Its unique contribution comes from its interdisciplinary approach that spans from the societal to the organizational level, with specific focus social innovation and management. It views management of social entrepreneurship and social enterprise in light of its societal context and employs social innovation to critically assess social entrepreneurship as driver of change. The emergence of social entrepreneurship as an academic field is linked to several societal trends such as public austerity, financial crises, new social challenges and a growing counter-movement to globalised capitalism. Generally seen as organisations serving both social and economic objectives, social enterprises, social innovation and social entrepreneurship have their roots in civil society, civic activism or the solidarityeconomy, but also manifest themselves as for-profit companies, with new organisational forms emerging and old ones changing. The contributions in this book elucidate these developments and the role of social entrepreneurs and social enterprises. Furthermore, the book offers great insight into the specific ways of managing, leading and creating innovation in social enterprises as well as perspectives on how to understand their social impact or value creation.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51064862277905,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51064864506129,"sku":"NIN9783031477072","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031477073.jpg?v=1751252502"},{"product_id":"is-inheritance-legitimate-book-guido-erreygers-9783540627258","title":"Is Inheritance Legitimate?","description":"On 8 November 1995 we organized the conference Is Inheritance Legitimate? The chapters explore how MacIntyre’s theory is applied to diverse institutional contexts, including education, medicine, and technology, addressing contemporary challenges in governance and ethical decision-making.    Bringing together well-known scholars from the 16th Annual Conference of the International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry (ISME) at the University of Navarra, this book critically examines the role of governing institutions in shaping practices and traditions. It highlights MacIntyre’s distinction between practices and institutions, addressing how these concepts influence ethical governance, leadership, and community-building in today's complex societal landscapes.    Contributors explore key themes such as the development of virtues within institutions, the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence, the moral foundations of education, and the governance of professions like medicine and land management. This volume also engages with contemporary issues, offering practical insights for fostering ethical decision-making and community participation in an increasingly technocratic world.    MacIntyre and the Practice of Governing Institutions is an essential resource for scholars of political philosophy, ethics, and governance, as well as for practitioners looking to navigate the ethical challenges posed by modern institutions. By examining how MacIntyre's thought applies to real-world issues, this book provides both theoretical depth and practical strategies for promoting human flourishing through virtuous governance.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51251915325713,"sku":"NIN9783031788871","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52152361976081,"sku":"NGR9783031788871","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031788877.jpg?v=1751063822"},{"product_id":"postcritical-management-studies-book-ghislain-deslandes-9783031294068","title":"Postcritical Management Studies","description":"This book is the first of its kind to offer a new definition of contemporary management. It addresses the questions: What is the main role of social relations and social practice in the transition from fundamentally unsustainable societies and local practices towards a sustainable future? And how does economical sustainability reduce or enhance social sustainability? The chapters in this work define and understand social sustainability in relation to principles such as solidarity, community, welfare, reciprocity, and regenerative co-existence. These principles are analyzed through the lens of emotions, respect, carefulness, sensitivity, and art, to establish counter-principles and narratives to principles like growth, efficiency, capitalism, and mastery of nature. Such counter-narratives to mainstream understandings and histories of economy aid in shedding light on a variety of different aspects of sustainability. The book presents a methodological plurality including conceptual and empirical approaches, praxis-oriented and inductive approaches. The chapters present interdisciplinary approaches concerning welfare, ecology, sociology, organization and economy, social psychology and aesthetics and therefore appeal to a broad audience of scholars and academics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51728313549073,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51728314040593,"sku":"NGR9783031513688","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031513681.jpg?v=1750934080"},{"product_id":"ethical-universals-in-international-business-book-f-neil-brady-9783540615880","title":"Ethical Universals in International Business","description":"Increased understanding in international business grows both from an awareness of cultural differences as well as from an appreciation of underlying shared values across cultures. It continues the discussion started in the year 1994 on the Older Historical School of Economics and the 19th century German contribution to an ethical theory of economics with the Newer Historical School of the 20th century. Economists, social scientists, and philosophers examine the contribution of this tradition and its impact for present theory. It has nothing to do with psychological and relational processes. The ontic level of analysis mirrors a philosophical outlook on organizational life. Unlike moral worldviews, post-moral worldviews oppose the existence of Truth-itself. Post-moral worldviews rather imply that dialogical relationships allow people to express their own truth-claims and welcome others’ truth-claims.  The purpose of this book is to explain the philosophical implications of moral and post-moral worldviews and the way to move from a moral to a post-moral worldview. Moreover, this book explores the possibility to transcend the moral\/post-moral dualism, through moral deliberation processes and a reinterpretation of the Presence of the Infinite in all dimensions of human life. This book could eventually help to better grasp the basic philosophical challenges behind ethical reflection about organizational issues.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52127507710225,"sku":"NLS9783030823542","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030823542.jpg?v=1757486908"},{"product_id":"ethics-of-capitalism-and-critique-of-sociobiology-book-peter-koslowski-9783540610359","title":"Ethics of Capitalism and Critique of Sociobiology","description":"This book publishes the English translation of texts that appeared first in Gennan in two separate booklets. Rosmini, one of the most important Italian and Catholic philosophers of the modern age, eschewed the traditional concepts of subjectivism and individualism at the core of the utilitarian thesis, prefiguring today’s critique of ‘autistic economics’ with his assertion that micro-economic formulae consecrating the ‘maximization of utility’ derive not from scientific principles or even hypotheses, but from uncritically adopted philosophical ideas. It was an assault on the determinism he perceived as the fatal flaw in accepted economic theory.   Rosmini’s notion of human and economic action, based on human beings’ ‘personal’ capacities for objective knowledge, truth recognition, moral goodness and happiness, deeply transform the meaning of central economic activities such as labour, wealth creation and consumption, and become crucial factors in any analysis of the operation of the economy. After introducing the fundamentals of Rosmini’s thought, the author details the theoretical and institutional features of utilitarian economics, tracing their influence on social norms. He juxtaposes these with Rosmini’s alternative philosophy which places the concept of social justice at its heart, and which attempts to establish a framework for relations between the public and private realms. The contemporary case is then made for adopting Rosmini’s principles, thus changing an economic paradigm widely held to be unassailable. The fruit of unprecedented and systematic research on Rosmini’s economic ideas, this volume offers a detailed conceptual framework to guide alternative approaches to conventional neoclassical economics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52138384032017,"sku":"NLS9789401781145","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789401781145.jpg?v=1757562482"},{"product_id":"theory-of-ethical-economy-in-the-historical-school-book-am-hauk-9783540590705","title":"The Theory of Ethical Economy in the Historical School","description":"The present volume seeks to inaugurate a new discussion of two schools of historical thought by social scientists, economists, and phi- losophers in the English language. Capitalism has not only been the topic for Marxist economics and for the Frankfurt School but also for the Historical School and for the postmarxist theory of capitalism in Ordo- and Neo-Liberalism as well as in Solidarism. The question of the foundations of the economic order of the market economy and of capitalism as well as the problem whether a third path between capitalism and social- ism is possible occupied this tradition from the Historical School to Ordo- Liberalism and the theory of the social market economy. The theory of capitalism and of the social market economy as well as the critique and reform developed in this theoretical tradition is important for the theory of economic systems as well as for today's problems of the eco- nomic order. Its relevance for the present world economy is visible in the discussions whether there exist different models of capitalism and whether they can be described as the Anglo-American and as the Rhenish model of capitalism influenced by the thought of the German economic tradition. Michel Albert, the author of this classification, gave the key-word in his book Capitalism against Capitalism. The papers of this book can help to clarify this debate by giving a first hand introduction to some of the main economic thinkers of capitalism.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52141157581073,"sku":"NLS9783540666745","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540666745.jpg?v=1757576582"},{"product_id":"theory-of-ethical-economy-in-the-historical-school-book-am-hauk-9783642633607","title":"The Theory of Ethical Economy in the Historical School","description":"The present volume seeks to inaugurate a new discussion of two schools of historical thought by social scientists, economists, and phi- losophers in the English language. Prof. Peter Koslowski, series editor of The Studies in Economic Ethics and Philosophy, SEP, expressed the hope that the SEP-Conference be held in the Far-East for the fist time would bring a new comparative aspect to economic ethics and philosophy. Further, the agenda of economic ethics seemed to increase its significance also in Japan and other Asian countries especially due to the spread of corruption in the government and business under the financial crisis that attacked these nations in the late 1990s. Though we chose Com- petition, Trust, and Cooperation as the general theme of the conference, this should include the collusion, distrust, and corruption as the opposite side of the medal. The conference was held on March 10-12, 1999 at the Kansai Seminar House of the Nippon Christian Academy, Kyoto, Japan. Fourteen papers were submitted to the conference. In addition to twelve papers that are printed in this volume, Prof. Ruisheng Wang (Capital Normal University, Beijing) read his paper on ethical problems in the context of Asian financial crisis and Prof. Agnar Sandmo (Norwegian School of Economics and Busi- ness Administration) did the same by his paper on societal aspect of the competition promotion policy.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148115603729,"sku":"NLS9783540678700","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540678700.jpg?v=1757602630"},{"product_id":"economics-as-moral-science-book-bernard-hodgson-9783540410621","title":"Economics as Moral Science","description":"Economics as Moral Science investigates the problem of the ethical neutrality of \"mainstream\" economic theory within the context of the methodology of economics as a science. Against the conventional wisdom, the author argues that there are serious moral presuppositions to the theory, but that economics could still count as a scientific or rational form of inquiry. The basic questions addressed - the ethical implications of economics, its status as a scientific mode of theory-construction, and the relation between these factors - are absolutely fundamental ones for an understanding of contemporary economics, the philosophy of the human sciences, and our current market culture. Moreover, the study provides a thorough philosophical analysis of the critical issues at stake from the inside, from the credible perspective of a particular, but foundational economic theory - the neoclassical theory of rational choice.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148272038161,"sku":"NLS9783540410621","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540410621.jpg?v=1757603119"},{"product_id":"trends-in-business-and-economic-ethics-book-christopher-cowton-9783642098383","title":"Trends in Business and Economic Ethics","description":"A growing body of academic and business specialists are paying attention to ethical issues in business and economics, drawing on a wide range of different disciplinary and theoretical perspectives. The internet eliminates the temporal and spatial constraints on the exchange of information. It changes deeply the world of production and of labour. The electronic economy is able to generate more accurate con- sumer profiles and, therefore, a more powerful and effective marketing di- rected to the individual consumer. There is no industry that is not undergoing thorough changes caused by the internet. The volume at hand gives an analysis of the internet revolution. It covers questions reaching form the highly controversial thesis of the end of property rights in the internet caused by the non-rivalry of the consumption of in- formation to questions regarding the repercussions of the internet on our understanding of the human person. Technological changes like the introduction of the electronic economy pose the question of how to handle it and how to manage reasonably its ethi- cal problems and dilemmas. The ethical problems and the business ethics of the electronic economy in the fields of production and labour, of consump- tion, and in handling trust and the abuse of trust are analysed by the contribu- tions from applied ethics and business ethics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52333635174673,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52333635830033,"sku":"NLS9783540221500","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540221500.jpg?v=1758155378"},{"product_id":"invisible-hand-and-the-common-good-book-bernard-hodgson-9783540223535","title":"The Invisible Hand and the Common Good","description":"This volume consists of papers derived from the Ninth International Conference on Studies in Economic Ethics and Philosophy (SEEP), held at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, in June of 2002. In view of the internationalization of the (global) economy and the free movement of capital, new instruments of political coordination are needed. These societal changes trigger the two closely intertwined challenges examined in this book. The first challenge relates to the role and the self-conceptualization of business firms as corporate citizens within society. Companies are increasingly expected to assume the social responsibility of helping to shape the rule-framework of globalization. The second challenge refers to the form of the engagement in local, national and international processes of governance. To more credibly and effectively tackle these challenges, corporate actors are ever more participating in rule-setting processes together with civil society organizations and the government.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52345086443793,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52345090081041,"sku":"NLS9789400737204","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789400737204.jpg?v=1758175256"},{"product_id":"perspectives-on-philosophy-of-management-and-business-ethics-book-jacob-dahl-rendtorff-9783319469720","title":"Perspectives on Philosophy of Management and Business Ethics","description":"This book presents a selection of articles with focus on the theoretical foundations of business ethics, and in particular on the philosophy of management and on human rights and business. This implies identifying and discussing conflicts as well as agreement with regard to the philosophical and other foundations of business and management.  Despite the general interest in corporate social responsibility and business ethics, the contemporary discussion rarely touches upon the normative core and philosophical foundations of business. There is a need to discuss the theoretical basis of business ethics and of business and human rights. Even though the actions and activities of business may be discussed from a moral perspective, not least in the media, the judgments and opinions relating to business and management often lack deeper moral reflection and consistency.  Partly for this reason, business ethicists are constantly challenged to provide such moral and philosophical foundations for business ethics and for business and human rights, and to communicate them in an understandable manner. Such a challenge is also of scientific kind. Positions and opinions in the academic field need to be substantiated by thorough moral and theoretical reflection to underpin normative approaches. Far too often, business ethicists may agree on matters, which they approach from different and sometimes irreconcilable philosophical standpoints, resulting in superficial agreement but deeper-lying disagreement. In other cases, it may be of high relevance to identify philosophical standpoints that despite conflicting fundamentals may arrive at conclusions acceptable to everyone.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52350056988945,"sku":"NLS9783319469720","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319469720.jpg?v=1758179885"},{"product_id":"creating-shared-value-concepts-experience-criticism-book-josef-wieland-9783319488011","title":"Creating Shared Value  Concepts, Experience, Criticism","description":"Over the last years, Creating Shared Value has become a much discussed concept in business practice as well as in management theory and especially in the context of corporate social responsibility.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52350939332881,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52350939889937,"sku":"NLS9783319488011","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319488011.jpg?v=1758180612"},{"product_id":"sociobiology-and-bioeconomics-book-peter-koslowski-9783540653806","title":"Sociobiology and Bioeconomics","description":"The volume at hand publishes the proceedings of the conference Develop- mental Systems, Competition, and Cooperation in Sociobiology and Eco- nomics, a Studies in Economic Ethics and Philosophy (SEP)-Conference held at Marienrode Monastery, Hildesheim-Marienrode near Hannover, Ger- many, on 24-28 April 1996. Rosmini, one of the most important Italian and Catholic philosophers of the modern age, eschewed the traditional concepts of subjectivism and individualism at the core of the utilitarian thesis, prefiguring today’s critique of ‘autistic economics’ with his assertion that micro-economic formulae consecrating the ‘maximization of utility’ derive not from scientific principles or even hypotheses, but from uncritically adopted philosophical ideas. It was an assault on the determinism he perceived as the fatal flaw in accepted economic theory.   Rosmini’s notion of human and economic action, based on human beings’ ‘personal’ capacities for objective knowledge, truth recognition, moral goodness and happiness, deeply transform the meaning of central economic activities such as labour, wealth creation and consumption, and become crucial factors in any analysis of the operation of the economy. After introducing the fundamentals of Rosmini’s thought, the author details the theoretical and institutional features of utilitarian economics, tracing their influence on social norms. He juxtaposes these with Rosmini’s alternative philosophy which places the concept of social justice at its heart, and which attempts to establish a framework for relations between the public and private realms. In view of the internationalization of the (global) economy and the free movement of capital, new instruments of political coordination are needed. These societal changes trigger the two closely intertwined challenges examined in this book. The first challenge relates to the role and the self-conceptualization of business firms as corporate citizens within society. Companies are increasingly expected to assume the social responsibility of helping to shape the rule-framework of globalization. The second challenge refers to the form of the engagement in local, national and international processes of governance. To more credibly and effectively tackle these challenges, corporate actors are ever more participating in rule-setting processes together with civil society organizations and the government.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52407165649169,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52407166501137,"sku":"NLS9789400716605","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789400716605.jpg?v=1758771497"},{"product_id":"essays-in-socio-economics-book-amitai-etzioni-9783540644668","title":"Essays in Socio-Economics","description":"These essays deal with various aspects of a new, rising field, socio economics. The field is seeking to combine the variables studied by neoclassical economists with those typically studied by other social sciences. The combination is expected to provide a better understanding of economic behavior and the economy as well as society; make more reliable predictions; and be more in line with normative values we seek to uphold. The new field, though, may be less elegant mathematically and possibly less parsimonious than neoclassical economics. Some of my ideas on this subject are included in a previously published book, The Moral Dimension: TowardA New Economics (New York: The Free Press, 1988). They also led to a formation of an international society of several thousand scholars who are interested in the field, the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics. The essays at hand are in effect grouped. The first two, previously published respectively in the Journal of Economic Psychology and Business Ethics Quarterly, reflect my most recent thinking. They both have a utopian streak that may stand out especially in these days when unfeathered capitalism is the rage. The first points to people, who far from making consuming ever more their life's project, seek a less affiuent way oflife. It examines the psychological foundations and the social consequences of such an approach.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52408138989841,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52408139645201,"sku":"NLS9783540644668","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540644668.jpg?v=1758774228"},{"product_id":"corporate-governance-and-business-ethics-book-alexander-brink-9789400715875","title":"Corporate Governance and Business Ethics","description":"This volume explores corporate governance from three perspectives: a traditional economic, a philosophical, and an integrated business ethics perspective.   Corporate governance has enjoyed a long tradition in the English-speaking world of management sciences. Following its traditional understanding it is defined as leadership and control of a firm with the aim of securing the long-term survival and viability of that firm. But recent business scandals and financial crises continue to provide ample cause for concern and have all fuelled interest in the ethical aspects. As a result, corporate governance has been criticized by many social groups. Economic sciences have failed to provide a clear definition of the corporate governance concept. Complexity increases if we embed the economic approach of corporate governance in a philosophical context. This book seeks to define the concept by examining its economic, philosophical and business ethics foundations.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52409866780945,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52409867239697,"sku":"NLS9789400715875","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789400715875.jpg?v=1758776115"},{"product_id":"democracy-and-the-european-union-book-andreas-follesdal-9783540634577","title":"Democracy and the European Union","description":"This work addresses the challenges of the EU to democratic theory. Its unique contribution comes from its interdisciplinary approach that spans from the societal to the organizational level, with specific focus social innovation and management. It views management of social entrepreneurship and social enterprise in light of its societal context and employs social innovation to critically assess social entrepreneurship as driver of change. The emergence of social entrepreneurship as an academic field is linked to several societal trends such as public austerity, financial crises, new social challenges and a growing counter-movement to globalised capitalism. Generally seen as organisations serving both social and economic objectives, social enterprises, social innovation and social entrepreneurship have their roots in civil society, civic activism or the solidarityeconomy, but also manifest themselves as for-profit companies, with new organisational forms emerging and old ones changing. The contributions in this book elucidate these developments and the role of social entrepreneurs and social enterprises. Furthermore, the book offers great insight into the specific ways of managing, leading and creating innovation in social enterprises as well as perspectives on how to understand their social impact or value creation.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418692546833,"sku":"NGR9783031477102","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}]},{"product_id":"financial-crimes-and-existential-philosophy-book-michel-dion-9789400773257","title":"Financial Crimes and Existential Philosophy","description":"The aim of this book is to deepen our understanding of financial crimes as phenomena. Further, the agenda of economic ethics seemed to increase its significance also in Japan and other Asian countries especially due to the spread of corruption in the government and business under the financial crisis that attacked these nations in the late 1990s. Their common question is how moral values and ethical demands can become an integral part of economic and corporate deci- sions- in a way that is credible and comprehensible for the society. Generally accepted best practice or minimum requirements for codes of conduct matter in this context. They codify values like integrity, fairness, openness, honesty, truthfulness, solidarity and justice, which have to be im- plemented in a company's day-to-day business. In one sentence: There is a need to develop criteria for seriosity and credibility, for evaluating and con- trolling standards of conduct and the managerial systems created for this purpose. In the international arena terms like Ethics management system, Ethics program, Values program, Ethics audit and Social audit are in use to denote these management systems. In this context it seems to me that the European perspective results from the values driven integration of corporate govern- ance (e.g. risk management, compliance), quality management (e.g. human capital, supply chain) and corporate citizenship (human rights, ecology, so- cial responsibility, communitiy) into a comprehensive and consistent man- agement decision system. The core value and common denominator of these areas is sustainability. This, for instance, as opposed to narrow compliance programs that are largely law driven, to use a distinction which Lynn S. Paine introduced.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52455486095633,"sku":"NLS9783642072925","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642072925.jpg?v=1759374431"},{"product_id":"discovery-of-historicity-in-german-idealism-and-historism-book-peter-koslowski-9783642063695","title":"The Discovery of Historicity in German Idealism and Historism","description":"German Idealism develops its philosophy of history as the theory of becoming absolute and as absolute knowledge. The volume further presents the impact of Idealism and Historism on present German approaches to the philosophy of history and outlines the debates on the possibility of a philosophy of history and on the methodology of the historical sciences.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52476301508881,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476302819601,"sku":"NLS9783540243939","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540243939.jpg?v=1759843840"},{"product_id":"ethics-in-business-and-society-book-gerhold-k-becker-9783540607731","title":"Ethics in Business and Society","description":"faces the urgent problem of determining what political and social conditions must be preserved in order to ensure a continu. ing thriving economy. 2 And the ethicist, we may add, can draw on all of those problems and quite a few more characteristic of situations when traditional communities struggle with the impact of sudden and unprecedented wealth as well as with a technological transformation of their society of singular proportions. Hong Kong is truly a society in transition, a society whose time is running short and which therefore cannot afford to wait long before it has to make decisive choices, choices also in ethics. The time factor which is so infamous in various ethical dilemmas applies here to the society as a whole; it may also account for some of its not just morally significant shortcomings. I. Ethics in a Cross-cultural Perspective The authors of this volume are scholars and researchers based in Hong 3 Kong who have been living and working in the territory for many years. They are not only representative of the increased research interest in ethical issues across the academic spectrum of Hong Kong universities, but also of the inter- disciplinary approach which has become the hallmark of work in applied eth- ics. As is well documented, ethics research, at long last, has left behind its disciplinary confines and, even more so, the philosophical ivory tower and begun to permeate the full scope of the academic and scientific agenda.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476466168081,"sku":"NLS9783540607731","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52761628573969,"sku":"NIN9783540607731","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540607731.jpg?v=1759844106"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/ethical-economy-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
