The purpose of this book is to present models and statistical methods for the analysis of recurrent event data. No single comprehensive treatment of these areas currently exists. The authors provide broad but detailed coverage of the major approaches to analysis, while also emphasizing the modeling assumptions that they are based on. Thus, they consider important models such as Poisson and renewal processes, with extensions to incorporate covariates or random effects.   More general intensity-based models are also considered, as well as simpler models that focus on rate or mean functions. Parametric, nonparametric and semiparametric methodologies are all covered, with clear descriptions of procedures for estimation, testing and model checking. Important practical topics such as observation schemes and selection of individuals for study, the planning of randomized experiments, events of several types, and the prediction of future events are considered.   Methods of modeling and analysis are illustrated through many examples taken from health research and industry. The objectives and interpretations of different analyses are discussed in detail, and issues of robustness are addressed. Statistical analysis of the examples is carried out with S-PLUS software and code is given for some examples.   This book is directed at graduate students, researchers, and applied statisticians working in industry, government or academia. Some familiarity with survival analysis is beneficial since survival software is used to carry out many of the analyses considered. This book can be used as a textbook for a graduate course on the analysis of recurrent events or as a reference for a more general course on event history analysis. Problems are given at the end of chapters to reinforce the material presented and to provide additional background or extensions to certain topics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50350997242129,"sku":"CIN0387698094G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52485403934993,"sku":"NLS9780387698090","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52735202459921,"sku":"NIN9780387698090","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0387698094.jpg?v=1750910420"},{"product_id":"multistate-models-for-the-analysis-of-life-history-data-book-richard-j-cook-9781498715607","title":"Multistate Models for the Analysis of Life History Data","description":"Multistate Models for the Analysis of Life History Data provides the first comprehensive treatment of multistate modeling and analysis, including parametric, nonparametric and semiparametric methods applicable to many types of life history data. Special models such as illness-death, competing risks and progressive processes are considered, as well as more complex models. The book provides both theoretical development and illustrations of analysis based on data from randomized trials and observational cohort studies in health research. It features: Discusses a wide range of applications of multistate models, Presents methods for both continuously and intermittently observed life history processes, Gives a thorough discussion of conditionally independent censoring and observation processes, Discusses models with random effects and joint models for two or more multistate processes, Discusses and illustrates software for multistate analysis that is available in R, Target audience includes those engaged in research and applications involving multistate models.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50377545515281,"sku":"CIN1498715605G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1498715605.jpg?v=1750860099"},{"product_id":"asia-pacific-secondary-states-as-kingmakers-book-richard-j-cook-9781032843056","title":"Asia-Pacific Secondary States as Kingmakers","description":"Focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, Cook, Ohle and Han investigate the escalating strategic competition between China and the US. They explore the dynamics of key regional secondary states caught in the middle, namely Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam, emphasising their crucial role as potential kingmakers in the shifting balance of power.  China and the US are competing to win influence over these regional linchpins to advance their geopolitical ambitions and ultimately win the strategic competition. Elucidating a “power of the weak paradox”, this contribution examines the challenging choices faced by these secondary states as they navigate alignment pressures, which influence the trajectory of the great power strategic competition. Drawing upon a range of first-hand government sources and regional perspectives, the authors take the temperature of the China-US strategic competition, revealing the intricate influencing dynamics and perilous choices linchpins are being pushed to make that will determine the fate of the Asia-Pacific.  This is a timely resource for researchers, students, scholars and politicians navigating the complex realm of international relations by providing a profound exploration of power struggles, strategic choices and the often-overlooked role of secondary states.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51600079618321,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51600079683857,"sku":"NGR9781032843056","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52672835092753,"sku":"NLS9781032843056","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032843055.jpg?v=1750709475"},{"product_id":"statistical-analysis-of-recurrent-events-book-richard-j-cook-9781441924155","title":"The Statistical Analysis of Recurrent Events","description":"Recurrent events are important in scientific as well as everyday contexts. These are events that may occur repeatedly over time, and which generally carry either a positive or negative connotation. For example, repeated attacks of asthma for an individual, repeated insurance claims for a company, or repeated breakdowns in equipment of systems, have negative implications. The Statistical Analysis of Recurrent Events describes how to model, collect and analyse data on recurrent events, in order to understand them better and improve processes in which they occur. Applications in areas such as cancer treatment, chronic disease and equipment reliability are discussed at length in the book, including details on how to implement analyses using available software.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52332102942993,"sku":"NLS9781441924155","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781441924155.jpg?v=1758150549"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-richard-j-cook.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
