Crumpling, crushing, and stitching them into different compositions, large panels are pieced together to form massive abstract fields of colour, shape and line. The work builds on Anatsui’s interest in histories of encounter and the migration of goods and people during the transatlantic slave trade.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49744754835729,"sku":"NGR9781849768610","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50157156925713,"sku":"GOR013874228","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849768617.jpg?v=1761731219"},{"product_id":"tania-bruguera-book-catherine-wood-9781849766401","title":"Tania Bruguera","description":"Since Tate Modern opened in 2000, the Turbine Hall has hosted some of the world's most memorable and acclaimed works of contemporary art, reaching an audience of millions. The way artists have interpreted this vast industrial space has revolutionised public perceptions of contemporary art in the twenty-first century. The annual Hyundai Commission, now in its fourth year, gives artists an opportunity to create new work for this unique context. In 2018 the Hyundai Commission will be undertaken by a Cuban installation and performance artist, Tania Bruguera (b.1968), who is world-renowned for her complex and absorbing performance pieces. Bruguera's work often pivots around issues of authority, power and control, and several of her past works have interrogated and re-presented events in Cuban history. For this new installation Bruguera will be exploring the vitally contemporary issue of immigration and examining how that expands into notions of community and `the neighbourly'.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50454848798993,"sku":"GOR013958972","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50470318178577,"sku":"GOR009863962","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849766401.jpg?v=1761731910"},{"product_id":"mire-lee-book-alvin-li-9781849769594","title":"Mire Lee","description":"Mire Lee is known for her visceral sculptures, which use kinetic, mechanised elements to invoke the tension between soft forms and rigid systems. Open Wound, her new site-specific work, is a monumental installation that re-imagines Tate Modern as an industrial womb. Reflecting on the building’s former life as a power station, Open Wound presents the Turbine Hall as a living factory, finding human dreams and desires in sprawling mechanical systems.   Lee populates the space with ‘skins’, fabric sculptures that hang from the ceiling on metal chains. A motorised turbine slowly spins, discharging a viscous liquid from flesh-like silicone tentacles into a large tray. Throughout the exhibition, the skins are moved by technicians to harden on nearby racks before being hauled into the air. Over time they accumulate, birthed from the body of the building while appearing to shed from the ceiling above. For Lee, the complex histories of industry are awe-inspiring in their violence and scale. Her work considers the physical and emotional labour of people living in times of precarity and decline, ‘witnessing a human, an individual life, getting caught in a larger system’.  In this book, two inspiring new essays and a conversation between the artist and the curators cast light on the full range of Lee’s artistic influences and unique point of view. Together they serve as an introduction to one of today’s most intriguing and original contemporary artists.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51216167174417,"sku":"NGR9781849769594","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51224734859537,"sku":"GOR014202433","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1849769591.jpg?v=1775728640"},{"product_id":"superflex-book-donald-hyslop-9781849764667","title":"SUPERFLEX","description":"Since Tate Modern opened in 2000, the Turbine Hall has hosted some of the world's most memorable and acclaimed works of contemporary art, reaching an audience of millions. The way artists have interpreted this vast industrial space has revolutionised public perceptions of contemporary art in the twenty-first century. The annual Hyundai Commission, now in its third year, gives artists an opportunity to create new work for this unique context. In 2017 the Hyundai Commission will be undertaken by the Danish collective SUPERFLEX, known for their interests in unifying urban spaces and commenting on society with authenticity through art. Migration, alternative energy and the power of global capital are just some of the motives behind their highly engaging, visual and often humorous work. They are best known for their playfully subversive installations and films. Referring to their works as tools, the collective engage alternative models for the creation of social and economic organisation. SUPERFLEX was founded in 1993 by Danish artists Bjornstjerne Christiansen, Jakob Fenger and Rasmus Nielsen. Based in Copenhagen, they have gained international recognition for their projects and solo exhibitions around the world and are represented in several public art institutions, such as MoMA, New York; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark; FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais; and Coleccion Jumex, Mexico City. Created in close collaboration with SUPERFLEX, the book will feature a fully illustrated survey of their work and an in-depth conversation between the artists and curator Donald Hyslop. Exploring in fascinating detail the artistic processes involved in creating this exciting new work, it will include stunning photographs of the dramatic new installation to be revealed in the Turbine Hall in October 2017.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52960272023825,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52960272220433,"sku":"GOR010387150","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781849764667.jpg?v=1766311261"},{"product_id":"maret-anne-sara-book-helen-o-malley-9781917055185","title":"Maret Anne Sara","description":"Published to accompany her first major exhibition in the UK, this monograph explores the contemplative practice of Maret Anne Sara  a member of a Sami reindeer-herding family whose work highlights ecological issues both local and global.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53458224120081,"sku":"GOR014931251","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53460687290641,"sku":"GOR014932058","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781917055185.jpg?v=1777033298"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/hyundai-commission-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
