Wavell, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East; the dispatch on operations in the Middle East February 1941 to July 1941, by General Sir Archibald P. Wavell, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East; operations in the Middle East July 1941 to October 1941, by General Sir Claude J. E. Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East; operations in the Middle East November 1941 to August 1942, by General Sir Claude J.E. Auchinleck; Operations in Middle East 16 February 1943 to 8 January 1944 by General Maitland Wilson.This unique collection of original documents will prove to be an invaluable resource for historians, students and all those interested in what was one of the most significant periods in British military history.REVIEWS Grehan and Mace present for the first time a collection of unabridged despatches from operations covering Tobruk, Crete, Syria, and East Africa. The Middle East Command was formed in August 1939, under General Sir Archibald Wavell, who assembled a multinational force when Italy declared war on France and Britain in 1940. Wavell s mixed force faced over 200,000 Italian troops in Libya and over 200,000 in Italian East Africa. Outnumbered, he went on the offensive. His first and second dispatches describe his operations in the Western Desert. The third covers British support for Greece and the defence and withdrawal from Crete. The last two are from General Auchinleck and provide a detailed account of the operations in Libya. Grehan and Mace reproduce the despatches as they first appeared some 70 years ago, unedited and unmodified. This is the core question of this volume. Its chapters map narratives of Europe rooted in East Europe, as they circulate in phenomenological philosophy, news journalism, social movements, literary texts, visual art and popular music. Whereas debate and research on European identity is normally conducted in self-congratulatory terms by core institutions in the centre, the focus here is on how Europeanness is narrated in one of its most dynamic regions: Eastern Europe. A closer scrutiny of how such East European narratives critically rework inherited conceptions reveals a range of strategies for interpreting European identity in this transitory phase of history. We only have to look at the colourful and compelling plays of Matilda, Annie and Cinderella to realise that there is a surge in plays for the youth of today. Playwriting and Young Audiences helps to fill this gap by offering a comprehensive guide to developing subjects for young people through the use of both practical and critical advice from playwrights on all aspects of new play development.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49763030040849,"sku":"CIN0439317193G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50855938556177,"sku":"CIN0439317193VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0439317193.jpg?v=1751039570"},{"product_id":"get-lost-book-john-peterson-9780439425001","title":"Get Lost","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49938449269009,"sku":"CIN043942500XG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50420991459601,"sku":"CIN043942500XVG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/043942500X.jpg?v=1786111072"},{"product_id":"littles-go-around-the-world-book-john-slater-peterson-9780439203005","title":"The Littles Go Around the World","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49993322561809,"sku":"CIN0439203007VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50292066058513,"sku":"CIN0439203007A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52103906132241,"sku":"CIN0439203007G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0439203007.jpg?v=1751292999"},{"product_id":"littles-first-readers-01-book-john-slater-peterson-9780439203012","title":"Littles First Readers #01","description":"Major General Orde Wingate (1903-1944) was the most controversial British military commander of the Second World War, and perhaps of the last hundred years. He splits opinion among soldiers, academics and writers seven decades after his death. His exploits in Ethiopia and Burma, in particular his creation of the Chindits, special forces who were trained to use guerrilla tactics behind the Japanese lines, have made him into a key figure in the history of irregular warfare. But, as Simon Anglim reveals in this thought-provoking and insightful study, myths and misunderstandings tend to cloud understanding of Wingate's career, and he seeks to put the record straight. He bases his work on a major study of Wingate's official and private papers, and those of his contemporaries, and he aims to provide the definitive guide to Wingate as a military commander.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50033140597009,"sku":"CIN0439203015VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50113944617233,"sku":"CIN0439203015A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51436802605329,"sku":"GOR011015921","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52103908262161,"sku":"CIN0439203015G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ LIKE_NEW \/ SBYB","offer_id":52967879442705,"sku":"CIN0439203015LN","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0439203015.jpg?v=1750910253"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/littles-first-readers-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
