Commissioned by The Joint Committee of the Churches under the Chairmanship of Lord Coggan, it is the result of a unique and historic co-operation between all the major Christian Churches in the United Kingdom. While this new translation is the outcome of a very full and careful revision of The New English Bible , and builds upon that Bible's strengths, it is much more than a mere revised edition, being, in its own right, an entirely new version. Teams of specialists and ordinary people have combined to provide a text that uses clear, up-to-date but dignified language, that will appeal to young and old alike, be suitable for reading aloud in Churches, and prove essential for study in schools and colleges. Planned and directed by representatives of The Baptist Union of Great Britain; The Church of England; The Church of Scotland; The Council of Churches for Wales; The London Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends; The Methodist Church of Great Britain; The Moravian Church in Great Britain and Ireland; The Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales; The Roman Catholic Church in Ireland; The Roman Catholic Church in Scotland; The Salvation Army; the United Reformed Church; The Bible Society; The National Bible Society of Scotland. To be published jointly by Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49508433461521,"sku":"GOR001555801","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49611978965265,"sku":"GOR003321033","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49642893213969,"sku":"GOR001022069","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50339286909201,"sku":"CIN0191012106VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50345328148753,"sku":"CIN0191012106G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50345989734673,"sku":"CIN0191012106A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51421109846289,"sku":"GOR011240997","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0191012106.jpg?v=1751070184"},{"product_id":"jessie-kesson-writing-her-life-book-isobel-murray-9780862419998","title":"Jessie Kesson: Writing Her Life","description":"Jessie Kesson's life is the story of a writer surviving tremendous odds, and doing it triumphantly. Born illegitimate in the workhouse at Inverness, she survived a deprived, institutionalised childhood. Kesson worked in an extraordinary variety of jobs in London, from cinema cleaner and artist's model to full-time producer for Woman's Hour and skilled social worker - along the way producing striking and accomplished plays and fictions. She is best known for the books and films, The White Bird Passes and Another Time, Another Place. This authorised biography, the first to be written on Kesson, follows this astonishing career, incorporating a wealth of Kesson's private and public writing.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49523708363025,"sku":"GOR002237460","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49565932421393,"sku":"GOR003517964","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53371260862737,"sku":"GOR011698271","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0862419999.jpg?v=1750947976"},{"product_id":"slim-jim-book-isobel-murray-9781845027834","title":"Slim Jim","description":"Jim Baxter - the legendary 'Slim Jim' - was arguably Scotland's greatest-ever footballer, a left-footed genius who became a Rangers icon and helped Scotland humiliate world champions England at Wembley in 1967 - with some famous keepie-uppie along the way. And although much has been written about Slim Jim over the years, the real story behind his life is now revealed for the first time. When Jim Baxter joined Rangers in 1960 for a record fee of £17,500, he quickly proved his worth, helping the team to ten trophies over the next five years. It was the start of a glittering career and a hard-drinking, hard-living lifestyle in the big city, where he fully enjoyed the fruits of his success. But behind the glamour on and off the park, Jim Baxter hid a secret that would torment him for most of his life, a secret he only discovered the full truth about when he was fifty years old. What is beyond doubt is that Slim Jim Baxter will forever be revered for his unbelievable footballing talent. He will also be remembered for his ability to live life to the full and beyond. But had he uncovered the truth earlier about the family secret that left him shattered, the life of this footballing genius might have been very different both on and off the pitch.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49525971616017,"sku":"GOR006562106","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49789920379153,"sku":"GOR007232248","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50105256771857,"sku":"GOR006408074","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1845027833.jpg?v=1751027532"},{"product_id":"scottish-writers-talking-book-isobel-murray-9781898410782","title":"Scottish Writers Talking","description":"This is the first in a series of volumes which feature in-depth interviews with Scottish writers. Isobel Murray and Bob Tait undertook the interviews primarily to extend the record and preserve the voices and opinions of Scottish writers in a sound archive, but a major aim was always to edit selected interviews for publication in a way that would interest readers of Scottish writing, help or provoke students of that writing, and highlight the importance and achievements of post-war Scottish literature. The writers selected for this volume include those two who have always been chary of talking about themselves and their work in interviews: George Mackay Brown and the late Norman MacCaig. Fairly lengthy selections from these occasions are therefore included. The geographical spread of the volume is fairly wide: Toulmin hails from the North East, as did Jessie Kesson; Mackay Brown is internationally associated with Orkney; McIlvanney comes from Ayrshire, and bases his work there and in Glasgow; while MacCaig, who was born and lived in Edinburgh, had a deep attachment to the wilds of North-West Sutherland.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49577398993169,"sku":"GOR002011353","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49625531351313,"sku":"GOR013354768","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53362816450833,"sku":"GOR009968268","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/189841078X.jpg?v=1750769018"},{"product_id":"scottish-writers-talking-1-book-isobel-murray-9781904999898","title":"Scottish Writers Talking 1","description":"This is the first volume in a series begun by Isobel Murray and Bob Tait in 1984, and finished in 2008 Authors covered in other volumes include: 2. These aren't the kind of interviews that merely gift-wrap the books under discussion; here she's putting whole careers up for lively discussion, and unless she has read every word she wouldn't dream of pressing the tape recorder's on button. This is one book it would be impossible to read without wanting to re-read at least half a dozen more straight away. David Robinson, The Scotsman One woman has for several years been circumventing the tired old restrictions and distortions of the formula. Isobel Murray, Honorary Professor in Modern Scottish Literature at Aberdeen University, has been getting writers to talk, at length, on tape ... It is an utterly gripping collection. Because the writers are allowed to express themselves without being manipulated or paraphrased, their conversation evolves into real revelation. Murray's consummate skill as an interviewer. She never intrudes, or interrupts, or postures. These interviews open a window onto each writer's mind and work. Joan Lingard talks of her many superb children's books, both Scottish and Irish, as well as her adult novels. John Herdman follows a darker philosophical tradition of Scottish thinking that stems from Hogg and his \"Confessions of a Justified Sinner\". Saltire Prize winner, Janice Galloway discusses her journeys in fiction with some departures from conventional novel writing. The short story writer and Booker shortlisted novelist, Ali Smith enjoys striking sparks off the interviewer, her former university supervisor. And Robin Jenkins, winner of a lifetime achievement award for his Scottish fiction, was in a rare talkative mood; his candid discussion is particularly poignant in light of his recent death.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49618372821265,"sku":"GOR010058877","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51616357253393,"sku":"GOR003318898","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0859766462.jpg?v=1751044601"},{"product_id":"scottish-writers-talking-ii-book-isobel-murray-9781862322806","title":"Scottish Writers Talking II","description":"These long interviews with very different Scottish writers do not aim at the topical, but to produce a thoughtful window on each writer's mind and work. Recorded at intervals over 16 years, they go at the writer's chosen pace. Writers relish them. Naomi Mitchison had not met anyone who'd read so much of her work for many years, and she enjoyed the discussion. Iain Crichton Smith incorporated the conversation seamlessly into his ceaseless exploration of life, art, beliefs and poetry. Bernard MacLaverty was his endlessly amusing self, causing interviewer hilarity while giving a reasonably serious account of his writing career which will fascinate readers of his latet novel, \"The Anatomy School\", though the interview was many years ago. Iain Banks told of a young writer coming to publication, from the shadow of the Forth Bridge to frustrations in London, but at last to \"The Wasp Factory\", and Alan Spence was entertaining and enlightening as well as funny on subjects from his boyhood in Govan and his introduction to meditation, to his work for the theatre.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49619454427409,"sku":"GOR001772153","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50800092741905,"sku":"GOR003274229","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1862322805.jpg?v=1751155682"},{"product_id":"scottish-writers-talking-4-book-isobel-murray-9781904999881","title":"Scottish Writers Talking 4","description":"This is the fourth and final volume in a series begun by Isobel Murray and Bob Tait in 1984. There she throve and shone, but was refused any chance of higher education, and ended up a year in a mental hospital. After marriage, she became a cottar wife around North East Scotland, before moving to London, where she combined writing novels and radio plays with jobs from cleaning a cinema to producing Woman's Hour.
