The authors examine the process of early animal domestication in the Near East, South Asia, and Europe, focusing on the cultural context of early animal husbandry.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50366248091921,"sku":"CIN0924171960G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0924171960.jpg?v=1751397258"},{"product_id":"european-archaeology-as-anthropology-book-pam-j-crabtree-9781934536896","title":"European Archaeology as Anthropology","description":"Since the days of V. Gordon Childe, the study of the emergence of complex societies has been a central question in anthropological archaeology. However, archaeologists working in the Americanist tradition have drawn most of their models for the emergence of social complexity from research in the Middle East and Latin America. Bernard Wailes was a strong advocate for the importance of later prehistoric and early medieval Europe as an alternative model of sociopolitical evolution and trained generations of American archaeologists now active in European research from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages. Two centuries of excavation and research in Europe have produced one of the richest bodies of archaeological data anywhere in the world. The abundant data show that technological innovations such as metallurgy appeared very early, but urbanism and state formation are comparatively late developments. Key transformative process such as the spread of agriculture did not happen uniformly but rather at different rates in different regions. The essays in this volume celebrate the legacy of Bernard Wailes by highlighting the contribution of the European archaeological record to our understanding of the emergence of social complexity. They provide case studies in how ancient Europe can inform anthropological archaeology. Not only do they illuminate key research topics, they also invite archaeologists working in other parts of the world to consider comparisons to ancient Europe as they construct models for cultural development for their regions. Although there is a substantial corpus of literature on European prehistoric and medieval archaeology, we do not know of a comparable volume that explicitly focuses on the contribution that the study of ancient Europe can make to anthropological archaeology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50423475142929,"sku":"CIN193453689XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52342826434833,"sku":"NLS9781934536896","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/193453689X.jpg?v=1750901168"},{"product_id":"encyclopedia-of-society-and-culture-in-the-medieval-world-book-pam-j-crabtree-9780816069361","title":"Encyclopedia of Society and Culture in the Medieval World","description":"The new four-volume \"\"Encyclopedia of Society and Culture in the Medieval World\"\" provides readers with comprehensive coverage of the medieval world, from the fall of Rome to the European Renaissance, including Western and non-Western cultures and civilizations.Following an introduction that outlines the history of the major centers of civilization, this authoritative set features 71 alphabetical entries that explore specific topics - such as architecture, economy, art, and the military - followed by subsections on Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Islamic World. Much of the early archaeological research on urban origins focused on regions such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Mesoamerica. Intensive archaeological research that has been conducted since the 1960s, much of it as a result of urban redevelopment, has shed new light on the development of towns in Anglo-Saxon England. In this book, Pamela Crabtree uses up-to-date archaeological data to explore urban origins in early medieval Britain. She argues that many Roman towns remained important places on the landscape, despite losing most of their urban character by the fifth century. Beginning with the decline of towns in the fourth and fifth centuries, Crabtree then details the origins and development of towns in Britain from the 7th century through the Norman Conquest in the mid-eleventh century CE. She also sets the development of early medieval urbanism in Britain within a broader, comparative framework.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51406660075793,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51406660305169,"sku":"GOR010854482","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52595384582417,"sku":"NLS9780521713702","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53376903840017,"sku":"NIN9780521713702","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0521713706.jpg?v=1751429093"},{"product_id":"eaa-174-provisioning-ipswich-book-p-crabtree-9780956874764","title":"EAA 174: Provisioning Ipswich","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52164845633809,"sku":"GOR014498805","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780956874764.jpg?v=1757673061"},{"product_id":"routledge-revivals-medieval-archaeology-2001-book-pam-j-crabtree-9781138056305","title":"Routledge Revivals: Medieval Archaeology (2001)","description":"First published in 2001, this is the first reference work to cover the archaeology of medieval Europe.
