Geburtstages HERMANN MINKOWSKIS haben wir HILBERTS Rede aus dem Jahre 1909 in den vorliegenden Band aufgenommen. Die hier foto- mechanisch nachgedruckten Arbeiten aus MINKOWSKIS Werken (Teubner-Verlag 1911) wurden nach folgenden Gesichtspunkten ausgewahlt: Ausgehend von der Beschaftigung mit der Hermiteschen Reduktionstheorie qua- dratischer Formen bei Verwendung geometrischen Gedankengutes gelangte H. MINKOWSKI zu seinem beriihmten Gitterpunktsatz fUr konvexe Korper. Mit der Formulierung dieses Satzes war die Entwicklung einer vollig neuen mathemati- schen Theorie, der Geometrie der Zahlen, wie er sie selbst nannte, eingeleitet.
