Photographing models running completely and utterly naked (this is a consistent theme throughout the series) through the sands of the Sahara Desert, his dreamy photographs capture the very essence of inhibition, nature and freedom. Being Jim's debuting project as a photographer (before he worked in the snowboarding industry before boldly quitting to pursue his life long ambition to be a photographer) Bedu demonstrates a clear step away from the colour dominated images of both Winter's Children and Color'd and thus his progression and potential as a photographer.  BEDU was shot in the Little Sahara Desert, Utah with the following models: Celine Boucher, Spencer David, Chris Van Dine, Alex Graves, Jenny Hong, Vlada Kleynburg, Corigan Kushma, and Peter Sutherland.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49752400757009,"sku":"NGR9783942547505","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3942547503.jpg?v=1751222266"},{"product_id":"jim-mangan-the-crick-book-jim-mangan-9781936611225","title":"Jim Mangan: The Crick","description":"In the crumbling community of a fundamentalist Mormon sect, the boys who remained behind reinvent themselves as modern-day cowboys  American photographer Jim Mangan began The Crick as a photographic survey of the unorthodox architecture of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) houses in the Utah-Arizona border town of Short Creek. He soon found that the bigger story lay in a group of teenage boys navigating their disintegrating community, fractured after leader Warren Jeffs was imprisoned in 2011. These subjects were children at the time of the fallout, who remained with their families in Short Creek as others elected to leave the town altogether. The Crick is a meditation on religious succession, patriarchal systems, zealotry and fraternity in the life built by these young men. Mangan’s pictures transport the reader into an alternate reality of the boys’ making: where they explore the rugged terrain of southern Utah, northern Arizona and southern Nevada on horseback, emulating old-time explorers of the Western frontier. His “ecological and sociological approach” to this series, spanning five years, depicts the playfulness of youth against the capricious landscape of the American West. In both their real and imaginary worlds, these subjects have gained a knowledge of and closeness to nature that has largely been lost in the conventions of modern life. The collection of photographs is accompanied by an essay by author Judith Freeman and a text by apostatized former FLDS member and artist Roman Bateman. Jim Mangan (born 1973) is a photographer and filmmaker best known for his images of the American West. His work has been exhibited at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, the Kunst im Tunnel in Düsseldorf and the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2015, his project Blast was shown at the Sundance Film Festival.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49753248137489,"sku":"NGR9781936611225","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51053298319633,"sku":"NIN9781936611225","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52141739475217,"sku":"NLS9781936611225","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53402519240977,"sku":"CIN1936611228VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1936611228.jpg?v=1751435732"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-jim-mangan.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
