Das Erzählen ist ein sozialer Austauschprozeß, denn jede Selbst-Narration muß von anderen bestätigt werden. Ein wichtiger Fokus von solchen Selbst-Erzählungen ist die zukunftsorientierte Formulierung von Identitätsprojekten. Denn Identitätsbildung als dynamisches Geschehen findet nicht bloß situativ statt, sondern wesentlich auch prospektiv. Auf der Basis dieses theoretischen Modells werden in einer empirischen Studie Identitätsprojekte von jungen Erwachsenen analysiert. Die gefundenen Typen können gelesen werden als Kommentare zur Identitätsentwicklung in einer krisenhaften Spätmoderne.
