I sent him a cautionary tale of a mutated creature from the waters of the Amazon. He liked the milieu: mutation and the jungle. I had previously explored their collision in two poems for \u003cem\u003eAsimov's SF \u003c\/em\u003eand\u003cem\u003e Amazing Stories\u003c\/em\u003e, but Bruce insisted there were rich poetic possibilities still to be mined.
