The conference brought together researchers in completely integrable systems and PDE with the goal of advancing the understanding of qualitative and long-time behavior in dispersive nonlinear equations. The program included Percy Deift’s Coxeter lectures, which appear in this volume together with tutorial lectures given during the first week of the focus program. The research papers collected here include new results on the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, the massive Thirring model, and the Benjamin-Bona-Mahoney equation as dispersive PDE in one space dimension, as well as the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili II equation, the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, and the Gross-Pitaevskii equation as dispersive PDE in two space dimensions.    The Focus Program coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of the discovery by Gardner, Greene, Kruskal and Miura that the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation could be integrated by exploiting a remarkable connection between KdV and the spectral theory of Schrodinger's equation in one space dimension. This led to the discovery of a number of completely integrable models of dispersive wave propagation, including the cubic NLS equation, and the derivative NLS equation in one space dimension and the Davey-Stewartson, Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and Novikov-Veselov equations in two space dimensions. These models have been extensively studied and, in some cases, the inverse scattering theory has been put on rigorous footing. It has been used as a powerful analytical tool to study global well-posedness and elucidate asymptotic behavior of the solutions, including dispersion, soliton resolution, and semiclassical limits.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51602404671761,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51602405916945,"sku":"CIN1493998056G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52432533651729,"sku":"NLS9781493998050","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1493998056.jpg?v=1751054006"},{"product_id":"arithmetic-and-geometry-of-k3-surfaces-and-calabi-yau-threefolds-book-radu-laza-9781489999184","title":"Arithmetic and Geometry of K3 Surfaces and Calabi-Yau Threefolds","description":"In recent years, research in K3 surfaces and Calabi-Yau varieties has seen spectacular progress from both arithmetic and geometric points of view, which in turn continues to have a huge influence and impact in theoretical physics-in particular, in string theory.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52121461981457,"sku":"NLS9781489999184","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781489999184.jpg?v=1757431012"},{"product_id":"combinatorial-algebraic-geometry-book-gregory-g-smith-9781493974856","title":"Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry","description":"This volume consolidates selected articles from the 2016 Apprenticeship Program at the Fields Institute, part of the larger program on Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry that ran from July through December of 2016. Hilbert spaces of analytic functions form one of the pillars of complex analysis. These spaces have a rich structure and for more than a century have been studied by many prominent mathematicians. They also have several essential applications in other fields of mathematics and engineering, e.g., robust control engineering, signal and image processing, and theory of communication. The most important Hilbert space of analytic functions is the Hardy class H2. However, its close cousins, e.g. the Bergman space A2, the Dirichlet space D, the model subspaces Kt, and the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces H(b), have also been the center of attention in the past two decades. Studying the Hilbert spaces of analytic functions and the operators acting on them, as well as their applications in other parts of mathematics or engineering were the main subjects of this program. During the program, the world leading experts on function spaces gathered and discussed the new achievements and future venues of research on analytic function spaces, their operators, and their applications in other domains.         With more than 250 hours of lectures by prominent mathematicians, a wide variety of topics were covered. More explicitly, there were mini-courses and workshops on Hardy Spaces, Dirichlet Spaces, Bergman Spaces, Model Spaces, Interpolation and Sampling, Riesz Bases, Frames and Signal Processing, Bounded Mean Oscillation, de Branges-Rovnyak Spaces, Operators on Function Spaces, Truncated Toeplitz Operators, Blaschke Products and Inner Functions, Discrete and Continuous Semigroups of Composition Operators, The Corona Problem, Non-commutative Function Theory, Drury-Arveson Space, and Convergence of Scattering Data and Non-linear Fourier Transform. At the end of each week, there was a high profile colloquium talk on the current topic. The program also contained two semester-long advanced courses on Schramm Loewner Evolution and Lattice Models and Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space of Analytic Functions. The current volume features a more detailed version of some of the talks presented during the program.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52403887833361,"sku":"NLS9783031392696","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52779195171089,"sku":"NIN9783031392696","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783031392696.jpg?v=1766138501"},{"product_id":"advances-in-time-series-methods-and-applications-book-wai-keung-li-9781493965670","title":"Advances in Time Series Methods and Applications","description":"This volume reviews and summarizes some of A. It was held in June 2012 at the Fields Institute in Toronto, and attended by about fifty mathematicians. This volume validates and commemorates the workshop, and records some of the ideas that were developed within.    The corona problem dates back to 1941. It has exerted a powerful influence over mathematical analysis for nearly 75 years. There is material to help bring people up to speed in the latest ideas of the subject, as well as historical material to provide background. Particularly noteworthy is a history of the corona problem, authored by the five organizers, that provides a unique glimpse at how the problem and its many different solutions have developed.    There has never been a meeting of this kind, and there has never been a volume of this kind. Mathematicians—both veterans and newcomers—will benefit from reading this book. This volume makes a unique contribution to the analysis literature and will be a valuable part of the canon for many years to come.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52406985818385,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52406986408209,"sku":"NLS9781493912544","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781493912544.jpg?v=1758770939"},{"product_id":"nonlinear-dispersive-partial-differential-equations-and-inverse-scattering-book-peter-d-miller-9781493998081","title":"Nonlinear Dispersive Partial Differential Equations and Inverse Scattering","description":"Fifty years of KdV: an integrable system (P. The purpose of the Workshop on Discrete Geometry, the Conference on Discrete Geometry and Optimization, and the Workshop on Optimization, held in September 2011 at the Fields Institute, Toronto, was to further stimulate the interaction between geometers and optimizers. This volume reflects the interplay between these areas.   The inspiring Fejes Tóth Lecture Series, delivered by Thomas Hales of the University of Pittsburgh, exemplified this approach. While these fields have recently witnessed a lot of activity and successes, many questions remain open. For example, Fields medalist Stephen Smale stated that the question of the existence of a strongly polynomial time algorithm for linear optimization is one of the most important unsolved problems at the beginning of the 21st century. The broad range of topics covered in this volume demonstrates the many recent and fruitful connections between different approaches, and features novel results and state-of-the-art surveys as well as open problems.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52424671592721,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52424672510225,"sku":"NLS9783319033129","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319033129.jpg?v=1759152608"},{"product_id":"infinite-dimensional-dynamical-systems-book-john-mallet-paret-9781489999931","title":"Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems","description":"This collection covers a wide range of topics of infinite dimensional dynamical systems generated by parabolic partial differential equations, hyperbolic partial differential equations, solitary equations, lattice differential equations, delay differential equations, and stochastic differential equations. Infinite dimensional dynamical systems are generated by evolutionary equations describing the evolutions in time of systems whose status must be depicted in infinite dimensional phase spaces. Studying the long-term behaviors of such systems is important in our understanding of their spatiotemporal pattern formation and global continuation, and has been among major sources of motivation and applications of new developments of nonlinear analysis and other mathematical theories. Theories of the infinite dimensional dynamical systems have also found more and more important applications in physical, chemical, and life sciences. This book collects 19 papers from 48 invited lecturers to the International Conference on Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems held at York University, Toronto, in September of 2008. As the conference was dedicated to Professor George Sell from University of Minnesota on the occasion of his 70th birthday, this collection reflects the pioneering work and influence of Professor Sell in a few core areas of dynamical systems, including non-autonomous dynamical systems, skew-product flows, invariant manifolds theory, infinite dimensional dynamical systems, approximation dynamics, and fluid flows.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52432224157969,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52432225960209,"sku":"NLS9781489999931","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781489999931.jpg?v=1759174603"},{"product_id":"blaschke-products-and-their-applications-book-javad-mashreghi-9781489990822","title":"Blaschke Products and Their Applications","description":"Blaschke Products and Their Applications presents a collection of survey articles that examine Blaschke products and several of its applications to fields such as approximation theory, differential equations, dynamical systems, harmonic analysis, to name a few.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52432238706961,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52432239296785,"sku":"NLS9781489990822","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781489990822.jpg?v=1759174629"},{"product_id":"corona-problem-book-ronald-g-douglas-9781493956012","title":"The Corona Problem","description":"The purpose of the corona workshop was to consider the corona problem in both one and several complex variables, both in the context of function theory and harmonic analysis as well as the context of operator theory and functional analysis.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52456234516753,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52456234975505,"sku":"NLS9781493956012","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781493956012.jpg?v=1759376721"},{"product_id":"lectures-and-surveys-on-g2-manifolds-and-related-topics-book-spiro-karigiannis-9781071605790","title":"Lectures and Surveys on G2-Manifolds and Related Topics","description":"This book, one of the first on G2 manifolds in decades, collects introductory lectures and survey articles largely based on talks given at a workshop held at the Fields Institute in August 2017, as part of the major thematic program on geometric analysis.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52475906523409,"sku":"NLS9781071605790","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781071605790.jpg?v=1759843242"},{"product_id":"recent-progress-and-modern-challenges-in-applied-mathematics-modeling-and-comput-book-roderick-melnik-9781493969685","title":"Recent Progress and Modern Challenges in Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computational Science","description":"This volume is an excellent resource for professionals in various areas of applications of mathematics, modeling, and computational science. The proof by Andrew Wiles (with Richard Taylor) of Fermat’s last theorem published in 1995 illustrates the high level of difficulty of problems encountered in number-theoretic research as well as the usefulness of the new ideas arising from its proof.  The thirteenth conference of the Canadian Number Theory Association was held at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from June 16 to 20, 2014. Ninety-nine talks were presented at the conference on the theme of advances in the theory of numbers. Topics of the talks reflected the diversity of current trends and activities in modern number theory. These topics included modular forms, hypergeometric functions, elliptic curves, distribution of prime numbers, diophantine equations, L-functions, Diophantine approximation, and many more. This volume contains some of the papers presented at the conference. All papers were refereed. The high quality of the articles and their contribution to current research directions make this volume a must for any mathematics library and is particularly relevant to researchers and graduate students with an interest in number theory. The readers will also discover the various open problems, enabling them to better pursue their own research.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52663648026897,"sku":"NLS9781461453406","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52749992001809,"sku":"NIN9781461453406","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781461453406.jpg?v=1762272540"},{"product_id":"discrete-geometry-and-optimization-book-antoine-deza-9783319001999","title":"Discrete Geometry and Optimization","description":"Optimization has long been a source of both inspiration and applications for geometers, and conversely, discrete and convex geometry have provided the foundations for many optimization techniques, leading to a rich interplay between these subjects.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52663708090641,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52663708746001,"sku":"NLS9783319001999","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319001999.jpg?v=1762272697"},{"product_id":"rigidity-and-symmetry-book-robert-connelly-9781493907809","title":"Rigidity and Symmetry","description":"This book contains recent contributions to the fields of rigidity and symmetry with two primary focuses: to present the mathematically rigorous treatment of rigidity of structures and to explore the interaction of geometry, algebra and combinatorics. Contributions present recent trends and advances in discrete geometry, particularly in the theory of polytopes. The rapid development of abstract polytope theory has resulted in a rich theory featuring an attractive interplay of methods and tools from discrete geometry, group theory, classical geometry, hyperbolic geometry and topology.  Overall, the book shows how researchers from diverse backgrounds explore connections among the various discrete structures with symmetry as the unifying theme. The volume will be a valuable source as an introduction to the ideas of both combinatorial and geometric rigidity theory and its applications, incorporating the surprising impact of symmetry. It will appeal to students at both the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as post docs, structural engineers and chemists.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52665138413841,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52665139134737,"sku":"NLS9781493907809","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781493907809.jpg?v=1762276512"},{"product_id":"toric-topology-and-polyhedral-products-book-anthony-bahri-9783031572036","title":"Toric Topology and Polyhedral Products","description":"This book explores toric topology, polyhedral products and related mathematics from a wide range of perspectives, collectively giving an overview of the potential of the areas while contributing original research to drive the subject forward in interesting new directions. Contributions to this volume were written in connection to the thematic program Toric Topology and Polyhedral Products held at the Fields Institute from January-June 2020. 16 original conributions were inspired or influenced by the program.  Toric Topology arose as a subject in its own right about twenty-five years ago. It sits at the intersection of commutative algebra, topology, combinatorics, algebraic geometry, and symplectic and convex geometry. Polyhedral products are a functorial generalization of a construction that is at the centre of Toric Topology. They are of independent interest and unify several constructions that arise in a diverse range of areas, such as geometric group theory, homotopy theory, algebraic combinatorics and subspace arrangements.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52674285371665,"sku":"NLS9783031572036","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783031572036.jpg?v=1762299191"},{"product_id":"infinite-dimensional-dynamical-systems-book-john-mallet-paret-9781461445227","title":"Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems","description":"This collection covers a wide range of topics of infinite dimensional dynamical systems generated by parabolic partial differential equations, hyperbolic partial differential equations, solitary equations, lattice differential equations, delay differential equations, and stochastic differential equations. Infinite dimensional dynamical systems are generated by evolutionary equations describing the evolutions in time of systems whose status must be depicted in infinite dimensional phase spaces. Studying the long-term behaviors of such systems is important in our understanding of their spatiotemporal pattern formation and global continuation, and has been among major sources of motivation and applications of new developments of nonlinear analysis and other mathematical theories. Theories of the infinite dimensional dynamical systems have also found more and more important applications in physical, chemical, and life sciences. This book collects 19 papers from 48 invited lecturers to the International Conference on Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems held at York University, Toronto, in September of 2008. As the conference was dedicated to Professor George Sell from University of Minnesota on the occasion of his 70th birthday, this collection reflects the pioneering work and influence of Professor Sell in a few core areas of dynamical systems, including non-autonomous dynamical systems, skew-product flows, invariant manifolds theory, infinite dimensional dynamical systems, approximation dynamics, and fluid flows.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52674340880657,"sku":"NLS9781461445227","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781461445227.jpg?v=1762299327"},{"product_id":"advances-in-applied-mathematics-modeling-and-computational-science-book-roderick-melnik-9781461453888","title":"Advances in Applied Mathematics, Modeling, and Computational Science","description":"The volume presents a selection of in-depth studies and state-of-the-art surveys of several challenging topics that are at the forefront of modern applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, and computational science. The deep geometric, probabilistic, and combinatorial methods developed here are used outside the field in many areas of mathematics and mathematical sciences. The Fields Institute Thematic Program in the Fall of 2010 continued an established tradition of previous large-scale programs devoted to the same general research direction. The main directions of the program included:      * Asymptotic theory of convexity and normed spaces      * Concentration of measure and isoperimetric inequalities, optimal transportation approach      * Applications of the concept of concentration      * Connections with transformation groups and Ramsey theory      * Geometrization of probability      * Random matrices      * Connection with asymptotic combinatorics and complexity theory      These directions are represented in this volume and reflect the present state of this important area of research. It will be of benefit to researchers working in a wide range of mathematical sciences—in particular functional analysis, combinatorics, convex geometry, dynamical systems, operator algebras, and computer science.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52674684387601,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52674685305105,"sku":"NLS9781461464051","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781461464051.jpg?v=1762300151"},{"product_id":"algebraic-monoids-group-embeddings-and-algebraic-combinatorics-book-mahir-can-9781493909377","title":"Algebraic Monoids, Group Embeddings, and Algebraic Combinatorics","description":"This book contains a collection of fifteen articles and is dedicated to the sixtieth birthdays of Lex Renner and Mohan Putcha, the pioneers of the field of algebraic monoids.  Topics presented include:  structure and representation theory of reductive algebraic monoids  monoid schemes and applications of monoids  monoids related to Lie theory  equivariant embeddings of algebraic groups  constructions and properties of monoids from algebraic combinatorics  endomorphism monoids induced from vector bundles  Hodge–Newton decompositions of reductive monoids  A portion of these articles are designed to serve as a self-contained introduction to these topics, while the remaining contributions are research articles containing previously unpublished results, which are sure to become very influential for future work. Among these, for example, the important recent work of Michel Brion and Lex Renner showing that the algebraic semi groups are strongly π-regular.  Graduate students as well as researchers working in the fields of algebraic (semi)group theory, algebraic combinatorics and the theory of algebraic group embeddings will benefit from this unique and broad compilation of some fundamental results in (semi)group theory, algebraic group embeddings and algebraic combinatorics merged under the umbrella of algebraic monoids.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52675820945681,"sku":"NLS9781493909377","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781493909377.jpg?v=1762302809"},{"product_id":"lectures-and-surveys-on-g2-manifolds-and-related-topics-book-spiro-karigiannis-9781071605769","title":"Lectures and Surveys on G2-Manifolds and Related Topics","description":"This book, one of the first on G2 manifolds in decades, collects introductory lectures and survey articles largely based on talks given at a workshop held at the Fields Institute in August 2017, as part of the major thematic program on geometric analysis. It provides an accessible introduction to various aspects of the geometry of G2 manifolds, including the construction of examples, as well as the intimate relations with calibrated geometry, Yang-Mills gauge theory, and geometric flows. It also features the inclusion of a survey on the new topological and analytic invariants of G2 manifolds that have been recently discovered.  The first half of the book, consisting of several introductory lectures, is aimed at experienced graduate students or early career researchers in geometry and topology who wish to familiarize themselves with this burgeoning field. The second half, consisting of numerous survey articles, is intended to be useful to both beginners and experts in the field.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52687439593745,"sku":"NLS9781071605769","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781071605769.jpg?v=1762330479"},{"product_id":"mathematics-of-public-health-book-v-kumar-murty-9783030850555","title":"Mathematics of Public Health","description":"Curated by the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences from their COVID-19 Math Modelling Seminars, this first in a series of volumes on the mathematics of public health allows readers to access the dominant ideas and techniques being used in this area, while indicating problems for further research.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52689390993681,"sku":"NLS9783030850555","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030850555.jpg?v=1762335217"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/fields-institute-communications-book-series.oembed?page=3","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
