The author uses ethnographic material to explore how the construction of ritual uses story-making and embodied action to empower women. Ritual, far from being a timeless and universal practice, is shown to be a contextual and gendered performance in which women subvert conventional distinctions of private and public. The book combines narrative and case study material and draws on feminist theology and theory, social anthropology and gender studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49583890399505,"sku":"GOR007256101","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51376331653393,"sku":"GOR014245426","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52613539528977,"sku":"NLS9781845534158","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1845534158.jpg?v=1752228973"},{"product_id":"elsie-chamberlain-book-alan-argent-9781845539313","title":"Elsie Chamberlain","description":"Elsie Chamberlain was a leading figure in British broadcasting and religious life. She was a pioneer in many areas: the first woman chaplain to the armed forces; the first nonconformist minister to marry an Anglican clergyman; the first woman producer in the religious broadcasting dept of the BBC and the first woman to present the daily service on the radio. Her broadcasting accustomed many listeners to the idea of a woman leading public worship. And she became the first woman to occupy the chair of the Congregational Union of England and Wales and almost certainly the first woman anywhere in the world to head a major denomination. Elsie Chamberlain is the first full biography and a critical appreciation of this exceptional woman. Using original church and BBC archive sources, the book tells the story of a woman who did more than any other to change the way Christian women ministers are viewed.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49639335821585,"sku":"GOR006276508","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50825940664593,"sku":"GOR008056504","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1845539311.jpg?v=1751185378"},{"product_id":"unconventional-wisdom-book-june-boyce-tillman-9781845531003","title":"Unconventional Wisdom","description":"Early Christianity saw women in positions of authority and a fluid theology that included feminine figures in the notion of the Divine. However, for centuries a male trinity has dominated theology with the characteristics of triumphalism, clarity, order, eternality and unity. 'Unconventional Wisdom' examines the attempt within the last half of the twentieth century to unearth the hidden theological tradition of feminine Wisdom. The book presents the work of influential theorists, notably Foucault, Belenky and Dorothy Smith. The recovery of the feminine in the divine is linked with the rediscovery of subjugated value systems and what this might mean for ecclesiology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49651679297809,"sku":"GOR012925375","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51118581580049,"sku":"GOR005292537","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1845531000.jpg?v=1751249130"},{"product_id":"god-and-difference-book-linn-marie-tonstad-9781138554542","title":"God and Difference","description":"God and Difference interlaces Christian theology with queer and feminist theory for both critical and constructive ends. Linn Marie Tonstad uses queer theory to show certain failures of Christian thinking about God, gender, and sexuality. She employs queer theory to dissect trinitarian discourse and the resonances found in contemporary Christian thought between sexual difference and difference within the trinity. Tonstad critiques a broad swath of prominent Christian theologians who either use queer theory in their work or affirm the validity of same-sex relationships, arguing that their work inadvertently promotes gendered hierarchy. This volume contributes to central debates in Christianity over divine and human personhood, gendered relationality, and the trinity, and provides original accounts of God, sexual difference, and Christian community that are both theologically rich and thoroughly queer.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50697378660625,"sku":"NGR9781138554542","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51421722411281,"sku":"CIN1138554545VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51766777512209,"sku":"CIN1138554545G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52481742405905,"sku":"NLS9781138554542","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138554545.jpg?v=1750951685"},{"product_id":"shame-the-church-and-the-regulation-of-female-sexuality-book-miryam-clough-9780367886530","title":"Shame, the Church and the Regulation of Female Sexuality","description":"Shame strikes at the heart of human individuals rupturing relationships, extinguishing joy and, at times, provoking conflict and violence. This book explores the idea that shame has historically been, and continues to be, used by an oftentimes patriarchal Christian Church as a mechanism to control and regulate female sexuality and to displace men’s ambivalence about sex. Using a study of Ireland’s Magdalen laundries as a historical example, contemporary feminist theological and theoretical scholarship are utilised to examine why the Church as an institution has routinely colluded with the shaming of individuals, and moreover why women are consistently and overtly shamed on account of, and indeed take the blame for, sex. In addition, the text asks whether the avoidance of shame is in fact functional in men’s efforts to adhere to patriarchal gender norms and religious ideals, and whether women end up paying the price for the maintenance of this system. This book is a fresh take on the issue of shame and gender in the context of religious belief and practice. As such it will be of significant interest to academics in the fields of Religious Studies, but also History, Psychology and Gender Studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50697615048977,"sku":"NGR9780367886530","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367886537.jpg?v=1751260200"},{"product_id":"indecent-theologies-of-marcella-althaus-reid-book-lisa-isherwood-9780367501914","title":"The Indecent Theologies of Marcella Althaus-Reid","description":"This book celebrates the legacy of theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid (1952‑2009), and her particular influence in Asia and South America. Contributors to this book succinctly investigate aspects of the vast work of Althaus-Reid by discussing issues of gender, race, and sexuality in Asia and South America, utilising the liberation, queer and indecent theologies she espoused. Each chapter demonstrates how her legacy is alive and thriving today, but also points towards to the potential future impact of her prolific theological output. However, it has also asserted the complementarity of 'normal' male and female physiology. 'Sex and Uncertainty in the Body of Christ' offers the first systematic theology of the intersexed body. The book analyses the theological implications of physical intersex conditions and their medical treatment. The medical assumption of what constitutes male and female bodies is shown to raise essential questions about the meaning of incarnation and bodiliness. The book argues for a theology that speaks to stigmatized and marginal bodies, examining the impact of such a theology on sex, marriage, sexuality, perfection, healing, and the resurrected body.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50904431984913,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50904432279825,"sku":"GOR005028433","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52384943898897,"sku":"NGR9781845536695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52434197348625,"sku":"NLS9781845536695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52756327563537,"sku":"NIN9781845536695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/184553669X.jpg?v=1750898547"},{"product_id":"lee-edelman-and-the-queer-study-of-religion-book-kent-l-brintnall-9780367313494","title":"Lee Edelman and the Queer Study of Religion","description":"This book takes the groundbreaking work of Lee Edelman in queer theory and, for the first time, demonstrates its importance and relevance to contemporary theology, biblical studies, and religious studies. It argues that despite extensive interest in Edelman’s work, we have barely begun to understand the significance of Edelman’s ideas both in their own right and with respect to the study of religion. Therefore, it offers fresh approaches to Edelman’s work that necessarily complicate the established interpretations of his thinking. With essays by rising and established scholars, as well as a response by Edelman himself, it contends that by fully engaging Edelman, scholars of religion will have to confront negativity and its consequences in ways that will contribute to reshaping the terrain of scholarship on religion, race, sexuality, and social change. The insights provided in this book are new territory for much of the study of religion. As such, it will be of keen interest to scholars of religious studies, theology, and Biblical studies, as well as gender studies and queer, feminist, and critical race theory.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51001458295057,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51001459933457,"sku":"NIN9780367313494","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52121036914961,"sku":"NLS9780367313494","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367313499.jpg?v=1750941984"},{"product_id":"unlocking-orthodoxies-for-inclusive-theologies-book-robert-e-shore-goss-9781032083155","title":"Unlocking Orthodoxies for Inclusive Theologies","description":"This book enters a new liminal space between the LGBTQ and denominational Christian communities. It simultaneously explores how those who identify as queer can find a home in church and how those leading welcoming, or indeed unwelcoming, congregations can better serve both communities. The primary argument is that queer inclusion must not merely mean an assimilation into existing heteronormative respectability and approval. Chapters are written by a diverse collection of Asian, Latin American, and U.S. theologians, religious studies scholars and activists. Each of them writes from their own social context to address the notion of LGBTQ alternative orthodoxies and praxes pertaining to God, the saints, failure of the church, queer eschatologies, and erotic economies. Engaging with issues that are not only faced by those in the theological academy, but also by clergy and congregants, the book addresses those impacted by a history of Christian hostility and violence who have become suspicious of attempts at \"acceptance\". It also sets out an encouragement for queer theologians and clergy think deeply about how they form communities where queer perspectives are proactively included. This is a forward-looking and positive vision of a more inclusive theology and ecclesiology. It will, therefore, appeal to scholars of Queer Theology and Religious Studies as well as practitioners seeking a fresh perspective on church and the LGBTQ community.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51017146925329,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51017149186321,"sku":"NIN9781032083155","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52422659342609,"sku":"NLS9781032083155","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032083158.jpg?v=1751111225"},{"product_id":"numen-old-men-book-joseph-gelfer-9781845534196","title":"Numen, Old Men","description":"Since the early 1990s there have been various movements designed to encourage 'masculine spirituality'. All these movements share a concern that spirituality has become too feminine and that men's experiences of the spiritual are being marginalized. The task of masculine spirituality is to promote 'authentic' masculine characteristics within a spiritual context. Numen, Old Men examines these characteristics to argue that masculine spirituality is thinly veiled patriarchy. The mythopoetic, evangelical, and Catholic men's movements are shown to promote a hetero-patriarchal spirituality by appealing to either combative and oppressive neo-Jungian archetypes or biblical models of man as the leader of the family. Numen, Old Men examines spiritualities that aim to honour and transcend both the masculine and feminine, and offers gay spirituality as an example of masculine spirituality that resists patriarchy.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51053798981905,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51053801472273,"sku":"NIN9781845534196","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52485509644561,"sku":"NLS9781845534196","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1845534190.jpg?v=1750898547"},{"product_id":"spirituality-of-anorexia-book-emma-white-9780367589578","title":"The Spirituality of Anorexia","description":"Widely popularized images of unobtainable and damaging feminine ideals can be a cause of profound disjunction between women and their bodies. A consequence of this dissonance is an embodied performance of these ideals with the potential development of disordered eating practices, such as anorexia nervosa. This book develops a spirituality of anorexia by suggesting that these eating disorders are physical symptoms of the general repression of feminine nature in our culture. Furthermore, it puts forward Goddess feminism as a framework for a healing therapeutic model to address anorexia and more broadly, the \"slender ideal\" touted by society. The book focuses on the female body in contemporary society, specifically the development of anorexia nervosa, and what this expression communicates about female embodiment. Drawing upon the work of a variety of theorists, social commentators, liberation theologians and thealogians, it discusses the benefits of adopting female-focused myths, symbols and rituals, drawing upon the work of Marion Woodman and Naomi Goldenberg. Ultimately, it theorises a thealogical approach to anorexia aimed at displacing the damaging discourses that undermine women in the twenty-first century. Offering an alternative model of spirituality and embodiment for contemporary women, this book will be of keen interest to scholars of theology, religious studies, gender studies and psychology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51110615384337,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51110617841937,"sku":"NIN9780367589578","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52531879510289,"sku":"NLS9780367589578","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367589575.jpg?v=1751324598"},{"product_id":"christian-goddess-spirituality-book-mary-ann-beavis-9781138936881","title":"Christian Goddess Spirituality","description":"This monograph focuses on \"Christian Goddess Spirituality\" (CGS), the phenomenon of (mostly) women who combine Christianity and Goddess Spirituality, including Wicca\/Witchcraft. Mary Ann Beavis’s study provides ethnographic data and analysis on the lived religious experience of CGS practitioners, drawing on interviews of over 100 women who self-identify as combining Christianity and Goddess spirituality. Although CGS also has implications for Goddess Spirituality and related traditions (e.g., Neopaganism, Wicca), here, CGS is considered primarily as a phenomenon within Christianity. However, the study also shows that the fusion of Christian and Goddess spiritualties has had an impact on non-Christian feminist spirituality, since Goddess-worshippers have often constructed Christianity as the diametrical opposite and enemy of the Goddess, to the point that some refuse to admit the possibility that CGS is a valid spiritual path, or that it is even possible. In addition, biblical, Jewish and Christian images of the divine such as Sophia, Shekhinah, the Virgin Mary, and even Mary Magdalene, have found their way into the \"Pagan\" Goddess pantheon. The main themes of the study include: overlaps and differences between Christian feminist theology and CGS; the routes to CGS for individual practitioners, and their beliefs, practices and experiences; proto-denominational classifications (\"spiritual paths\") within CGS; CGS thealogy (Christian discourse about the female divine); and the future of CGS in social scientific and ecclesiological context. On the basis of a critical analysis of current theory and practice in RE the authors argue that this educational framing is no longer plausible in the light of new theoretical developments within the academy. A new educational approach to RE is outlined that challenges students to think and practice differently. This includes a ‘becoming ethnographer’ approach that can acknowledge socio-material relations and engage the broader literacies necessary for such study. Part One examines how RE has been constructed as a discipline in historical and spatial terms that abstract its study from material concerns. Part Two offers some new starting points: Spinoza, Foucault and feminist theory that differently foreground context and relationality, and 'Islam' read as a discursive, located tradition rather than as 'world view'. Finally, Part Three proposes a new trajectory for research and practice in RE, with the aim of re-engaging schools, colleges and universities in a dialogue that promotes thinking and practice that – as educational - is continually in touch with the need to be critical, open-ended and ethically justifiable.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51195876901137,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51195880046865,"sku":"NIN9780367876685","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52533181219089,"sku":"NLS9780367876685","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/036787668X.jpg?v=1751228583"},{"product_id":"theology-of-incarnation-from-within-dis-abled-minds-book-christopher-newell-9781138737419","title":"A Theology of Incarnation from Within Dis-Abled Minds","description":"Too frequently, theology has addressed issues of mental health from a largely pastoral and detached observational perspective. This book asks whether the model of an embodied and experiential theology of disability, championed by theologians such as Nancy Eiesland, can more powerfully and insightfully apply to those who are described as suffering from severe and enduring mental health problems. A Theology of Incarnation from Within Dis-Abled Minds is an auto-ethnographic journey into a question that is both deeply personal and theo-therapeutic. Utilising the author's own experiences, it explores whether there can be an applied theology, rooted in the living 'tradition' of feminist and queer theology, that begins to question classical definitions of the 'sane' and 'insane'. Can certain contemporary theological models of chaos, in creation and cosmology, offer a valorised place for those whose psycho-chaos is usually deemed to be of little value in western capitalist economies, except as the recipients of 'professional compassion'? This book offers a transgressive theology of healing and wellbeing based on radical feminist Christological understanding which speaks as much of anger, chaos, and resistance as it does of peace, healing or reconciliation. Therefore, it will be of keen interest to scholars of Religion and Theology, as well as those working in Psychiatry, Mental Health and Disability Studies.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51201357316369,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51201359020305,"sku":"NGR9781138737419","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1138737410.jpg?v=1751016484"},{"product_id":"new-religions-and-the-mediation-of-non-monogamy-book-michelle-mueller-9780367186906","title":"New Religions and the Mediation of Non-Monogamy","description":"New Religions and the Mediation of Non-Monogamy examines the relationship between alternative American religions and the media representation of non-monogamies on reality-TV shows like Sister Wives, Seeking Sister Wife, and Polyamory: Married \u0026amp; Dating. It reads the women’s liberation movement as founded upon a philosophically and emotionally risky attempt to liberate women’s consciousness from a three-fold cognitive captivity to the self-idolizing god called ‘Man’; the ‘God’ who is a projection of his power, and the idol of the feminine called ‘Woman’ that the god-called-God created for ‘Man’. Examining a period of feminist theory, theology, and culture from about 1965 to 2010, this book shows that secular, as well as Christian, Jewish, and post-Christian feminists drew on ancient and modern tropes of redemption from slavery to idols or false ideas as a means of overcoming the alienation of women’s being from their own becoming. With an understanding of feminist theology as a pivotal contribution to the feminist criticism of culture, this original book also examines idoloclasm in feminist visual art, literature, direct action, and theory, not least that of the sexual politics of romantic love, the diet and beauty industry, sex robots, and other phenomena whose idolization of women reduces them to figures of the feminine same, experienced as a de-realization or death of the self. This book demonstrates that secular and religious feminist critical engagements with the modern trauma of dehumanization were far more closely related than is often supposed. As such, it will be vital reading for scholars in theology, religious studies, gender studies, visual studies, and philosophy.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51274495688977,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51274498310417,"sku":"NIN9780367786892","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52431113322769,"sku":"NLS9780367786892","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367786893.jpg?v=1751324855"},{"product_id":"contemporary-feminist-theologies-book-kerrie-handasyde-9780367698904","title":"Contemporary Feminist Theologies","description":"This book explores the issues of power, authority and love with current concerns in the Christian theological exploration of feminism and feminist theology. Where some theologies wrestle for clarity of definition, feminist and other theologies of liberation begin from experience and tend towards story as a vehicle for speaking of the Divine. Ambiguity and precision both find their place. This collection embraces different materials to explore the place of stories and narrative within feminist theology, to explore how meaning ‘happens’, to seek justice, and to forge compassion. As for theology, so too with form. This volume does not just discuss but actively demonstrates a variety of ways in which stories can be heard and held. Between and within chapters, the authors weave together artwork, literature, creative non-fiction, and poetic form with critically informed and academic exposition to invite reflection on the place of story in creating solidarity and enabling community. The book contributes to scholarly conversations on feminist theological method, on the relationship between the arts and theology, and on the dialogue between secular and sacred in Australasia and elsewhere.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51597762691345,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51597762920721,"sku":"NGR9781032908212","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52327234076945,"sku":"NLS9781032908212","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52725049852177,"sku":"NIN9781032908212","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032908211.jpg?v=1755774646"},{"product_id":"mapping-new-terrain-in-queer-religious-scholarship-book-bernard-s-schlager-9781032743653","title":"Mapping New Terrain in Queer Religious Scholarship","description":"Mapping New Terrain in Queer Religious Scholarship builds upon the work and legacy of Professor John Boswell, bringing together contributions that were delivered at the annual CLGS Boswell Lecture Series at Pacific School of Religion, USA. As such, it will be of keen interest to scholars of religious studies, theology, and Biblical studies, as well as gender studies and queer, feminist, and critical race theory.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51630958280977,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51630958510353,"sku":"NGR9780367335496","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52531333300497,"sku":"NLS9780367335496","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0367335492.jpg?v=1750845073"},{"product_id":"being-the-body-of-christ-book-chris-mounsey-9781138110625","title":"Being the Body of Christ","description":"The book explores the preoccupation of key twentieth-century English writers with theology and sexuality and how the Anglican Church has responded and continues to respond to the issue of homosexuality. Across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, we are witnessing the emergence of queer faith-based communities in very different contexts and with very different histories. The perspectives included in the book form a tapestry that honors diversity among the Global South’s queer communities and ministries. They demonstrate the various ways in which queer ministry challenges and changes theological understanding as well as religious practice. Each chapter highlights issues pertaining to liturgy, sacraments, pastoral rites, and the personal faith journey that each minister underwent to foster pastoral queer theologies. Contributors focus on their understanding of the relationship between faith and sexuality, how rituals relate to the daily lives of queer believers, and the struggles they face within the political structures of religious institutions. The narratives highlight some of the challenges and mechanisms deployed to cope with ingrained LGBTIQ+ phobia. They also evidence how communities enact interreligious and multi-religious dialog and rituals while honoring faith and activism, and how prophetic ministries counter oppressive discourses and colonial performativities. This is a valuable resource for academics and religious leaders interested in the study of queer theologies, Asian, African, and Latin American Christianity, as well as ecclesiastical and liturgical issues.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52125427400977,"sku":"NLS9781032372433","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781032372433.jpg?v=1757465089"},{"product_id":"living-out-sexuality-and-faith-book-joseph-n-goh-9781138305441","title":"Living Out Sexuality and Faith","description":"Sexuality, religion and faith often have complex and conflicting interactions, on both personal and societal levels. Numerous studies have been conducted on queer subjects, but they have predominantly focused on ‘Western’ expressions of faith and queer identities. This book contributes to the wider scholarship on queer subjects by drawing on actual lived experiences of self-identifying gay and bisexual men in Malaysia. It discusses what we can learn from the realities of their lives that intersect with their religious, spiritual, theological or humanistic values in an Asian context. Analysed within the critical frameworks of queer theory and queer sexual theology, this study divulges the meanings ascribed to sexual identities and practices, as well as conceptualisations of masculinity, sexual desire, love and intimate physical connections. It also lays bare the complex negotiations between gender, desire and spirit, and how they can affect one another. But, despite this widespread dissatisfaction, traditional power relations have hardly changed over the last century. Catholics, Conflicts and Choices presents detailed interviews with lay people, priests, Sisters, and Christian Brothers, each discussing their personal struggles with church teachings and practices. The conversations are selected to illustrate different experiences of power relations - particularly different aspects of gender dynamics - within the organisational structures of the Church. The interviews are examined within a framework of feminist, sociological and psychological theory. Catholics, Conflicts and Choices reveals how, despite a long history of challenging official notions of authority and obedience and assumptions about intimate relationships, there is little potential for change if the established power relations of the Church are not confronted.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52422786908433,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52422787399953,"sku":"NLS9781138380134","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138380134.jpg?v=1759149058"},{"product_id":"searching-for-the-holy-spirit-book-anne-claar-thomasson-rosingh-9781844658138","title":"Searching for the Holy Spirit","description":"Is the doctrine of the Holy Spirit in Christian theology good news or bad news for women? Is the Holy Spirit in traditional Christian doctrine the guardian of the status quo or does it offer the dynamic possibility for change? How do the gifts of the Spirit, ecstatic and relational, inform feminist thinking of the Christian God. Opinions on these key questions vary wildly but are often formulated without coherent theological argument. Feminist theology has a history of questioning God the Father and God the Son - this study begins the theological questioning of God the Holy Spirit. Yet, whilst the ultimate concern of public theology is the well-being of society, this body of theology has largely developed without integrating the thinking of feminist theology and its insights into womens' lives and experience. Public Theology and the Challenge of Feminism argues that public theology risks re-inscribing traditional constructs of public and private, civic and domestic, and uncritical notions of gender and the work and worth of people. Finally, Part Three proposes a new trajectory for research and practice in RE, with the aim of re-engaging schools, colleges and universities in a dialogue that promotes thinking and practice that – as educational - is continually in touch with the need to be critical, open-ended and ethically justifiable.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52476423962897,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52476425437457,"sku":"NLS9781138184695","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138184695.jpg?v=1759844041"},{"product_id":"queer-ministers-voices-from-the-global-south-book-lisa-isherwood-9781032391816","title":"Queer Ministers’ Voices from the Global South","description":"This book brings together the narratives of diverse ministers from the Global South in order to show that queer theologies are impacting many parts of the world and queer lives are molding and enriching Christian ministry. This is a valuable resource for academics and religious leaders interested in the study of queer theologies, Asian, African, and Latin American Christianity, as well as ecclesiastical and liturgical issues.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52594921439505,"sku":"NLS9781032391816","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52745735864593,"sku":"NIN9781032391816","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781032391816.jpg?v=1761141831"},{"product_id":"religion-feminism-and-idoloclasm-book-melissa-raphael-9781138710078","title":"Religion, Feminism, and Idoloclasm","description":"Examining a period of feminist theory, theology, and culture from about 1965 to 2010, this book shows that secular, as well as Christian, Jewish, and post-Christian feminists drew on ancient and modern tropes of redemption from slavery to idols or false ideas as a means of overcoming the alienation of womens being from their own becoming.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52614299287825,"sku":"NLS9781138710078","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138710078.jpg?v=1761520827"},{"product_id":"god-and-difference-book-linn-marie-tonstad-9781138938038","title":"God and Difference","description":"God and Difference interlaces Christian theology with queer and feminist theory for both critical and constructive ends. This volume contributes to central debates in Christianity over divine and human personhood, gendered relationality, and the trinity, and provides original accounts of God, sexual difference, and Christian community that are both theologically rich and thoroughly queer.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52618564731153,"sku":"NLS9781138938038","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53014346727697,"sku":"NIN9781138938038","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138938038.jpg?v=1761533491"},{"product_id":"searching-for-the-holy-spirit-book-anne-claar-thomasson-rosingh-9781138546271","title":"Searching for the Holy Spirit","description":"Is the doctrine of the Holy Spirit in Christian theology good news or bad news for women? Is the Holy Spirit in traditional Christian doctrine the guardian of the status quo or does it offer the dynamic possibility for change? How do the gifts of the Spirit, ecstatic and relational, inform feminist thinking of the Christian God. Opinions on these key questions vary wildly but are often formulated without coherent theological argument. Feminist theology has a history of questioning God the Father and God the Son - this study begins the theological questioning of God the Holy Spirit. Searching for the Holy Spirit brings feminist pneumatology into discussion with more traditional doctrine of the Spirit, notably the very significant early Christian treatise by Basil of Caesarea, De Spiritu Sancto. The results offer exciting new possibilities for both theology and the place of women in the church.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52668362424593,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52668363211025,"sku":"NLS9781138546271","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781138546271.jpg?v=1762284826"},{"product_id":"public-theology-and-the-challenge-of-feminism-book-stephen-burns-9781844658008","title":"Public Theology and the Challenge of Feminism","description":"Public Theology is a rapidly growing international field of study which focuses on how Christian belief and practice engage with wider social issues. The book brings together both theory and case material to expose how public theology has actively downplayed or ignored feminist perspectives and to reveal how constructive feminism can be for the future of public theology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52683257970961,"sku":"NLS9781844658008","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781844658008.jpg?v=1762320203"},{"product_id":"being-the-body-of-christ-book-chris-mounsey-9781845539511","title":"Being the Body of Christ","description":"The book explores the preoccupation of key twentieth-century English writers with theology and sexuality and how the Anglican Church has responded and continues to respond to the issue of homosexuality. It considers the issue of objectification faced by women within Christian religion and makes a theological case for the pursuit of selfhood, as understood in an existentialist ontology, which is not selfish or individualistic. For many Christian women, there is arguably a belief that relationship with God requires a form of selflessness in which their self must be abnegated in order to embody faithful Christian living. The author explores how self-realisation could function as a remedy for objectification and allow women to truly Be in relationship with God. Firstly, Simone de Beauvoir's work on objectification and women's situation establishes a foundation for considering the importance of self-realisation and the possibility of this as a relational, not individualistic, framework. Then, considered with Kathryn Tanner's work on divine transcendence and immanence, relationship with God can be considered as something which does not overwhelm human particularity, but rather is the place where the self is encouraged and empowered to fully Be. Finally, practices of kenosis and story-telling are offered as avenues for the abnegation of objectification and the realisation of the self in relationship with others and with God. Ultimately, this volume shows that the self is no longer something to lose or hide in dependence on an Other, there is no longer an imperative to be objectified, but, rather, there is an encouragement to self-realisation as part of a faithful relationship with God. This book will be of particular interest to scholars of feminist theology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52823506583825,"sku":"NGR9781041134879","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53476069015825,"sku":"NLS9781041134879","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781041134879.jpg?v=1773314269"},{"product_id":"women-and-reiki-book-judith-macpherson-9781845531539","title":"Women and Reiki","description":"This book is the first ethnographic study of reiki, energetic healing and dowsing in the British context. Overall, the book argues that if we are to build up an accurate and comprehensive picture of healing thought and practice, we must locate gender, representation and power as central elements of this project throughout. For to date, even though women healers predominate at the grass roots level in both local and international contexts, this key issue has been largely ignored in most academic studies of 'New Age' and alternative spiritualities - a major oversight. The narrative of women's power and consciousness of healing can be located in the debates between largely male dominated biomedical approaches to health and the apparently more egalitarian holistic discourses and practices (e.g. mind, body and spirit).","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53563536179473,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53563536736529,"sku":"NLS9781845531539","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781845531539.jpg?v=1779270350"},{"product_id":"mapping-new-terrain-in-queer-religious-scholarship-book-bernard-s-schlager-9781032771816","title":"Mapping New Terrain in Queer Religious Scholarship","description":"Mapping New Terrain in Queer Religious Scholarship builds upon the work and legacy of Professor John Boswell, bringing together contributions that were delivered at the annual CLGS Boswell Lecture Series at Pacific School of Religion, USA.
