In February, Malcolm X, a Black religious leader and human rights activist, was slain. Bloody Sunday followed in March when 600 civil rights protesters attempted to walk from Selma to Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, to oppose the suppression of the Black vote. As a result, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was ultimately signed into law in August. The civil rights movement succeeded in getting legislation passed, but the fight against racism, discrimination, and hatred was far from over.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

The years from 1955 to 1965 are at the heart of the civil rights movement-from the Montgomery bus boycott to the Voting Rights Act. The contributions of key activists, including Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, Barbara Nash, and Malcolm X, are part of the narrative. Demonstrations of passive resistance and legal challenges were often met with bloodshed and violence against Black Americans fighting to end segregation and discrimination. As a young girl, playwright Lorraine Hansberry walked everywhere with a notebook, eager to capture the sights, sounds, and stories of the people around her. First Lorraine watched her parents' triumph in the Supreme Court case of Hansberry v. Lee. Then she discovered the magic of theater. Next, she unlocked the power of her voice, crafting A Raisin in the Sun. Her play went on to influence generations of artists and the world was never the same. Lyrical, vibrant, and empowering, What I Must Tell the World is a celebration of Lorraine Hansberry's life and legacy, and a love letter to the power of theater and storytelling.
Learn about the key events of the civil rights movement in the latest installment of this exciting and informative series.
The year 1967 was pivotal to the civil rights movement. Twitter, as you may know, is a social networking and microblogging service that allows its users to send text messages (tweets) of 140 characters or fewer. The popularity of Twitter provides a clue that brevity is an increasingly preferred characteristic of information. Based on the Twitter concept, I reasoned that if experienced project managers could come up with 140 tips, each in 140 words or less, that would constitute a concise body of knowledge useful for all project managers. That day, I sent e-mails to my friends, colleagues, Twitter followers, Facebook friends, and LinkedIn connections, asking them each to contribute one tip to be included in this book. Within hours, practical project management tips started coming in. I received tips from project managers in Canada, the United States, South Africa, Poland, the United Kingdom, Argentina, the Cayman Islands, Australia, Brazil, India and other countries. In about eight months, I was able to compile 64 tips-76 tips short of my target. Along the same timeline, I have been writing project management tips of 140 words or less on my blog. Between the 64 tips that I received and my own tips, I had more than enough to put together this book. (My tips are those that are unsigned, the ones that appear at the end of the book.) I could have finished the book then, but I was too busy at work. It was four months later when I found the time to finalize the book.
