The book brings together, for the first time, the results of some of the main projects carried out in recent decades from off-site records providing a fresh perspective for the understanding of historical landscapes. The papers evaluate the 'manure hypothesis' and other variables that have influenced the formation of pottery carpets in several territories of the Ebro and Douro basins. The record is interpreted through critical integration with other historical, ethnographic and archaeological evidence. In thematic terms, the processes of early medieval colonization, the transformation of rural societies between the Roman and medieval periods, the agency of subaltern groups, the transformations of agrarian practices from a social perspective, and the morphology of agrarian landscapes from prehistory to the contemporary age are analysed. In addition, singularities in off-site records in non-Mediterranean spaces are considered. In summary, this volume introduces new topics, concepts and case studies useful for developing a multiproxy agrarian archaeology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49745819435281,"sku":"NGR9781803274355","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1803274352.jpg?v=1750833693"},{"product_id":"arqueologia-de-las-sociedades-locales-en-la-alta-edad-media-book-juan-antonio-quirs-castillo-9781803274911","title":"Arqueologia de las sociedades locales en la Alta Edad Media","description":"En este volumen se presentan los principales resultados obtenidos en el proyecto arqueologico de San Julian de Aistra (Zalduondo-Araia, Alava) ejecutado entre los anos 2006 y 2020 por la University College London y la Universidad del Pais Vasco. En el despoblado de Aistra, documentado desde el siglo XI, se conservan los restos de una ermita dedicada a Santa Julian y Santa Basilisa construida en el siglo X, reformada en epoca romanica y en el siglo XVIII. La excavacion ha mostrado que el lugar estuvo ocupado en epoca prehistorica, romana y medieval. Mientras que los materiales prehistoricos y romanos han sido recuperados en contextos secundarios, se han definido cuatro fases medievales de caracter domestico, productivo y funerario. Uno de los resultados mas importantes del proyecto ha sido el hallazgo de espacios residenciales de elites que han ejercido un dominio territorial a lo largo de toda la Alta Edad Media. En el siglo XIV el lugar ya estaba despoblado y, desde entonces, el termino de Aistra ha sido gestionado y disputado por los cercanos pueblos de Zalduondo y Araia que, al efecto, se han constituido en una comunidad destinada a gestionar de forma mancomunada los recursos y los espacios del despoblado. Esta comunidad, activa entre los siglos XIV y XX, se quebro a partir del siglo XIX, cuando se acentuo la gestion individual de estos recursos y se produjo el reparto de los montes. Este volumen coral reune un amplio numero de estudios especializados y proporciona una interpretacion del lugar de Aistra en terminos de practicas sociopoliticas que definen las principales caracteristicas de las sociedades locales altomedievales del noroeste peninsular.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49745994940689,"sku":"NGR9781803274911","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1803274913.jpg?v=1751026648"},{"product_id":"people-and-agrarian-landscapes-an-archaeology-of-postclassical-local-societies-i-book-josu-narbarte-hernandez-9781803274379","title":"People and Agrarian Landscapes: An Archaeology of Postclassical Local Societies in the Western Mediterranean","description":"People and Agrarian Landscapes aims to offer the reader a series of keys to understand why agrarian archaeology has become one of the most dynamic, experimental, and innovative sectors of the discipline in southern Europe, providing an overview of the driving theories, methodologies and main topics that have been addressed to date. In this way, the text is presented as an introduction for students, a critical reading guide for other scholars, and an informative instrument aimed at a wide audience. Most of the results of agrarian archaeology are to be found in highly specialized journals and venues that are not always easily accessible, and thus the volume presents the works, tools, and conceptual frameworks that have been developed by some of the main research groups active in the south of Western Europe to study rural societies throughout history, considering the materiality of agricultural activities.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50464033800465,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":50464035635473,"sku":"NGR9781803274379","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1803274379.jpg?v=1750833693"},{"product_id":"memorias-bajo-los-vinedos-arqueologia-y-paisaje-historico-en-rioja-alavesa-book-juan-antonio-quirs-castillo-9781805831198","title":"Memorias bajo los viñedos: Arqueología y paisaje histórico en Rioja Alavesa","description":"What lies beneath the landscapes of the La Rioja vineyards?         This book invites us to discover the deep history of a territory that we today associate with wine, tradition, and scenery. Through an ambitious archaeological and multidisciplinary investigation at the Torrentejo site, a team of specialists has followed the traces of the communities that, over more than five thousand years, shaped this land: from the earliest prehistoric settlements to the recent processes of wine industry industrialization. But this is not just a journey into the past. It is also a critical reflection on the present: on how we select, interpret, and transform landscapes to turn them into heritage.         Which memories are preserved and which are lost? What social and historical costs does the heritage-making of the territory entail?         A work that reveals the hidden layers of Rioja Alavesa, and that forces us to rethink how we inhabit, remember, and represent our landscapes.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52604367667473,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52604367733009,"sku":"NGR9781805831198","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781805831198.jpg?v=1763118349"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/historical-archaeologies-series-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
