But the basic construction of the human body - the skeleton, the organs of the chest and abdomen, the nervous system, the head and neck with its sensory systems and anatomy for breathing and swallowing - is vital for anyone studying medicine, biology, and health studies. In this Very Short Introduction Leslie Klenerman provides a clear, concise, and accessible introduction to the structure, function, and main systems of the human body, including a number of clear and simple illustrations to explain the key areas. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49527439589649,"sku":"GOR007339303","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49727371772177,"sku":"NGR9780198707370","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50450016960785,"sku":"GOR010977423","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51000006705425,"sku":"NIN9780198707370","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51845985009937,"sku":"CIN0198707371G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52108948275473,"sku":"GOR009378369","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52475394752785,"sku":"NLS9780198707370","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52988226502929,"sku":"CIN0198707371VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0198707371.jpg?v=1751070002"},{"product_id":"physical-signs-in-orthopaedics-book-leslie-klenerman-9780727908452","title":"Physical Signs in Orthopaedics","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49584823271697,"sku":"GOR005077949","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0727908456.jpg?v=1750913240"},{"product_id":"evolution-of-orthopaedic-surgery-book-leslie-klenerman-9781853154690","title":"The Evolution of Orthopaedic Surgery","description":"This volume is an exploration of the field of orthopaedic surgery, briefly describing its origins in antiquity, illuminating the many changes and developments that took place in the 20th century and examining the trends towards fragmentation and specialization. It also postulates what orthopaedics will be like in 2050. The book covers a wide range of areas including hip and knee replacement, arthroscopy and arthroscopic surgery, management of fractures, biomechanics, biomaterials and imaging.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49605968134417,"sku":"GOR013585313","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1853154695.jpg?v=1751155559"},{"product_id":"human-foot-book-leslie-klenerman-9781852339258","title":"The Human Foot","description":"The appendages at the end of our forelimbs tend to attract the evolutionary and clinical limelight, but our feet are as important as our hands for our survival and success as a species. We tend to take them for granted, yet the many millions of modern humans who run either competitively or for recreation, or who play sports such as soccer, tennis, and badminton, or who ride, or dance, or swim, or climb, or who stand and walk as part of their work, all depend on their feet. We submit them to unreasonable loads, and expect them to survive our pounding them on hard pavements. We also add insult to injury by squeezing them into fashionable but uncomfortable footwear which does not conform to the shape of the foot. All this means that many professionals make their living caring for our feet. Worldwide many hundreds of thousands of professional people spend most of their working life looking after the foot. They include orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, diabetologists, orthotists and prosthetists, physical therapists, and podiatrists of whom there are at least 15,000 in the United States of America alone. In the English language there are two classic books about the foot, both by anatomists. In 1935 the American anatomist Dudley Morton wrote the first e- tion of The Human Foot, and in Great Britain Frederick Wood Jones' seminal book, Structure and Function as Seen in the Foot, was published in 1944.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49762914894097,"sku":"GOR013778949","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49762914959633,"sku":"GOR013778950","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52480725844241,"sku":"NLS9781852339258","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52755835027729,"sku":"NIN9781852339258","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/185233925X.jpg?v=1750996096"},{"product_id":"foot-and-its-disorders-book-leslie-klenerman-9780632007110","title":"Foot and Its Disorders","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50468945527057,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50468947460369,"sku":"GOR005663476","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0632007117.jpg?v=1751073932"},{"product_id":"tourniquet-manual-principles-and-practice-book-leslie-klenerman-9781447139201","title":"The Tourniquet Manual - Principles and Practice","description":"Why write a book on the tourniquet? The tourniquet is used routinely in op- ating theatres throughout the world, but as far as I know there is no single book that surveys the considerable literature that has accumulated. If used sensibly, the tourniquet is a safe instrument. Most of the few complications seen with its use are preventable. However, when something untoward happens, the tour- quet suddenly becomes an interesting subject, particularly if there is the likelihood of medicolegal consequences. This book summarises the scientific background of the tourniquet and describes a safe physiological approach to preventing complications. Examples of medicolegal problems are included. Considerable progress had been made since Lister first excised a tuberculous wrist joint in a bloodless field. Many researchers have studied the effects of ischaemia and pressure on nerves and muscles. Tourniquets have entered the age of computers and are now much more sophisticated. Despite this, there is still much dogma surrounding the tourniquet in operating theatres and in textbooks. This book is aimed at orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetists and op- ating-theatre staff. I hope that this short text will stimulate a more widespread interest in the tour- quet and improve safe practice.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51157153087761,"sku":"NGR9781447139201","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52143753298193,"sku":"NLS9781447139201","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1447139208.jpg?v=1750891708"},{"product_id":"tourniquet-manual-principles-and-practice-book-leslie-klenerman-9781852337063","title":"The Tourniquet Manual Principles and Practice","description":"Why write a book on the tourniquet?
