Its purpose is to go beyond individual cases and practices to examine the approaches and ideas on which they are based. The aim is for readers to adopt an analytical stance toward the field and to identify current perspectives in ESP and the ideas driving them. Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes does not promote any one approach, but rather identifies and illustrates those in evidence today. The main emphasis is on the links between theory and ESP teaching and research. Ideas from linguistics, sociolinguistics, education, SLA, and social theories are described. Links are then made between these ideas and ESP course designs, instructional materials, and research projects. Thus the book moves back and forth between descriptions of theories, teaching practice, and research. Part I introduces the book's approach to description of ESP and the framework used to investigate it. Part II examines ideas of language, learning, and teaching in ESP. Recognizing that ESP is taught in many different countries and contexts, the author draws on a wide range of examples of teaching practice and research from around the world and from different branches of ESP, including English for Academic Purposes, English for Professional Purposes, and English for Vocational Purposes. From Chapter 3 onward, each chapter includes Questions for Discussion and Projects, to encourage readers to research and analyze the practices of ESP in their own contexts and to consider the ideas they draw on in their own teaching. This text is geared toward graduate-level TESOL education courses.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49587349717265,"sku":"GOR002815965","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49666000716049,"sku":"GOR002802678","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50361347342609,"sku":"CIN080584418XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51007512543505,"sku":"NIN9780805844184","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52583165165841,"sku":"NLS9780805844184","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/080584418X.jpg?v=1751441082"},{"product_id":"linguistic-description-in-english-for-academic-purposes-book-helen-basturkmen-9780815395799","title":"Linguistic Description in English for Academic Purposes","description":"This volume provides a concise overview of linguistic description in the field of English for Academic Purposes, charting its evolution and categorizing the various strands of research interest. Given the increasing use of English as a lingua franca, there has been a corresponding upsurge into research in EAP. The book synthesizes this research in one single volume and offers brief overviews on key terms and topics in EAP, including academic events and study genres, professional research genres and disciplinary discourses. This volume is key reading for graduate students new to the field as well as established researchers looking to expand their knowledge base in EAP. The work highlights the kinds of descriptions of academic English that have resulted from the research, which can be of interest to disciplinary teachers and lecturers, including those in English medium instruction.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50698032349457,"sku":"NGR9780815395799","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51277917192465,"sku":"NIN9780815395799","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52454423134481,"sku":"NLS9780815395799","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0815395795.jpg?v=1751043938"},{"product_id":"core-concepts-in-english-for-specific-purposes-book-helen-basturkmen-9781009376716","title":"Core Concepts in English for Specific Purposes","description":"This Element examines the foundational building blocks of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teaching. The emergence of ESP teaching as a global movement has been driven by economic, social, and educational factors. Currently, examples of ESP teaching can be seen across a wide variety of learner groups and contexts. Underlying this variety, two core concepts unify the field - teaching addresses learners' work- or study-related language needs, and teaching targets specialized English. These mainstay concepts have come to assume a taken-for-granted status in the field, and recent discussion and analytical review of them has been limited. The Element scrutinizes the concepts, examines the ideas behind them, identifies potential issues in their application and attempts to forge new links.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51598454423825,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51598454718737,"sku":"NGR9781009376716","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52682867802385,"sku":"NLS9781009376716","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52741727093009,"sku":"NIN9781009376716","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1009376713.jpg?v=1751013930"},{"product_id":"ideas-and-options-in-english-for-specific-purposes-book-helen-basturkmen-9780805844177","title":"Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes","description":"This volume presents a range of views about language, learning, and teaching in English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
