Lincoln Cathedral's breathtaking stained glass is one reason many believe this to be the finest Gothic cathedral in the British Isles. Much of its medieval glass has been lost, but what remains is the most important collection of English early thirteenth-century glass after Canterbury Cathedral. The north transept Dean's Eye is outstanding as an early and very large rose window of c. 1220. The Victorian glazing programmes feature the leading firms of the day, as well as the gifted amateurs Augustus and Frederick Sutton, who made the great west window, depicting Old Testament Kings and Prophets in the style and colours of medieval glass. The best examples of twentieth-century glass are four striking Archangel windows by Harry Stammers. Given the existence of so many treasures, it is surprising that Lincoln's stained glass is hardly known. Until now there has been no book published on the subject as a whole. 'The Stained Glass of Lincoln Cathedral' celebrates the range and quality of Lincoln's glass, combining new scholarly perspectives with sumptuous illustrations","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49532898607377,"sku":"GOR007013844","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49538321121553,"sku":"GOR010225546","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50135788880145,"sku":"GOR013695979","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1857597745.jpg?v=1751448415"},{"product_id":"cambridge-history-of-the-book-in-britain-volume-2-11001400-book-nigel-j-morgan-9781107636767","title":"The Cambridge History of the Book in Britain: Volume 2, 11001400","description":"This is the first history of the book in Britain from the Norman Conquest until the early fifteenth century. The twenty-six expert contributors to this volume discuss the manuscript book from a variety of angles: as physical object (manufacture, format, writing and decoration); its purpose and readership (books for monasteries, for the Church's liturgy, for elementary and advanced instruction, for courtly entertainment); and as the vehicle for particular types of text (history, sermons, medical treatises, law and administration, music). In all of this, the broader, changing social and cultural context is kept in mind, and so are the various connections with continental Europe. The volume includes a full bibliography and 80 black and white plates.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50175850184977,"sku":"GOR013881513","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51019705286929,"sku":"NIN9781107636767","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52106135961873,"sku":"CIN1107636760VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52405381038353,"sku":"NLS9781107636767","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1107636760.jpg?v=1751111825"},{"product_id":"power-and-politics-at-the-seaside-book-nigel-j-morgan-9780859895712","title":"Power and Politics at the Seaside","description":"The seaside is the twentieth century's pre-eminent global tourism site and this is the first book of its kind to examine political and power relations in modern seaside resort development. As an historical study of seaside tourism in Devon-England's most popular domestic holiday destination-it reveals the complex interplay between ideology, class and power and the consumption of landscape and place. Drawing on rich local, regional and national sources and bringing together approaches from history, sociology, geography and cultural studies, the book addresses the seaside holiday as an historical and sociological phenomenon. It locates seaside tourism within the wider leisure experience and suggests that the seaside manifests and reinforces the wider social, economic and political power relations which shape society.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51708594848017,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51708595011857,"sku":"GOR001995918","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51884462899473,"sku":"GOR010033086","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0859895718.jpg?v=1751363360"},{"product_id":"english-monastic-litanies-of-the-saints-after-1100-book-nigel-j-morgan-9781907497407","title":"English Monastic Litanies of the Saints after 1100","description":"Das Wirbeltier unter ihrem rasierten Nacken wand sich wie die Glieder einer gefangenen Raupe (...)
