Der sächsische Oberberghauptmann von Carlowitz hat im Jahre 1713 in s- nem Werk \"Sylvicultura Oeconomica\" zum ersten Male den Begriff der Nachhaltigkeit verwendet, ohne zu ahnen, dass dieser Begriff 274 Jahre nach dem Erscheinen seines W- kes international in aller Munde sein würde (Peters 1984: 4; 261). Eine nachhaltige For- wirtschaft, so der Oberberghauptmann, beruhe auf dem Grundsatz, dass man nur so viel an Holz einschlagen dürfe wie durch Neupflanzung an Bäumen nachwachsen würde. Die Idee hat die sog. Brundtland-Kommission übernommen.
