The colonisation of Asia by our species was one of the most momentous events in human evolution. Starting around or before 100,000 years ago, humans began to disperse out of Africa and into the Arabian Peninsula, and then across southern Asia through India, Southeast Asia and south China. They learnt to build boats and sail to the islands of Southeast Asia, from which they reached Australia by 50,000 years ago. Around that time, humans also dispersed from the Levant through Iran, Central Asia, southern Siberia, Mongolia, the Tibetan Plateau, north China and the Japanese islands, and they also colonised Siberia as far north as the Arctic Ocean. By 30,000 years ago, humans had colonised the whole of Asia from Arabia to the Pacific, and from the Arctic to the Indian Ocean as well as the European Peninsula. In doing so, we replaced all other types of humans such as Neandertals and ended five million years of human diversity.  Using interdisciplinary source material, From Arabia to the Pacific charts this process and draws conclusions as to the factors which made it possible. It will be invaluable to scholars of prehistory, and archaeologists and anthropologists interested in how the human species moved out of Africa and spread throughout Asia.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49570183151889,"sku":"GOR012031691","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/036748241X.jpg?v=1750696907"},{"product_id":"palaeolithic-settlement-of-asia-book-robin-dennell-9780521613101","title":"The Palaeolithic Settlement of Asia","description":"This book provides the first analysis and synthesis of the evidence of the earliest inhabitants of Asia before the appearance of modern humans 100,000 years ago. Asia has received far less attention than Africa and Europe in the search for human origins, but is no longer considered of marginal importance. Indeed, a global understanding of human origins cannot be properly understood without a detailed consideration of the largest continent. In this study, Robin Dennell examines a variety of sources, including the archaeological evidence, the fossil hominin record, and the environmental and climatic background from Southwest, Central, South, and Southeast Asia, as well as China. He presents an authoritative and comprehensive framework for investigations of Asia's oldest societies, challenges many long-standing assumptions about its earliest inhabitants, and places Asia centrally in the discussions of human evolution in the past two million years.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49973805711633,"sku":"CIN0521613108G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52454070092049,"sku":"NLS9780521613101","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52735452774673,"sku":"NIN9780521613101","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53345155416337,"sku":"GOR014863184","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0521613108.jpg?v=1750976400"},{"product_id":"early-farming-in-south-bulgaria-from-the-vi-to-the-iii-millenia-b-c-book-robin-dennell-9780860540212","title":"Early Farming in South Bulgaria from the VI to the III Millenia B.C.","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51198637834513,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51198639833361,"sku":"NIN9780860540212","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52484097966353,"sku":"NLS9780860540212","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0860540219.jpg?v=1750883364"},{"product_id":"early-hominin-landscapes-in-northern-pakistan-book-robin-dennell-9781841713717","title":"Early Hominin Landscapes in Northern Pakistan","description":"This volume documents fieldwork conducted in the Pabbi Hills by the British Archaeological Mission to Pakistan as part of its Palaeolithic and Pleistocene research programme in 1986-1990, with the aim of finding evidence for early hominid occupation and placing this in its environmental and chronological context. Detailed results of the field surveys and excavations are presented here for the first time. The fossil remains from the surveys constitute the main body of evidence; by the end of the 1990 field season, over 40,000 specimens had been found. Every effort has been made to present as complete a record of the finds as possible. Given the lack of detailed data on the vertebrate fossil content of the Upper Siwaliks (and Early Pleistocene in Asia generally), it is hoped that this report will help scholars interested in the Upper Siwaliks in particular, but also the taphonomic aspects of fluvial assemblages in general.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52135574012177,"sku":"NLS9781841713717","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52755673186577,"sku":"NIN9781841713717","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781841713717.jpg?v=1757549779"},{"product_id":"palaeolithic-settlement-of-asia-book-robin-dennell-9780521848664","title":"The Palaeolithic Settlement of Asia","description":"This book provides the first analysis and synthesis of the evidence of the earliest inhabitants of Asia before the appearance of modern humans 100,000 years ago. With contributions from leading experts that take into account the latest archaeological evidence from India and Southeast Asia, this volume critically reviews current models of the timing and character of the spread of modern humans out of Africa. It also demonstrates that the evidence from Australasia should receive much wider and more serious consideration in its own right if we want to understand how our species achieved its global distribution. Critically examining the 'Out of Africa' model, this book emphasises the context and variability of the global evidence in the search for human origins.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52654994063633,"sku":"NLS9781107017856","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781107017856.jpg?v=1762218534"},{"product_id":"pleistocene-and-palaeolithic-investigations-in-the-soan-valley-northern-pakistan-book-robin-dennell-9780860546917","title":"Pleistocene and Palaeolithic Investigations in the Soan Valley, Northern Pakistan","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52674178646289,"sku":"NLS9780860546917","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52740449632529,"sku":"NIN9780860546917","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780860546917.jpg?v=1762298931"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/author-books-by-robin-dennell.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
