Lippard. Describing tchotchkes, photographs, and art in her unpretentious New Mexico home, the author informally narrates key events and relationships in her 86-year-long, highly creative life, starting with her family roots and her childhood in New York, Louisiana, Virginia, and Maine. Through anecdotal and often humorous memories, we follow the author through her youth, adulthood, relationships, and her thirty-five years in New York City, where she organized dozens of exhibitions, authored hundreds of articles, and co-founded Heresies: A Feminist Journal of Art and Politics, the artist's-book center Printed Matter, and activist artists group PAD\/D. Lippard touches on the roles she played in Conceptual Art and the Feminist Art movement in the 1960s through the 1980s. Her accounts of more recent years focus on the art, landscape, culture, and communities of the American Southwest, where she moved in the early 1990s. An analysis of women as witnesses adds another dimension to what is known about the everyday but often compelling presence of women in New Zealand's colonial courts. In 1840 British law was formally implemented in Aotearoa\/New Zealand. The law's institutional structures would soon follow. In 1841 the Supreme Court was established followed by the Resident Magistrate Courts in 1846. The courts were a part of formal British governance. Yet her painting and sculpture have proved influential far beyond their initial impact on the art world of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Lucy Lippards Eva Hesse combines biography and criticism, formal analysis and psychological readings, to present a complete portrait of the life and work of this complex and compelling artist. } As Lippard points out, Hesses use of obsessive repetition in her works served to increase and exaggerate the absurdity she saw in her life. In many ways, her works were psychic models, as Robert Smithson has said, of a very interior person. In pioneering the use of soft materials, her sculptures betrayed her awareness of the manner in which her experience as a woman altered her art and career. Although she died before feminism affected the art world to any great extent, her major works have since become talismans for succeeding  generations of women artists. Eva Hesse was designed by Hesses friends and colleagues Sol LeWitt and Pat Stier; her sculptures, drawings,  and paintings are reproduced and discussed; and the text includes numerous quotations from her diaries. Rich with illustrations of artworks in many different media, and filled with incisive quotes and unsettling reports, it is more than a book about art; it is a complex meditation on the relationships of people to their cultures. Lucy R. Lippard, one of our most original and insightful writers on art, challenges conventional approaches and explores the role of images in a changing society. Among her subjects are the uncertainty of exile; the confusion of identity in attempts to climb out of the melting pot; and art that speaks for itself, reversing stereotypes and reclaiming history and memory. The New Press edition features a new introduction by Lippard that reconsiders the issues first presented in Mixed Blessings  when it appeared in 1990 and evaluates the state of multicultural art today.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50761116811537,"sku":"CIN1565845730G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50914138390801,"sku":"CIN1565845730VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51038128931089,"sku":"NIN9781565845732","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52679109542161,"sku":"NLS9781565845732","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1565845730.jpg?v=1774001034"},{"product_id":"hayward-annual-78-catalogue-of-an-exhibition-held-at-the-hayward-gallery-london-book-lucy-r-lippard-9780728701786","title":"Hayward annual '78: [catalogue of an exhibition held at the] Hayward Gallery, London, 23 August-8 October 1978","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50891954454801,"sku":"GOR004527838","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0728701782.jpg?v=1751295184"},{"product_id":"eva-hesse-book-lucy-r-lippard-9780814749715","title":"Eva Hesse","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51086017397009,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51086018347281,"sku":"GOR005838048","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0814749712.jpg?v=1750915186"},{"product_id":"on-the-beaten-track-book-lucy-r-lippard-9781565844544","title":"On the Beaten Track","description":"In this “excellent” (The Baltimore Sun) book, Lucy R. Integrated into a comprehensive monograph are 250 images of her acclaimed series from glass, ceramic, bronze, and rusted iron-draped female figures to timely explorations in climatology and biomimetics.  In this definitive look at a vital contemporary artist, essays by award-winning authors frame LaMonte s work in the context of female identity, music, art history, and science, placing her alongside other contemporary sculptors who have adopted the human body as an vehicle for expressing the human condition.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51746661368081,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51746663203089,"sku":"CIN0847867676G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53247549702417,"sku":"CIN0847867676VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780847867677.jpg?v=1750979918"},{"product_id":"surrealists-on-art-book-lucy-r-lippard-9780138780906","title":"Surrealists on Art","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51835872117009,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51835872149777,"sku":"GOR014419148","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52900759437585,"sku":"GOR014655303","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780138780906.jpg?v=1753105660"},{"product_id":"get-the-message-book-lucy-r-lippard-9780525480372","title":"Get the Message?","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53239956111633,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53239957192977,"sku":"GOR004861794","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780525480372.jpg?v=1773251126"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-lucy-r-lippard.oembed?page=3","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
