It provides students with the knowledge and understanding of how the humanities engage in broader social, political, economic, and environmental dialogue, offering a global perspective that crosses national and continental borders. The book takes students through the UN SDGs from a theoretical perspective through to practical applications, first through specific global humanities examples and then through students’ own final projects and reflections. Centered around three major themes of planet, people, and prosperity, the textbook encourages students to explore and apply the Goals using a place-based, culturally rooted approach while simultaneously acknowledging and understanding their global importance. The text’s examples range from documentary and feature film to photography and literature, including Wang Jiuliang’s Plastic China, Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn’s Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, Barbara Dombrowski’s Tropic Ice: Dialog Between Places Affected by Climate Change, and Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger, among others. Providing diverse geographic and cultural perspectives, the works take readers to Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Greenland, Haiti, India, Japan, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, and the United States. This broad textbook can be used by students and instructors at undergraduate and postgraduate levels from any subject background, particularly, but not exclusively, those in the humanities. With added discussion questions, research assignments, writing prompts, and creative project ideas, students will gain a nuanced understanding of the interconnectivity between social, cultural, ethical, political, economic, and environmental factors. Divided into three sections—geography, genius, and gender—the introduction establishes the origins of the flâneur and flâneuse in early foundational texts and explores later works that reimagine flânerie in terms of these same three themes. The volume’s contributors provide new and global perspectives on urban walking practices through their treatment of a variety of genres (literature, film, journalism, autobiography, epistolary correspondence, photography, fashion, music, digital media) and regions (Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East). This volume theorizes well-known urban characters like the idler, lounger, dandy, badaud, promeneuse, shopper, collector, and detective and also proposes new iterations of the flâneur\/flâneuse as fashion model, gaucho, cruiser, musician, vampire, postcolonial activist, video game avatar and gamer.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51306099638545,"sku":"NIN9781032140469","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52590939930897,"sku":"NLS9781032140469","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032140461.jpg?v=1751366779"},{"product_id":"teaching-literature-in-the-world-language-classroom-book-kelly-comfort-9781032941905","title":"Teaching Literature in the World Language Classroom","description":"Teaching Literature in the World Language Classroom presents a five-stage methodology for teaching literature in language curriculum that repurposes Blooms original and revised taxonomy to promote the language acquisition process and spark other types of learning.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51598020313361,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51598020411665,"sku":"NGR9781032941905","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52666718912785,"sku":"NLS9781032941905","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52745789112593,"sku":"NIN9781032941905","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032941901.jpg?v=1751142924"},{"product_id":"teaching-literature-in-the-world-language-classroom-book-kelly-comfort-9781032942476","title":"Teaching Literature in the World Language Classroom","description":"Teaching Literature in the World Language Classroom presents a five-stage methodology for teaching literature in language curriculum that repurposes Bloom’s original and revised taxonomy to promote the language acquisition process and spark other types of learning. The first step of text selection, preparation, and initiation asks students to: recognize familiar words, structures, and concepts; contextualize the reading; and remember the main details of the text. The second stage of beginning literary analysis gets target-language learners to describe, identify, and understand the basic elements of plot, character, setting, and narration. The third phase of intermediate literary analysis prompts students to interpret, analyze, and examine major themes, key passages, and the overall commentary. The fourth step of advanced literary analysis teaches students to synthesize multiple and conflicting interpretations, compare assigned texts across units or themes, and evaluate works through essay writing. The fifth stage of reflective and creative engagement challenges students to relate the assigned texts to themselves through personal and intercultural reflection, create new artistic works, and produce unique texts in the target language. The concluding chapter showcases all five stages of the methodology by applying them to a sample text, thereby inviting world language educators to assess the potential usefulness of Comfort and Scharf’s approach to their own language courses. This is an ideal resource for world language educators teaching literature as well as undergraduate and graduate education students focusing on target-language literature instruction and its role in the language acquisition process.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51598025457937,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51598025621777,"sku":"NGR9781032942476","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52679464452369,"sku":"NLS9781032942476","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032942479.jpg?v=1750709559"},{"product_id":"art-and-life-in-aestheticism-book-kelly-comfort-9780230551169","title":"Art and Life in Aestheticism","description":"Art for art's sake addresses the relationship between art and life.
