These include natural resource depletion and environmental degradation, food and water insecurity, energy shortages, diminishing biodiversity, increasing losses from natural disasters, and climate change with its associated potentially devastating consequences, such as rising sea levels. These human-induced and natural impacts on the environment need to be well understood in order to develop informed policies, decisions, and remedial measures to mitigate current and future negative impacts. To achieve this, continuous monitoring and management of the environment to acquire data that can be soundly and rigorously analyzed to provide information about its current state and changing patterns, and thereby allow predictions of possible future impacts, are essential. Developing pragmatic and sustainable solutions to address these and many other similar challenges requires the use of geodata and the application of geoinformatics. This book presents the concepts and applications of geoinformatics, a multidisciplinary field that has at its core different technologies that support the acquisition, analysis and visualization of geodata for environmental monitoring and management. We depart from the 4D to the 5D data paradigm, which defines geodata accurately, consistently, rapidly and completely, in order to be useful without any restrictions in space, time or scale to represent a truly global dimension of the digital Earth. The book also features the state-of-the-art discussion of Web-GIS.  The concepts and applications of geoinformatics presented in this book will be of benefit to decision-makers across a wide range of fields, including those at environmental agencies, in the emergency services, public health and epidemiology, crime mapping, environmentalmanagement agencies, tourist industry, market analysis and e-commerce, or mineral exploration, among many others.    The title and subtitle of this textbook convey a distinct message. Monitoring -the passive part in the subtitle - refers to observation and data acquisition, whereas management - the active component - stands for operation and performance. The topic is our environment, which is intimately related to geoinformatics. The overall message is: all the mentioned elements do interact and must not be separated.  Hans-Peter B ahr, Prof. Dr.-Ing. This book explores state-of-the-art techniques based on open sources software \u0026amp; R statistical programming and modelling in modern geo-computation techniques specifically focusing on the recent trends in data mining\/machine learning techniques and robust modelling in soil resources.  Soil and agricultural systems are an integral part of the global environment and human well‐being, providing multiple goods and services essential for people worldwide and crucial for sustainable development. Soil contamination is an environmental hazard and has become a big issue related to environmental health. The challenge of the twenty-first century is to reduce the contaminant load and bring it to below permissible level. The contamination is not only a problem affecting local environments at the place of occurrence but also spreading to other regions because of easy transportation ofpollutants. This leads to direct and indirect contamination of land and aquatic systems, surface water and groundwater, inducing significant risks for natural ecosystems.   In this context, the spatial modelling, prediction, efficient use, risk assessment, protection and management of soil resources in the agriculture system are the key to achieving sustainable development goals and ensuring the promotion of an economically, socially and environmental sustainability future. The aim of this book on soil contaminants and environmental health: application of geospatial technology is to identify the soil and sediment quality, sources of contaminants and risk assessment and focuses on the decision-making and planning point of view through GIS data management techniques.  This book covers major topics such as spatial modelling in soil and sediments pollution and remediation; radioactive wastes, microbiology of soil and sediments, soil salinity and sodicity, pollution from landfill sites, soil erosion and contamination from agricultural activities, heavy metal pollution and health risk; environmental impact and risk assessment, sustainable land use, landscape management and governance, soil degradation and risk assessment, agricultural soil pollution, pollution due to urban activities, soil pollution by industrial effluents and solid wastes, pollution control and mitigation in extreme environments. The content of this book is of interest to researchers, professionals and policy-makers whose work is in soil science and agriculture practices. The book equips with the knowledge and skills to tackle a wide range of issues manifested in geographic data, including those with scientific, societal and environmental implications.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51064747688209,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51064750407953,"sku":"NIN9783031092695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52453517295889,"sku":"NLS9783031092695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031092694.jpg?v=1751157915"},{"product_id":"global-arsenic-hazard-book-nabeel-khan-niazi-9783031163623","title":"Global Arsenic Hazard","description":"This book provides a plethora of information about global arsenic (As) contamination and the challenges for environment. Arsenic is a naturally occurring metalloid that is widely distributed in water, soil, air and biota from natural and anthropogenic sources. Arsenic has been found in drinking water in over 100 countries worldwide, which caused a major public health issue including: cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and cancers of various organs - these are some of the general health effects of As exposure. Exposure of plants to As, even at very low concentrations, can cause many morphological, physiological, and biochemical changes. The recent research on As in the water-soil-plant-human systems indicates that As toxicity to plants varies with As speciation in plants, type of plant species and with other soil factors controlling As accumulation in plants. In recent years, the development of efficient green chemistry methods for detoxification of trace metal poisoning has become a major focus of researchers. It has been investigated in order to find an eco-friendly and recyclable technique for the removal of As contamination from the natural resources. Understanding the significance of As hazard and roles of sustainable or eco-friendly approaches in its mitigation, we intend to bring forth a comprehensive volume “Global Arsenic Hazard - Ecotoxicology and Remediation\" highlighting the various prospects involved in current scenario. The COVID-19 epidemic and the 2020 global pandemic have had an unprecedented public health impact. These included not only economic impacts but also social activities, and environmental and ecological impacts. This study examined the fact that net effects were positive, for example, in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, oil and gas exploration activities, and reductions in pollution. The most notable and most positive environmental impact of COVID-19 is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from transportation sources. Air and road transport cause a huge portion of the pollution from closures and outages. Restrictions on economic and social mobility have had positive impacts, with reductions in transport and trade contributing significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By increasing their scale, endangered ecosystems benefit from improved environmental quality.    To better understand how the environment is maintained, we summarize the evolution of COVID-19 and subsequent pandemics. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unexpected and lasting impact on the environment. At the same time, ecological hotspots where human activity is commonly prevalent benefit from improved environmental quality, allowing wildlife and other life forms to thrive. For this reason, we can conclude that the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent pandemic were beneficial to environmental stewardship.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51608048107793,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51608048304401,"sku":"NIN9783031477560","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664925192465,"sku":"NLS9783031477560","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031477561.png?v=1751220976"},{"product_id":"environmental-governance-ecological-remediation-and-sustainable-development-book-dongfei-han-9783031529009","title":"Environmental Governance, Ecological Remediation and Sustainable Development","description":"The book focuses on environmental monitoring, pollution discharge control and management, environmental pollution governance, ecological remediation technology, and environmental sustainability. It covers the type of MPs, its effects on human health and climate, and emerging detection and treatment methods.    Plastics are one of the refractory pollutants produced in many and varied forms using chemistry and materials science. Microplastics (MPs), which are formed as a result of plastics breaking down into small pieces, are a new indicator that indicates that the plastic footprint of humans is growing today and this has become a risk for the general living health and sustainable environment. Depending on the point of use, they are either directly released to the air, water, and soil, or they break down into secondary MPs in the environment where they are discharged. Especially by means of domestic wastewater, plenty of MPs enter the sewage system on a daily basis. Therefore, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) draw attention as an important source of MP pollution in coastal or surface waters such as sea, lake, and river. There is still a limited number of studies on MPs in the literature and it has become the focus of many researchers around the world.    This book mainly focuses on the behavior of microplastics in the wastewaters. The book has 12 chapters and throughout each chapter, it presents the fate and effect of MPs, quantitative and qualitative analyses of MPs in wastewaters and treatment of MPs through conventional and advanced wastewater treatment technologies, effects of MPs on human health and climate change and also evaluates the legal restrictions for MPs pollution in the environment and will also be examined in all details. It also boosts the knowledge of students, researchers, scientists, professors, engineer, and professionals who aspire to work in the field of environmental science, environmental biotechnology, environmental microbiology, civil\/environmental engineering, eco-toxicology and other relevant areas of wastewater treatment and management for the safety of environment. In addition to this, the readers of the book can also get the valuable information about the various environmental problems-related climate change and their solutions.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51680437109009,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51680437371153,"sku":"NIN9783031769481","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52620390760721,"sku":"NLS9783031769481","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031769481.jpg?v=1751382836"},{"product_id":"jatropha-curcas-l-a-potential-2g-energy-crop-to-produce-biofuel-in-bangladesh-book-kamrun-nahar-9783031776410","title":"Jatropha curcas L: A Potential 2G Energy Crop to Produce Biofuel in Bangladesh","description":"This book addresses the opportunity to cultivate a multipurpose, drought resistant and nonfood bioenergy crop, Jatropha curcas L. in Bangladesh. As a renewable resource and a sustainable substitute for fossil fuel, Jatropha curcas produces seeds containing inedible oil, which can supply fuel and meet the national energy demands of Bangladesh. The plant does not need arable lands and does not compete with food, water and nutrients. This book also highlights the land use patterns and possible cultivation areas of Bangladesh. It is based on research of the cultivation technology, ecological and agronomical aspects, biotechnological methodologies, harvesting and crop yield including fuel and byproduct formation. It also highlights the different uses and socioeconomic benefits of the plant and production costs and briefly describes the procedure for the production of biodiesel and other useful byproducts. In the recent years, the problems regarding pollution have become more global, and awareness about the environmental problems is increasing continuously. Environmental awakening has led many scientists to focus on the assessment of environmental impact of various emerging contaminants. The first victims of the environmental pollution are the terrestrial plants and aquatic bodies in the vicinity of urban areas that experience heavy pollution due to industrial effluents, toxic chemicals, hospital waste, radioactive waste, industrial fumes, vehicular traffic, etc. The increasing industrialization and use of hazardous chemicals are responsible for the lack of access to clean water in many parts of the world. In view of the widespread occurrence, persistence, and harmful effects of environmental pollutants on human population, the present book is proposed.    Emerging contaminants due to ubiquitous distribution, persistence, and toxic effects have necessitated the development of efficient methods for remediation of contamination. Reports appearing from time to time reveal that the number and concentration of contaminants in the environment are continuously increasing. Thus, development as well as dissemination of new and eco-friendly methods for the removal of these pollutants has become a challenging task.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728244277521,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728244736273,"sku":"NGR9783031825781","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031825780.jpg?v=1751158153"},{"product_id":"proceedings-of-the-11th-international-conference-on-energy-engineering-and-envir-book-zuoyu-sun-9783031762079","title":"Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering","description":"This book contains the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering (ICEEEE 2024), which was held on August 17–18, 2024, in Xiamen, China. When these garments are washed in laundries, they give out tiny plastic fragments termed microfibers which end up in the environment and more precisely in the oceans. Plastic and synthetic polymer wastes which are often irresponsibly discarded into natural habitats undergo bio-fragmentation to give out huge amounts of microplastics and microfibers. Synthetic microfiber pollution has been reported in diverse ecosystems ranging from land and aquatic ecosystem to shorelines and seafloors. Due to the miniature size of the microfibers, it is difficult to detect, investigate, and prevent this type of pollution that is occurring on a larger scale. It is estimated that millions of tons of microfibers are released into the ocean from various sources. They are more toxic because they are more persistent and take a long time to degrade, and it gets accumulated in the environment along with other pollutants. This increases the chances of living organisms in the biosphere ingesting the synthetic microfibers causing harm to the ecosystem and entering into the food chain adversely affecting human beings. It had become a great field of research because of its abundance and the challenges in the identification of synthetic and semisynthetic microfibers from the environmental samples and the time it takes to be degraded. This book focuses on renewable energy generation and value addition from environmental microfiber pollution through advanced greener solution, thus building an economic supportable society as an elementary need of developing countries.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728304636177,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728304931089,"sku":"NGR9783031517945","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031517946.jpg?v=1751415392"},{"product_id":"prevention-of-air-pollution-book-qiang-wang-9783031854804","title":"Prevention of Air Pollution","description":"This book offers readers with analysis of the main causes and purification technology of air pollution.Air, as the primary element on which human life depends, directly impacts human living and health. It also reflects different sources of biofuel, application of microbial community and microbial engineering to design fuel production and the biosynthetic pathways of biofuel production by microbes.  Although the expenses for the physical and chemical technologies for energy production and fossil fuel utilization to protect our environment are very high, these technologies are not eco-friendly and safe. Hence, the need of certain modern eco-friendly and cost-effective techniques to protect our environment is deeply apprehended by different workers of this field. These techniques involve some feasible technologies utilizing different biological agents like microbes to produce renewable energy. This book provides an outline of the science behind the multidisciplinary aspects of biofuel production. It summarizes a solid foundation in the fundamentals and progresses to practical applications in this field. It structures stepwise route for a number of effective techniques to screen, select, identify and utilize microbes for biofuel production and utilization. It also focuses on the theoretical groundworks of biofuel production, recent technologies related to microbial engineering like myco-engineering technologies, microbial metabolism or modelling approaches to microbial physiology utilized for the same purpose. The techniques covered in this book ensure that scientists have the knowledge to practice effective biofuel production techniques themselves in a contaminated ecosystem in a sustainable way.  Recent progress in the field of biofuels using microbial genetic engineering has larger perspectives in commercial-scale production. However, its large-scale production is still challenging; hence, to resolve this problem, it is essential to convert biomass into biofuels by developing novel technology to increase biofuel production to fulfil the current and future energy demand.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728309190929,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728309747985,"sku":"NGR9783031521690","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031521692.jpg?v=1750729316"},{"product_id":"environmental-functional-materials-in-air-pollution-book-qiang-wang-9783031845703","title":"Environmental Functional Materials in Air Pollution","description":"This book offers readers with analysis of the main causes of air pollution and related functional materials application and research.Air, as the primary element on which human life depends, directly impacts human living and health. The Cs-137 resampling approach will improve significantly the use of the Cs-137 method for assessment of soil erosion, because resampling the radionuclide repeatedly (at least two times, but more sampling campaigns are possible) allows to avoid several methodological difficulties associated with Cs-137 method, namely the problems with small-scale spatial heterogeneity, the question of representativeness of reference site, reference samples, and inappropriate time extent of evaluated period. All these methodological problems are very important for reliability and accuracy of erosion rates estimated by Cs-137 method. If using single sampling approach, the small-scale spatial heterogeneity can be overcome by high number of sampling points, but this is time and labour demanding solution increasing the expenses of the erosion research. The representativeness of reference site is evaluated usually on the basis of expert judgement and knowledge of land use history of studied area, but this approach is often uncertain because the expert judgement can be subjective and the data on land use history is often not sufficient. Further, in many areas an appropriate reference site is not available, what limits the territorial extent of using Cs-137 method. The resampling approach offers its second sampling to be done in a proximate vicinity of the same points sampled during the first sampling campaign. A great advantage is the possibility to decide how long time windows should be investigated. Choosing the time schedule of first and second sampling allows to shorten the time window and adjust it to the study objectives. This is a great improvement of the Cs-137 method, because the time period since the Cs-137 fallout is still growing and thus if using the single sampling approach the results refer to still longer and longer time window(since the Cs-137 fallout until the sampling time), and this period (recently ca 60 years assuming the maximum Cs-137 fallout in 1963) is too long to represent stable land use, because land uses are changing over the time and having the same land use over six decades is rather rare. The improvement of Cs-137 method achieved by resampling approach is significantly contributing to understanding the erosion dynamics and estimating its rates under changing environmental conditions (such as land uses, weather), and it will bring a significant benefit to soil conservation programmes, because Cs-137 method is indispensable for assessing the medium and long term soil erosion rates, and this information is among the basic inputs needed for planning and designing soil conservation measures.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728337830161,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728338223377,"sku":"NGR9783031528095","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031528093.jpg?v=1751317519"},{"product_id":"mercury-toxicity-book-nitish-kumar-9789819977215","title":"Mercury Toxicity","description":"This book presents mercury toxicity with respect to remediation and health issues. It covers sources of mercury contamination, its impact on human health, and prospective remediation by both bioremediation and phytoremediation with the application of recent advanced techniques such as genetic engineering and nanotechnology.  Both anthropogenic activities and natural processes cause the release of mercury into different spheres of the environment resulting in severe adverse impacts. Increased anthropogenic discharge of mercury leads to disturbance in its natural biogeochemical cycle, which results in unenviable diseases and hazardous health effects. Mercury pollution is responsible for causing neurobehavioral, kidney, heart, gastrointestinal, liver, and other diseases. Many published works about the impact of mercury on health are also available worldwide; however, there is no complete understanding available on toxicological studies of mercury that covers the broader spectrum of findings ranging from sources of exposure to mercury toxicity to its remediation strategies.  This book brings together a diverse group of environmental science, sustainability, and health researchers to address the challenges posed by global mass poisoning caused by mercury contamination. The book also proposes solutions to contamination through multi-disciplinary approaches.  The book contains three sections. The first part describes the different sources and distribution of mercury in soil and plant ecosystems. The second part explains the health risks linked to mercury toxicity. The third part addresses sustainable mercury toxicity mitigation strategies and the potential applications of recent technology in providing solutions. Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused immense devastation, leading to numerous fatalities as well as substantial economic losses and health issues. With the rise in COVID-19 cases, the amount of biomedical waste has multiplied, exposing more people to the epidemic. For developing countries, waste management is already a problem, and the waste generated during this pandemic situation has made things worse. If improper waste management techniques are not changed, the world will face a new crisis that could be referred to as a \"garbage crisis.\" The increased quantity of COVID-19-associated waste (CAW) and their presence in the environment make them more vulnerable, potentially increasing the danger of food chain contamination. A few countries have already started putting emergency plans in place to address the “waste crisis.” Given the paucity of information on the mutational features and potential hosts of this newly discovered COVID-19, there is a pressing need for an effective plan to protect India's ecosystem against further contamination. To handle the current crisis and prevent the anticipated waste disaster, it is imperative to construct a more effective, automated, computerized, and well-modified waste management system during the COVID-19 period.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728362963217,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728363618577,"sku":"NGR9783031508424","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031508424.jpg?v=1751127189"},{"product_id":"remediation-of-abandoned-surface-coal-mining-sites-book-alena-mudroch-9783540425397","title":"Remediation of Abandoned Surface Coal Mining Sites","description":"Christopher Kennedy University of Toronto, Department of Civil Engineering, 35 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S IA4 Coal is a valuable resource. It provides a significant amount of the World's energy supply and it is the basis for many industries. However, in areas where coal lies close to the Earth's surface and has been exploited by open cast tech- niques, radical alterations of landscape and significant impacts on the envi- ronment have occurred. This report was prepared to provide guidance to those who are responsible for the prevention of environmental effects from surface mining and for the restoration of the mining areas. Environmental problems of surface coal mining and restoration of the mine sites are discussed in the re- port. Particular attention is given to Eastern Europe, which continues to be a major centre of opencast lignite mining. Reclamation of mined lands for for- estry, agriculture and wildlife is briefly discussed. However, the shear volume of coal removed from many mines in Eastern Europe is so vast, that there is often insufficient overburden material to refill the pits. Consequently, the main focus of this report is on the creation of lakes in these former surface mines. Many problems have to be overcome in creating healthy lakes for recreation or wildlife. Guidelines for treating water quality problems and further devel- opment of lakes are provided. Techniques for dealing with acidic, waters, eutrophication and contamination are discussed.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52120539922705,"sku":"NLS9783540425397","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540425397.jpg?v=1757426160"},{"product_id":"information-technologies-in-environmental-engineering-book-paulina-golinska-9783642268885","title":"Information Technologies in Environmental Engineering","description":"This monograph contains recent studies in eco-informatics, promising ideas   and new challenges in information management for supporting sustainability in  companies and other organization. It also highlights the vital importance of understanding the technological, economic and social dimensions of environmental projects that have short-term results and long-term impacts.  It is unique in that it clearly distinguishes between environmental project management (EnvPM) and green project management (GreenPM), and presents an amalgamation of environmental management and project management concepts, using geospatial methods to form an EnvPM concept. The book sets a benchmark for the professionalism with which environmental projects should be planned, executed, monitored, assessed and delivered. While primarily intended for professionals responsible for the management of environmental projects or interested in improving the overall efficiency of such projects, it is also a useful handbook for managers in the private, public and non-for-profit sectors. It is a valuable resource for students at both undergraduate and master’s levels and an indispensable guide for anyone wanting to develop their skills in modern project management, environmental management and geospatial techniques. ``We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, and the last generation that can do something about it.'' US President Obama's address to the United Nations on Climate Change and Global warming (2015) hison: This book provides an in-depth, well-researched and science-based approach to applying key project-management and spatial tools and practices in environmental projects. An important read for leaders considering projects that balance social-economic growth against minimising its ill-effects on Planet Earth. - Todd Hutchison, Global Chairman of Peopleistic group.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52121148555537,"sku":"NLS9783319801933","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319801933.jpg?v=1757429360"},{"product_id":"impact-of-mining-on-the-landscape-book-renata-dulias-9783319805948","title":"The Impact of Mining on the Landscape","description":"The anthropogenic denudation rate in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, as well as the Ruhr Coal Basin (Ruhr District) and the Ostrava-Karvina Coal Basin, ranges from several dozen up to several hundred times higher than the rate of natural denudation, irrespective of the calculation method used.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52121679069457,"sku":"NLS9783319805948","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319805948.jpg?v=1757433563"},{"product_id":"transport-at-the-air-sea-interface-measurements-models-and-parametrizations-cd-9783540369042","title":"Transport at the Air-Sea Interface","description":"Predictions of our future climate vary greatly, with detailed forecasts still subject to debate. One key uncertainty is caused by the lack of our present knowledge of transport processes in the air-water interface, which poses the main transfer resistance between the oceans and atmosphere. Modeling and predictions of our global climate can only be improved by gaining a more complete understanding of the mechanisms involved in transporting energy, mass and momentum across the phase boundary.  This monograph contains selected, peer-reviewed post-conference contributions of the International Workshop on Transport at the Air-Sea Interface, which took place at Heidelberg University from September 6-8, 2006. The workshop brought together leading scientists from around the world, bridged the gap between modeling and measurements, and sparked new ideas for novel simulation and experimental efforts. The focus of the monograph is on small scale processes directly at the interface and includes the topics:  - Small-scale transport processes at the air-sea interface: surface divergence, microscale and largescale wave breaking, intermittency and rain-induced gas exchange  - Novel measurement techniques including eddy correlation measurements, active and passive thermography, visualization of concentration fields by fluorescent dyes, profile measurements and visualization of flow fields by particle imaging velocimetry (PIV)  - Modeling of the transport across the air-water interface and simulation of flow fields as well as concentration fields in the boundary layer  - Parameterizations of the transfer process for global modeling","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52125154279697,"sku":"NLS9783540369042","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540369042.jpg?v=1757462695"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/environmental-science-and-engineering-book-series.oembed?page=4","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
