2008 election of Barack Obama, the Western world was still unaware of the existence of a Black population in Iraq. Though almost two millions, one third of them living in the southern part of the country in Basra, they rarely drew the attention of Arab scholars. Like many countries of the Middle East which have an important Black community among them, the presence of these populations is only explained by the Arab Slave Trade, as they are always called the descendants of Zanjs. In reality, they embody a much more glorious past rooted in the Horn of Africa, a time when the whole Arabian Peninsula, as well as the Levant, were nothing less than the extension of Northeast Africa. Known for the endless and brutal colonial waves and occupation by foreign forces, the Near East has not revealed all its secrets yet. A scholar and historian who focuses on questions related to the indigenous black populations of the region, Afro-Arab VKY (Victoria Kabeya) proposes a new book aiming to explore the cruel impact left on the Black Levantines after centuries of policies of Turkification, Arabization, Western occupation and recently, Zionism. Though the remnants of the original black Canaanite race are still present in the Levant, colonialism and the different forms of nationalisms have favored the loss of memory of these Afro-Levantines. Trapped in a land they always knew to be theirs, they no longer know where they came from. Are White people from the Western sphere on the verge of collapse? Is White Supremacy coming to an end in the 21st century? The recent cases regarding professors and race fakers Rachel Dolezal and Jessica A. Krug could give us an answer. Why would two academics lie about their heritage? Why would they build false identities all the while ignoring the feelings of the communities they have been lying to? In reality, though Rachel and Jessica are the true symbol of White privilege and Black-face, the issue is actually bigger than it seems. White people have been surpassed by their own demons and are helpless. After centuries of worldwide domination and massive involvement in industrialization, they find themselves helpless and without a sense of self. They no longer have any culture for they spent the last 70 years developping new technologies so as to maintain their dominant position in the world. Then, there comes the other. The foreigner, immigrant, Black or person of color embodies the importation of postcolonialism within the White man's sphere. Though exploited and despised, he still possesses the authenticity of his self, as he somehow succeeded in protecting his own culture. Desperate and jealous, the dominant White entity can now rely on the brutal foundations of the capitalistic society to become the living representation of a minority he envies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53187181936913,"sku":"NIN9781636490120","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781636490120.jpg?v=1772389984"},{"product_id":"introduction-to-naples-postcolonial-legacy-on-co-sang-and-luche-book-editions-canaan-9781649705907","title":"An Introduction to Naples' Postcolonial Legacy On CO'SANG and Luche","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53187233284369,"sku":"NIN9781649705907","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781649705907.jpg?v=1772390417"},{"product_id":"on-marketing-black-rage-book-editions-canaan-9781649701091","title":"On Marketing Black Rage","description":"On Marketing Black RageA political analysis on the exploitation of Black pain by greedy leaders.
