Drawing on the traditions of poetics, rhetoric and textual commentary, the study concentrates on Churchill’s writing and is sensitive to texts and contexts and to the archive. Questions of language, literature, translation and creative writing are addressed as befitting an author who is a poet, literary scholar and historian. The book begins with metaphor, which Aristotle thought, in Poetics, was the key gift of the poet, and discusses it in theory and practice; it moves from the identity of metaphor to identity in translation and culture; it examines poetry in a comparative and world context; it looks at image and text; it explores literature and culture in the Cold War; it explores the role of the poet and scholar in translating poetry East and West; it places creative writing in theory and practice in context East and West; it concludes by summing up and suggesting implications of creation in language, translating and interpreting, and its expression in literature, especially in poetry.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51148857409809,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51148860162321,"sku":"NIN9781032689272","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52587594613009,"sku":"NLS9781032689272","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032689277.jpg?v=1751333863"},{"product_id":"language-in-colonization-renaissance-poetry-and-shakespeare-book-jonathan-locke-hart-9781032733586","title":"Language in Colonization, Renaissance Poetry and Shakespeare","description":"Language is the central concern of this book. Colonization, poetry and Shakespeare – and the Renaissance itself – provide the examples. I concentrate on text in context, close reading, interpretation, interpoetics and translation with particular instances and works, examining matters of interpoetics in Renaissance poetry and prose, including epic, and the Hugo translation of Shakespeare in France and trying to bring together analysis that shows how important language is in the age of European expansion and in the Renaissance. I provide close analysis of aspects of colonization, front matter (paratext) in poetry and prose, and Shakespeare that deserve more attention. The book breaks away from traditional western-centric analysis to present a universal Shakespeare, exposing readers to the relevance and significance of Shakespeare within their local contexts and cultures. This text aims to present a global Shakespeare, utilizing a dual perspective or dialectical presentation, mainly centred on questions of (1) how Shakespeare can be viewed as both an English writer and a world writer; (2) how language operates across genres and kinds of discourse; and (3) how Shakespeare helps to articulate a poetics of both texts (literature) and contexts (cultures). I concentrate on text in context, close reading, interpretation, interpoetics and translation with particular instances and works, examining matters of interpoetics in Renaissance poetry and prose, including epic, and the Hugo translation of Shakespeare in France and trying to bring together analysis that shows how important language is in the age of European expansion and in the Renaissance. I provide close analysis of aspects of colonization, front matter (paratext) in poetry and prose, and Shakespeare that deserve more attention. The main themes and objectives of this book are an exploration of language in European colonial texts of the “New World,” paratexts or front matter, Renaissance poetry and Shakespeare through close reading, including interpoetics (liminality), translation and key words.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53371492565265,"sku":"NGR9781032733593","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53582422769937,"sku":"NLS9781032733593","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781032733593.jpg?v=1776505847"},{"product_id":"burning-lake-book-jonathan-locke-hart-9789888228669","title":"The Burning Lake","description":"Jonathan Locke Hart explores in a contemporary context the divine and human comedy, taking his inspiration from Dante, but also making and questioning poetry in a world where light shines on abandoned tires, industrial\/ Junk devoid of allegory and in a world that is and is not real. This poetry is an exploration of mind, body and soul in an industrial and technological world vastly changed from the tremendous mythological worlds constructed by great poets such as Dante and Shakespeare. The poem moves away from this sullen industrial waste and the fires of existential hell through the in-between and purgatorial state to one of hope and light. All this is within and without the contemporary world. Hart turns to a rarer, more public form of address, one that sees the world feelingly in the nerves and heart while grasping it with the mind, assessing it and finally judging it. This is an exercise in moral and political speech. Few poets - though they include Eliot, Auden, Lowell, Jorie Graham and A. R. Ammons - venture with such authority to speak for the world. Questions of language, literature, translation and creative writing are addressed as befitting an author who is a poet, literary scholar and historian. The book begins with metaphor, which Aristotle thought, in Poetics, was the key gift of the poet, and discusses it in theory and practice; it moves from the identity of metaphor to identity in translation and culture; it examines poetry in a comparative and world context; it looks at image and text; it explores literature and culture in the Cold War; it explores the role of the poet and scholar in translating poetry East and West; it places creative writing in theory and practice in context East and West; it concludes by summing up and suggesting implications of creation in language, translating and interpreting, and its expression in literature, especially in poetry.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53582424408337,"sku":"NLS9781032729312","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781032729312.jpg?v=1779406011"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-jonathan-locke-hart.oembed?page=2","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
