Nature is the model for Messensee’s work, in particular the human figure, which he dissolves into emblematic forms with an expressive gesture. His works can essentially be regarded as coded appropriations of nature in which manifest symbols such as female swimmers, mouths, or catamarans—distinguishing features of his oeuvre. In recent years Messensee has been supplementing his drawings and paintings with the jet print, greatly enlarging his own drawings and then painting them. In this process, the artist is interested in shifting and manipulating perception: what is real, and what is fiction? This publication presents the various stages of his oeuvre, and texts by Ingried Brugger and Florian Steininger probe its depths.Exhibition schedule: Bank Austria Kunstforum, Vienna, September 4–October 6, 2013","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49738008822033,"sku":"NGR9783775736381","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3775736387.jpg?v=1750731069"},{"product_id":"daniel-spoerri-book-ingried-brugger-9783960989196","title":"Daniel Spoerri","description":"Barbara Räderscheidt, Daniel Spoerri, Hans Peter Hahn, Ingried Brugger, Katerina Vatsella, Veronika Rudorfer","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51063184589073,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51063187538193,"sku":"NIN9783960989196","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3960989199.jpg?v=1750774648"},{"product_id":"attersee-book-ingried-brugger-9783775717151","title":"Attersee","description":"Includes works by the artist Attersee (Christian Ludwig), and focuses largely on a group of works in which he explores the area between free-flowing, informal painting and the narrative power of figurative art.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51323467464977,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51323469627665,"sku":"CIN3775717153VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3775717153.jpg?v=1750903472"},{"product_id":"frida-kahlo-retrospective-book-ingried-brugger-9783791350103","title":"Frida Kahlo Retrospective","description":"The life and work of Frida Kahlo were inextricably intertwined. This beautiful monograph celebrates the artist while exploring the lesser-known aspects of her story. Reproductions of Kahlo's paintings are accompanied by a series of illuminating essays that explore the artist's private writings and the intense public interest in her life, the role of physical and mental suffering in the creative process, and the coded and double meanings hidden in so much of Kahlo's work. In addition, a photographic essay compiled by her grandniece, Cristina Kahlo, features images from the family's private collection. As an icon of female strength and suffering, Frida Kahlo has become something of an art world myth. This scholarly yet profoundly moving illustrated tribute to her life and work offers a measured perspective that rises above the noise of celebrity to discover the true artist and the truth of her art. Published in association with the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, and the Bank Austria Kunstforum, Vienna.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52817250746641,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52817251205393,"sku":"CIN3791350102G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783791350103.jpg?v=1764272908"},{"product_id":"cindy-sherman-effect-book-ingried-brugger-9783829608909","title":"The Cindy Sherman Effect","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52997149229329,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52997149294865,"sku":"GOR010717115","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783829608909.jpg?v=1767721147"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-ingried-brugger.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
