Teacher educators are both teachers and researchers, a hybrid position which might be challenging to fulfil.  Teacher education has attracted much research over the years. It has also been subject to national and international debates about its goals and core features as well as issues of quality and effectiveness. More recently, attention has been given to the work, identity and professional development of teacher educators. The various chapters in the book address the topic of teacher educators as teachers and researchers in diverse countries and contexts, namely Australia, Belgium, England, Ireland, Israel, Portugal, Norway and the USA. Collectively, the authors examine the work of teacher educators considering their core mission, their professional development opportunities and the demands and needs of their working contexts.  The chapters in this book were originally published in a special issue of the European Journal of Teacher Education.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50698084090129,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50698086121745,"sku":"NGR9780367519629","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52410048479505,"sku":"NLS9780367519629","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367519623.jpg?v=1750877972"},{"product_id":"teacher-educators-as-teachers-and-as-researchers-book-kari-smith-9780367519568","title":"Teacher Educators as Teachers and as Researchers","description":"This book presents recent international research on how teacher educators, institutions and policy makers perceive, act on and experience the dual responsibility that teacher educators are required to develop. In this book, ten newly qualified teachers from five countries, Australia, England, Finland, Israel and Norway, tell their stories as they came through in individual interviews. The narratives, written by the authors, were all approved by the teachers as 'their' stories. What can we learn from listening to the narratives? What can we bring to decision-makers about how to support new teachers? Do new teachers face similar challenges around the world, or do experiences depend on their respective contexts? There are more similarities than differences.    Relevant research literature is used in discussing the cases. Much of the literature on novice teachers focuses on difficulties, and the stories presented in this book confirm that the first year is tough. However, the resilience, motivation and enthusiasm reflected in the stories provide reasons for optimism as regards teachers’ satisfaction with their career choice.    A major reason for deciding to stay in the profession is in the relations they created with the students. Satisfaction or stress related to the curriculum or achievements in their respective teaching subjects was not mentioned. The lessons learned from the ten novice teachers are useful when discussing the teaching profession and, not least, the induction phase of a teaching career.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52680381923601,"sku":"NLS9789004413085","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789004413085.jpg?v=1768562789"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-kari-smith.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
