Uber die grundlegenden Befunde zur Patho- physiologie zentraler Atemstorungen hinaus konnten auf diese Weise wertvolle klinische Erkenntnisse erarbeitet werden. Nicht nachweis- bare, latente Atmungsstorungen konnen mit Hilfe der Belastungs- prufungen aufgedeckt werden und weisen auf Art und Sitz der Schadigung hin. Bedrohliche allgemeine und lokalisierte Hirnstamm - Lasionen konnen im Fruhstadium erfat werden. Der sofortige Einsatz fur den zentral-dysregulierten Atmungstypus spezifischer Manahmen ist moglich geworden und kann die Ausbildung einer vitalen Dekompensation verhindern.
