It was very helpful to have all those comments sug gesting improvements and corrections. In many cases, it was suggested that more aspects on quantum information would be welcome. Unfortunately, I am afraid that an attempt to cover such a broad area as quantum informa tion theory would make this book too scattered to be helpful for educational purposes. On the other hand, ladmit that some aspects of quantum information should be discussed. The first edition already contained the so-called No Cloning Theorem. In this edition, I have added a stronger version of the aforementioned theorem due to R. Jozsa, a variant which also covers the no-deleting principle. Moreover, in this edition, I have added some famous protocols, such as quantum teleportation. The response to the first edition strongly supports the idea that the main function of this book should be educational, and I have not included furt her aspects of quantum information theory here. For further reading, I suggest [43] by Josef Gruska and [62] by Michael A. Nielsen and Isaac L. Chuang. Chapter 1, especially Section 1.4, includes the most basic knowledge for the presentation of quantum systems relevant to quantum computation. The basic properties of quantum information are introduced in Chapter 2. This chapter also includes interesting protocols: quantum teleportation and superdense coding.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49534826610961,"sku":"GOR009322295","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52128194724113,"sku":"NLS9783540407041","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3540407049.jpg?v=1753686214"},{"product_id":"introduction-to-metaheuristics-for-optimization-book-bastien-chopard-9783319930725","title":"An Introduction to Metaheuristics for Optimization","description":"The authors stress the relative simplicity, efficiency, flexibility of use, and suitability of various approaches used to solve difficult optimization problems. Both these areas have become increas ingly popular in the last few years, and their integration is currently an area of active research. In essence, data mining consists of extracting valid, comprehensible, and in teresting knowledge from data. Data mining is actually an interdisciplinary field, since there are many kinds of methods that can be used to extract knowledge from data. Arguably, data mining mainly uses methods from machine learning (a branch of artificial intelligence) and statistics (including statistical pattern recog nition). Our discussion of data mining and evolutionary algorithms is primarily based on machine learning concepts and principles. In particular, in this book we emphasize the importance of discovering comprehensible, interesting knowledge, which the user can potentially use to make intelligent decisions. In a nutshell, the motivation for applying evolutionary algorithms to data mining is that evolutionary algorithms are robust search methods which perform a global search in the space of candidate solutions (rules or another form of knowl edge representation). In contrast, most rule induction methods perform a local, greedy search in the space of candidate rules. Intuitively, the global search of evolutionary algorithms can discover interesting rules and patterns that would be missed by the greedy search.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50396907241745,"sku":"CIN3540433317G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148121698577,"sku":"NLS9783540433316","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3540433317.jpg?v=1750967728"},{"product_id":"cartesian-genetic-programming-book-julian-f-miller-9783642173097","title":"Cartesian Genetic Programming","description":"Cartesian Genetic Programming (CGP) is a highly effective and increasingly popular form of genetic programming. Moreover, the models need to represent the basic stoichiometry, with balanced che- cal reactions and the conservation of mass, energy and charge. The authors discuss the stoichiometric and then kinetic details of approaches to modelling and simulation of biochemical systems. P. R. A. Campos et al. are concerned with models of evolution and adaptation (which is essential for precise - derstanding of molecular phylogeny). In particular, their paper is concerned with the rate of adaptation of asexual organisms(which is important because it in?uences the speed of the assumed molecular clock). It is known that for such organisms the rate of adaptation does not steadily increase with the - creasing rate of advantageous mutations, and this paper studies the mutual interference of two advantageous mutants that are each initially present in only a single organism.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52144320577809,"sku":"NLS9783540407997","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540407997.jpg?v=1757588370"},{"product_id":"deep-statistical-comparison-for-meta-heuristic-stochastic-optimization-algorithm-book-tome-eftimov-9783030969165","title":"Deep Statistical Comparison for Meta-heuristic Stochastic Optimization Algorithms","description":"Focusing on comprehensive comparisons of the performance of stochastic optimization algorithms, this book provides an overview of the current approaches used to analyze algorithm performance in a range of common scenarios, while also addressing issues that are often overlooked. In turn, it shows how these issues can be easily avoided by applying the principles that have produced Deep Statistical Comparison and its variants. This book introduces a multipath routing algorithm for packet-switched telecommunication networks based on techniques observed in bee colonies. The algorithm, BeeHive, is dynamic, simple, efficient, robust and flexible, and it represents an important step towards intelligent networks that optimally manage resources. The author guides the reader in a survey of nature-inspired routing protocols and communication techniques observed in insect colonies. He then offers the design of a scalable framework for nature-inspired routing algorithms, and he examines a practical application using real networks of Linux routers. He also utilizes formal techniques to analytically model the performance of nature-inspired routing algorithms. In the last chapters of the book, he introduces an immune-inspired security framework for nature-inspired algorithms, and uses the wisdom of the hive for routing in ad hoc and sensor networks. Finally, the author provides a comprehensive bibliography to serve as a reference for nature-inspired solutions to networking problems. This book bridges the gap between natural computing and computer networking. What sets this book apart from other texts on this subject is its natural engineering approach in which the challenges and objectives of a real-world system are identified before its solution, nature-inspired or otherwise, is discussed. The book then describes theoretical results on three important questions in evolutionary computation: how to profit from changing the parameters during the run of an algorithm; how evolutionary algorithms cope with dynamically changing or stochastic environments; and how population diversity influencesperformance. Finally, the book looks at three algorithm classes that have only recently become the focus of theoretical work: estimation-of-distribution algorithms; artificial immune systems; and genetic programming. Despite the success of EAs, the resultant solutions are often fragile and prone to failure when the problem changes, usually requiring human intervention to keep the EA on track. Since many optimization problems in engineering, finance, and information technology require systems that can adapt to changes over time, it is desirable that EAs be able to respond to changes in the environment on their own. This book provides an analysis of what an EA needs to do to automatically and continuously solve dynamic problems, focusing on detecting changes in the problem environment and responding to those changes. In this book we identify and quantify a key attribute needed to improve the detection and response performance of EAs in dynamic environments. We then create an enhanced EA, designed explicitly to exploit this new understanding. This enhanced EA is shown to have superior performance on some types of problems. Our experiments evaluating this enhanced EA indicate some pre- viously unknown relationships between performance and diversity that may lead to general methods for improving EAs in dynamic environments. Along the way, several other important design issues are addressed involving com- putational efficiency, performance measurement, and the testing of EAs in dynamic environments.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52348343517457,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52348347285777,"sku":"NLS9783540212317","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540212317.jpg?v=1758178265"},{"product_id":"art-of-artificial-evolution-book-juan-j-romero-9783642436666","title":"The Art of Artificial Evolution","description":"Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world. The field of membrane computing was initiated in 1998 by the author of this book; it is a branch of natural computing inspired by the structure and functioning of the living cell and devises distributed parallel computing models in the form of membrane systems, also called P systems. This book is the first monograph surveying the new field in a systematic and coherent way. It presents the central notions and results: the main classes of P systems, the main results about their computational power and efficiency, a complete bibliography, and a series of open problems and research topics. Thus, the book is indispensible reading for anybody interested in molecular computing.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52409654378769,"sku":"NLS9783642628337","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642628337.jpg?v=1758775468"},{"product_id":"computation-in-cells-and-tissues-book-r-paton-9783642055690","title":"Computation in Cells and Tissues","description":"The field of biologically inspired computation has coexisted with mainstream computing since the 1930s, and the pioneers in this area include Warren McCulloch, Walter Pitts, Robert Rosen, Otto Schmitt, Alan Turing, John von Neumann and Norbert Wiener. Based on the author’s extensive research into the synergies between various approaches to artificial intelligence including evolutionary computation, artificial neural networks, and systems biology, it also examines the inherent links between biological intelligence and artificial intelligence.     The book begins with an introduction to computational algorithms used to understand and simulate biological evolution and development, including evolutionary algorithms, gene regulatory network models, multi-cellular models for neural and morphological development, and computational models of neural plasticity. Chap. 2 discusses important properties of biological gene regulatory systems, including network motifs, network connectivity, robustness and evolvability. Going a step further, Chap. 3 presents methods for synthesizing regulatory motifs from scratch and creating more complex regulatory dynamics by combining basic regulatory motifs using evolutionary algorithms. Multi-cellular growth models, which can be used to simulate either neural or morphological development, are presented in Chapters 4 and 5. Chap. 6 examines the synergies and coupling between neural and morphological evolution and development. In turn, Chap. 7 provides preliminary yet promising examples of how evolutionary developmental systems can help in self-organized pattern generation, referred to as morphogenetic self-organization, highlighting the great potentials of evolutionary developmental systems. Finally, Chap. 8 rounds out the book, stressing the importance and promise of the evolutionary developmental approach to artificial intelligence. Featuring a wealth of diagrams, graphs and charts to aid in comprehension, this book offers a valuable asset for graduate students, researchers and practitioners who are interested in pursuing a different approach to artificial intelligence.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52418461106449,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418461630737,"sku":"NGR9789819918560","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789819918560.jpg?v=1758929241"},{"product_id":"optimising-the-software-development-process-with-artificial-intelligence-book-inmaculada-medinabulo-9789811999505","title":"Optimising the Software Development Process with Artificial Intelligence","description":"This book offers a practical introduction to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to improve and optimise the various phases of the software development process, from the initial project planning to the latest deployment. The field recognizes that real-life problems often involve trying to balance a multiplicity of considerations simultaneously – such as performance, cost, risk, sustainability, and quality. The field develops theory, methods and tools that can support decision makers in finding appropriate solutions when faced with many (typically more than three) such criteria at the same time.     The book consists of two parts: key research topics, and emerging topics. Part I begins with a general introduction to many-criteria optimization, perspectives from research leaders in real-world problems, and a contemporary survey of the attributes of problems of this kind. This part continues with chapters on fundamental aspects of many-criteria optimization, namely on order relations, quality measures, benchmarking, visualization, and theoretical considerations. Part II offers more specialized chapters on correlated objectives, heterogeneous objectives, Bayesian optimization, and game theory. Written by leading experts across the field of many-criteria optimization, this book will be an essential resource for researchers in the fields of evolutionary computing, operations research, multiobjective optimization, and decision science.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52418607841553,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418608365841,"sku":"NGR9783031252655","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}]},{"product_id":"design-of-modern-heuristics-book-franz-rothlauf-9783540729617","title":"Design of Modern Heuristics","description":"Most textbooks on modern heuristics provide the reader with detailed descriptions of the functionality of single examples like genetic algorithms, genetic programming, tabu search, simulated annealing, and others, but fail to teach the underlying concepts behind these different approaches. The author takes a different approach in this textbook by focusing on the users' needs and answering three fundamental questions: First, he tells us which problems modern heuristics are expected to perform well on, and which should be left to traditional optimization methods. Second, he teaches us to systematically design the \"right\" modern heuristic for a particular problem by providing a coherent view on design elements and working principles. Third, he shows how we can make use of problem-specific knowledge for the design of efficient and effective modern heuristics that solve not only small toy problems but also perform well on large real-world problems. This book is written in an easy-to-read style and it is aimed at students and practitioners in computer science, operations research and information systems who want to understand modern heuristics and are interested in a guide to their systematic design and use. Most existing optimization methods are designed for locating a single global solution. However, in real-world settings, many problems are “multimodal” by nature, i.e., multiple satisfactory solutions exist. It may be desirable to locate several such solutions before deciding which one to use. Multimodal optimization has been the subject of intense study in the field of population-based meta-heuristic algorithms, e.g., evolutionary algorithms (EAs), for the past few decades. These multimodal optimization techniques are commonly referred to as “niching” methods, because of the nature-inspired “niching” effect that is induced to the solution population targeting at multiple optima. Many niching methods have been developed in the EA community. Some classic examples include crowding, fitness sharing, clearing, derating, restricted tournament selection, speciation, etc.Nevertheless, applying these niching methods to real-world multimodal problems often encounters significant challenges. To facilitate the advance of niching methods in facing these challenges, this edited book highlights the latest developments in niching methods. The included chapters touch on algorithmic improvements and developments, representation, and visualization issues, as well as new research directions, such as preference incorporation in decision making and new application areas. This edited book is a first of this kind specifically on the topic of niching techniques. This book will serve as a valuable reference book both for researchers and practitioners. Although chapters are written in a mutually independent way, Chapter 1 will help novice readers get an overview of the field. It describes the development of the field and its current state and provides a comparative analysis of the IEEE CEC and ACM GECCO niching competitions of recent years, followed by a collection of open research questions and possible research directions that may be tackled in the future.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52452430217489,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52452430643473,"sku":"NLS9783030795559","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030795559.jpg?v=1759364706"},{"product_id":"theoretical-and-experimental-dna-computation-book-martyn-amos-9783642085048","title":"Theoretical and Experimental DNA Computation","description":"This book provides a broad overview of the entire field of DNA computation, tracing its history and development.
