Presented (but not awarded) to the Real Academia Española in 1791, this work offers a passionate argument against perceived abuses and corruptions of the Spanish language. Vargas Ponce, a noted Spanish writer and intellectual, provides insights into the contemporary concerns about linguistic purity and the evolving standards of Castilian Spanish. This edition offers readers a valuable resource for understanding the history of linguistic thought and the enduring quest to define and preserve language.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This volume includes not only the original declamation, which critiques perceived abuses corrupting the Spanish language, but also a dissertation on the Spanish language and a dialogue explaining the purpose of the work. Vargas Ponce's work offers insights into 18th-century linguistic perspectives and the debates surrounding language purity and reform in Spain. It remains relevant to students and scholars interested in the history of linguistics, the evolution of the Spanish language, and the cultural and intellectual context of the late Enlightenment.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
