It hardly profits us to conjecture what Stephen Crane might have written about the World War had he lived. Certainly, he would have been in it, in one capacity or another. No man had a greater talent for war and personal adventure, nor a finer art in describing it. Few writers of recent times could so well describe the poetry of motion as manifested in the surge and flow of battle, or so well depict the isolated deed of heroism in its stark simplicity and terror. To such an undertaking as Henri Barbusse's Under Fire, that powerful, brutal book, Crane would have brought an analytical genius almost clairvoyant. He possessed an uncanny vision; a descriptive ability photographic in its clarity and its care for minutiae - yet unphotographic in that the big central thing often is omitted, to be felt rather than seen in the occult suggestion of detail. Crane would have seen and depicted the grisly horror of it all, as did Barbusse, but also he would have seen the glory and the ecstasy and the wonder of it, and over that his poetry would have been spread.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49596063318289,"sku":"GOR005422700","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49615062171921,"sku":"GOR006622450","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49911193567505,"sku":"CIN0786949015G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0786949015.jpg?v=1751106462"},{"product_id":"rogers-marvel-architects-book-rob-rogers-9781568989990","title":"Rogers Marvel Architects","description":"New York City-based Rogers Marvel Architects has garnered high praise for its distinctive blend of elegance, technical mastery, and civic consciousness. In its 20 years of practice designing in cities around the country, the firm has maintained an attitude of curiosity about the elements that make design. It is the story of how these designers acquire knowledge and expertise in what they haven't done but are doing, by making buildings, spaces and things. Navigating from how small things can have massive effect and finding adaptability in authenticity, to opening space, revealing the unexpected, designing the invisible to delight, and engaging responsibly with inherited patterns, Rogers and Moutaud use the lens of twelve of the firm's projects, analysed in twenty-two case studies that support those six themes. Essays and catalogued inspirations preface each chapter while a display of large images for each project discussed concludes the book. These projects include a park and pavilion on the National Mall and one in Minneapolis, a corporate campus in downtown Oklahoma City, the Ellipse behind the White House, an open space in the Tetons, the narrow streets in New York's Financial District and the new ones along the Hudson River, a temporary art museum in Kowloon, a power plant in Syracuse, benches to aid New York's resilience, and many more to come.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52345822249233,"sku":"NLS9781941806579","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52756436091153,"sku":"NIN9781941806579","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781941806579.jpg?v=1773136907"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-rob-rogers.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
