Within this historical milieu, the Temple provides a major christological symbol for the Johannine community. The Temple, as the place of God's dwelling, reveals both the identity and the mission of Jesus. Having shown how the Temple symbolism applies to Jesus, God Dwells with Us discusses how the Temple symbolism in the Fourth Gospel also applies to the Christian community. Thus in the absence of the historical Jesus, Christians still have access to a God who dwells in the midst of the community.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50434024767761,"sku":"GOR004936298","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51008217317649,"sku":"NIN9780814659526","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51606051324177,"sku":"CIN0814659527VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51694269038865,"sku":"CIN0814659527G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52350110761233,"sku":"NLS9780814659526","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0814659527.jpg?v=1750819198"},{"product_id":"dwelling-in-the-household-of-god-book-mary-l-coloe-pbvm-9780814659885","title":"Dwelling in the Household of God","description":"In her remarkable first book, God Dwells With Us: Temple Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel, Mary L. Coloe, P.B.V.M., explored the profound insight of John's Gospel expressed in Jesus ' invitation to his disciples: Make your home in me, as I make mine in you (John 15:4). For the gospel's author and audience, the dwelling of God among humans was, above al, the Jerusalem Temple. The gospel traces how 'after the trauma of the destruction of the Temple 'the Johannine community came to expand and deepen its knowledge of God's dwelling among humans, finding it now in the person of Jesus and in the community of believers.  Dwelling in the Household of God moves us from seeing God's dwelling place as the Temple to seeing God's dwelling place within the community of believers. The starting point now is an image in John 14:2: my Father's house, which is given its Old Testament meaning of my father's household. Our awareness thus moves, like that of the first Christians, from understanding My father's house as the Temple (John 2:16) to My Father's Household as a community of believers drawn into Jesus ' own divine filiation. Coloe invites us to re-read the gospel from the post-Easter perspective of those who have become brothers and sisters of Jesus and living Temples of God's presence. What emerges is nothing less than a profound mysticism of the mutual indwelling of God and believers.  Mary Coloe, PBVM, DTh, holds a joint teaching position at the Australian Catholic University and St Paul's Seminary, Brisbane. Her publications include numerous articles and God Dwells With Us: Temple Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel (Liturgical Press, 2001).","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50434024800529,"sku":"GOR013330387","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":50984550859025,"sku":"NIN9780814659885","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52336998416657,"sku":"NLS9780814659885","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0814659888.jpg?v=1750915136"},{"product_id":"creation-is-groaning-book-mary-l-coloe-pbvm-9780814680650","title":"Creation Is Groaning","description":"Biblical and Theological Perspectives","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50827086102801,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50827087970577,"sku":"CIN0814680658G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0814680658.jpg?v=1750786318"},{"product_id":"john-qumran-and-the-dead-sea-scrolls-book-mary-l-coloe-9781589835467","title":"John, Qumran, and the Dead Sea Scrolls","description":"The Dead Sea Scrolls reveal a Palestinian form of Second Temple Judaism in which the seeds of Johannine Christianity may have first sprouted. Although many texts from the Judean Desert are now widely available, the Scrolls have had little part in discussions of the Johannine literature over the past several decades. The essays in this book, ranging from focused studies of key passages in the Fourth Gospel to its broader social world, consider the past and potential impact of the Scrolls on Johannine studies in the context of a growing interest in the historical roots of the Johannine tradition and the origins and nature of the Johannine community and its relationship to mainstream Judaism. Future scholarship will be interested in connections between the Gospel of John and the Scrolls and also in Qumran Judaism and Johannine Christianity as parallel religious movements.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51038133879057,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51038136795409,"sku":"NIN9781589835467","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52127007375633,"sku":"NLS9781589835467","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52625563812113,"sku":"CIN1589835468G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53114228211985,"sku":"CIN1589835468VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1589835468.jpg?v=1751150753"},{"product_id":"friendly-guide-to-john-s-gospel-book-mary-l-coloe-9781921946325","title":"Friendly Guide to John's Gospel","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51059273335057,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51059276022033,"sku":"NIN9781921946325","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52145194074385,"sku":"NLS9781921946325","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1921946326.jpg?v=1750965021"},{"product_id":"john-11-21-book-mary-l-coloe-pbvm-9780814688144","title":"John 11-21","description":"Teaching and researching the Gospel of John for thirty years has led author Mary L. Coloe to an awareness of the importance of the wisdom literature to make sense of Johannine theology, language, and symbolism: in the prologue, with Nicodemus, in the Bread of Life discourse, with Mary and Lazarus, and in the culminating “Hour.” She also shows how the late Second Temple theology expressed in the books of Sirach and Wisdom, considered deuterocanonical and omitted from some Bible editions, are essential intertexts. Only the book of Wisdom speaks of “the reign of God” (Wis 10:10), “eternity life” (Wis 5:15), and the ambrosia maintaining angelic life (Wis 19:21)—all concepts found in John’s Gospel. They carry with them childhood memories that may be inaccurate, according to the text, and miss the deep theological purpose of these two narratives. While writing about the birth of a child, Matthew and Luke have clearly in their minds the adult Jesus - if only we could see him. It is a little like approaching an iceberg without realising that most of the iceberg is below the surface. If we only read the surface story of the nativity, we fail to understand the rich introductions to the person and ministry of the adult Jesus. This book will help you to dive beneath the surface of the text and come to a deeper faith appreciation of both Gospels' introduction to Jesus' ministry.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52401784979729,"sku":"NLS9781925073379","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52756864565521,"sku":"NIN9781925073379","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781925073379.jpg?v=1758755813"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-mary-l-coloe.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
