Well documented and articulate, this manual is appropriate for everyone from students of psychotherapy to experienced clinicians seeking to refine their practice. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Personality Disorders: A Clinical Handbook gathers in one place the psychodynamic psychotherapy thinking on each of the Axis II personality disorders. This includes the work of 22 contributing writers in addition to the three primary authors, John F. Clarkin, Ph.D., Peter Fonagy, Ph.D., and Glen O. Gabbard, M.D. The material presented here is available elsewhere but, until now, not all in one place. The focus of the book is the psychodynamic conceptualization, assessment, and treatment of the personality disorders as currently described in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR). Included are 16 chapters in three sections: Defining Personality Pathology, Treatment Approaches, and Research for Future Directions. The background of models of personality and its pathology comprises Section I. Section II contains chapters on the treatment of specific personality disorder constellations. These treatment chapters provide information on the relevant empirical research, patient phenomenology and psychodynamics, treatment strategies, and techniques, woven together with clinical illustrations and vignettes. Section III includes a summary of the existing treatment outcome research and a glimpse of the diagnostic procedures in the near future. Each of the chapter authors has had extensive clinical, and sometimes research, experience with the assessment and treatment of one of the personality disorders described. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Personality Disorders: A Clinical Handbook is, as titled, a practical handbook and guide to clinicians with real-world applications. Every patient a clinician treats has personality issues, if not a personality disorder. This book provides strategies and techniques for addressing personality issues; DSM-IV-TR is proceeding to DSM-V. This collection of papers provides up-to-date information on how the personality disorders will be handled in the upcoming DSM-V; The authors provide summaries of key concepts and suggested readings of particular value to residents and students in other disciplines The authors suggest that new research and reviews indicate, to the surprise of many, that psychodynamic treatments are effective for these personality disorders, and its impact is as great as, that of cognitive-behavioral treatments.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49552253485329,"sku":"GOR003968345","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49732248142097,"sku":"NGR9781585623556","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ LIKE_NEW \/ SBYB","offer_id":50392426578193,"sku":"CIN1585623555LN","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51144036876561,"sku":"GOR014185060","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52151825334545,"sku":"NLS9781585623556","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53375526142225,"sku":"CIN1585623555VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1585623555.jpg?v=1752317545"},{"product_id":"psychotherapy-for-borderline-personality-book-john-f-clarkin-9781585622108","title":"Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality","description":"For therapists treating patients with borderline personality organization, transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP) has proven to be a remarkably successful approach that effectively targets the pathology of character. The product of more than 25 years of development, it draws on advances in object relations theory and attachment theory with the goal of not merely treating symptoms but changing the patient's underlying personality and quality of life. Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality describes principles of intervention and contains a wealth of practical guidelines on how to apply TFP to individual patients on a session-by-session basis. This groundbreaking treatment manual focuses on the analysis of the transference, showing how to help patients relax their defenses and become active participants in the therapeutic process. The authors describe techniques for seeing past the wall of behavioral and cognitive dissonance typically thrown up by the borderline patient, identifying a patient's conflicting self-conceptions and object representations, and immersing oneself in the turbulent currents of the borderline narrative stream while maintaining the clinical distance required to be a constructive force in patients' lives. -For each phase of treatment-assessment, early treatment, midphase, advanced phase, and termination-the authors describe the tasks of the therapist and the sequence of responses by the patients -Session descriptions are included to illustrate treatment in progress -A separate chapter addresses specific issues in treatment, including crisis management for suicide threats and aggressive behavior -Recognizing that patients with BPO start treatment at different points of their pathology, the authors provide an expansive description of the treatment course with high-level and low-level BPO patients, making the book relevant to a wide range of clinical situations This volume also reflects not only the authors' ongoing experience with TFP in other clinical sites, showing how it can be used in diverse cultural settings, but also research that helps precisely identify the course and type of changes resulting from TFP. Brimming with insights garnered from years of successful clinical application, Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality will sharpen the skills of those already familiar with TFP and introduce others to a trailblazing approach to therapy.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49917760504081,"sku":"CIN1585622109G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51732296007953,"sku":"CIN1585622109VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1585622109.jpg?v=1750991366"},{"product_id":"psychotherapy-for-borderline-personality-book-john-f-clarkin-9780471170426","title":"Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality","description":"Based on the work of the research team, this manual offers techniques and strategies for treating patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) using Transference-Focused Psychotherapy.
