The villa is an obvious example of such a shelter. It has re-emerged as an object of desire, because of the urge to escape the boundaries of our own four walls. Throughout history this typology has been rethought and reinvented by architectural greats who sought to break radically with the tradition of their times. But what does it mean to us to design a villa during a period of isolation and lockdown?   The answer is not clear. The villa has always been both a dream home for clients and a means of expression for architects. It combines architecture’s most primitive function – to create a liveable shelter – with an architect’s endeavour to manifest their ideology in a single building.   During an online design studio held at the Dessau School of Architecture, students from ten countries discussed the identities of the villa and their cultural context. The design of private shelters helped to overcome the paralysis of public life. This publication showcases some of the next generation’s most promising ideas. Moreover, it aims to explore new methods for online teaching, which could serve as a reference for institutions in a post-COVID world.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49738257596689,"sku":"NGR9783869227801","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/386922780X.jpg?v=1751318087"},{"product_id":"worldzoo-andaquarium-architecture-book-natascha-meuser-9783869224640","title":"WorldZoo andAquarium Architecture","description":"World Zoo and Aquarium Architecture Vol. 1 provides an overview of current trends in planning zoos and aquariums. Nevertheless, in this compendium one has to begin with reference to the fact that the acquisition of drawing skills is by no means a minor field of study for architects. Design methodology, also referred to as methodology of space and the representation of the human body, plays an important role - once more - in the present-day field of architectural activity. This book explores options for illustration, as well as contemporary practice with architectural presentation. It deals with the following topics:  * The history and theory of architectural drawing, covering a wide spectrum of issues in terms of art and architectural history. Examples are provided by two design collections.  * Ten architects present their architectural concepts based on a selection of drawing and presentation techniques.  * Ten exercises for freehand drawing, demonstrating that spatial vision and the ability to think in three-dimensional terms can be learnt by anyone. * Demonstrative examples and practical exercises which illustrate the technical drawing and fundamental principles of perspective.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50263999643921,"sku":"CIN3869224142G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3869224142.jpg?v=1751032350"},{"product_id":"east-polynesia-book-natascha-meuser-9783869228464","title":"East Polynesia","description":"This Architectural and Cultural Guide East Polynesia challenges the romanticised visions of the South Pacific by critically examining the built environment through the lens of architecture, history, and cultural resilience. Across over 400 richly illustrated pages, it traces how traditional knowledge systems, ecological adaptation, and colonial ruptures have shaped architectural practices from the Cook Islands via French Polynesia and Pitcairn to Rapa Nui in Chilean Polynesia. With contributions from local experts, architects, geologists, and historians, the guide foregrounds the complex entanglements of place, power, and memory. Rather than offering a conventional typological catalogue, it maps networks of meaning: from sacred stone platforms (marae) and climate-responsive vernacular dwellings to the infrastructural legacies of nuclear testing and space-age geopolitics. The Pacific is not portrayed as a void but as a stage of cultural innovation and architectural intelligence.   This publication is a carefully curated, research-based exploration of a region where architecture emerges not as monumentality, but as method: flexible, bioclimatic, and socially coded. Aimed at critically minded travellers, scholars, and architects, this volume invites readers to reconsider what architecture can mean in contexts defined not by permanence, but by rhythm, movement, and relational space.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52901458805009,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52901459755281,"sku":"NGR9783869228464","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783869228464.jpg?v=1765558598"},{"product_id":"zoo-buildings-construction-and-design-manual-book-natascha-meuser-9783869226804","title":"Zoo Buildings. Construction and Design Manual","description":"This is the first ever manual to systemati-cally delve into the zoo as an architectur-al typology. The author Natascha Meuser examines five generations of zoological structures in order to show that the archi-tecture of zoos has always incorporated social values, fostering the coexistence of humans and animals, ever since the opening of the first scientifically run zoo. The manual presents documentation of 30 historical, pioneering zoo buildings that set new standards both functional-ly and aesthetically. Moreover, it offers an in-depth analysis of 50 internation-al zoos that have been built in the last 20 years. It includes floor plans to scale, elevations, and sections as well as large photos that offer deep insights that have never been available before. The author also presents ten design parameters that can serve as guidelines for the planning of a zoological structure.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53548223136017,"sku":"CIN3869226803G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783869226804.jpg?v=1778610611"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-natascha-meuser.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
