Additionally, Greece offers a remarkable geological museum, reflecting the complex history of the area over the last 300 million years. By studying the rocks of Greece, one can discover old oceanic basins, e.g. in the Northern Pindos and Othrys mountains, crystalline rocks of Palaeozoic age, old granitic and volcanic rocks, as well as other sedimentary rocks including fossils from the shallow neritic facies to pelagic and abyssal facies. The younger sediments demonstrate the continuously changing palaeogeography of Greece, with areas of lakes, high plateaus and gulfs that are transformed into new forms of islands, peninsulas or high mountains, etc. All the above subjects are included in the book, which describes the tectonic structure of the geological strata, together with the evolutionary stages of the palaeogeography and geodynamics within the broader Mediterranean context. Georesources include fossil energy, geothermal energy, deep aquifers, minerals and deposits. This book also provides key information for energy resources in these important areas. The book is in part a compilation of selected papers from Atlas Georesources International Congress, Hammamet, Tunisia, (AGIC 2017) which were extended after the congress in addition to other contributions from geoscientists based at some universities and companies from the region. It is organized in a set of research studies focusing on the architecture, geodynamic evolution and modeling of sedimentary basins in the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean domain. Future developments in the exploration for water, energy and other georesources are very important in these regions. In this context, thisbook constitutes an important reference for a wide range of geoscientists and companies as it defines the distribution and potentialities of these resources.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51061895037201,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51061898150161,"sku":"NIN9783031187469","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3031187466.jpg?v=1750966685"},{"product_id":"geology-of-greece-book-dimitrios-i-papanikolaou-9783030607333","title":"The Geology of Greece","description":"This book introduces the reader to the unique geology of Greece. Its respective chapters discuss the structural geology, geophysical methods, igneous processes, metamorphic petrology and metallogeny.    The mapping and modeling are based on satellite data and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), so the mapping ranges from continental to crystalline scale and the ages range from 3.2 Ga to the recent Cenozoic. Further, various types of commercial and open source software (partially developed by the authors) were used. A brief critical analysis is made of the increase in the degree of geological knowledge of the country since the elaboration of the Geological Sketch of the Cuban Island at a scale of 1: 2 000 000 (Fernández de Castro, 1883), first of Cuba and of Ibero-America, until the most recent Digital Geological Map of Cuba at scale 1: 100 000 (Pérez Aragón, 2016). Cuba and its surroundings are a geological mosaic in the southeast corner of the North American plate with rocks from many different origins, from Proterozoic to Quaternary, extended along the southern border of the plate. From the Eocene, this belt has been dissected by several great faults, related to the development of some great oceanic depressions (Cayman trough and Yucatan basin). The fossil record of Cuba, which covers approximately the last 200 million years of life on Earth, is rich in very varied fossils, witnessing a wide diversity of organisms, both animals and plants, that inhabited the Antillean and Caribbean region; and that constitute the inheritance of the biological diversity that the current Cuban archipelago exhibits. As a result of the preparation of the Cuban Metallogenic Map at scale 1: 250 000, forty-one models and eight sub-models of metallic mineral deposits were identified. These models, of descriptive–genetic type, together with the analysis of their spatial distribution and their relationship with geology, allowed the identification and mapping of ten mineral systems, linked to the geodynamic environments present in the Cuban territory. Cuba has large deposits of limestone, loam, dolomite, kaolin, gypsum and anhydrite, rock salt, marbles, sands and clays of different types, zeolites, peat, therapeutic peloids and many more. Thereare manifestations of decorative and precious rocks such as jasper, jadeite, different varieties of quartz and even xylopals. A compilation of geochemical data of oceanic basalt samples from previous works, together with data of analyzed samples during this study in order to discuss geochemical criteria based on immobile element (proxies for fractionation indices, alkalinity, mantle flow and subduction addition), provide a comprehensive ophiolite classification according to their tectonic setting. This book addresses different facets of the geological knowledge of Cuba: history of its cartography, marine geology, fossil record, stratigraphy, tectonics, classification of its ophiolites, quaternary deposits, metallogeny and minerageny.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52349487448337,"sku":"NLS9783030678005","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52508051243281,"sku":"GOR012760566","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030678005.jpg?v=1758179338"},{"product_id":"geology-of-southwest-gondwana-book-siegfried-siegesmund-9783319886824","title":"Geology of Southwest Gondwana","description":"This book focuses on the geological evolution of Southwest (SW) Gondwana and presents state-of-the-art insights into its evolution.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52418411495697,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52418412249361,"sku":"NGR9783319886824","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319886824.jpg?v=1758929111"},{"product_id":"geology-of-afar-east-africa-book-jacques-varet-9783319869469","title":"Geology of Afar (East Africa)","description":"This book summarizes the geological knowledge accumulated on Afar in the last 60 years, demonstrating that it is, and will remain, a real “hot spot” for geological and geophysical research. It provides insights into the Earth processes along diverging plate boundaries, the study of both the continental and oceanic lithosphere and   underlying asthenosphere, and margins and transitions including magmatic, volcanic, tectonic, sedimentary, hydrothermal and geodynamic processes. Cratons, as the oldest, differentiated and relatively stable pieces of the continental lithosphere, preserve a substantial part of the Earth's memory. Orogenic belts, on the other hand, record collisional processes that occurred during a limited time span. Because of their topographic relief, mountain belts developed along craton margins provide however access to rock successions not exposed in the low lands of the adjacent cratons. The combination of geologic information obtained in cratonic domains and their marginal orogenic belts thus form the basis for deciphering substantial periods of Earth’s history.  Corresponding to the most intensively studied portion of the Precambrian nucleus of the South American plate, the São Francisco craton and its margins host a rock record that spans from the Paleoarchean to the Cenozoic. Precambrian sedimentary successions that witness ancient Earth processes - many of them of global significance - are especially well preserved and exposed in this region. With all these attributes the São Francisco craton together with its fringing orogenic belts can be viewed as a ‘continent within a continent’ or a ‘continent in miniature’.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52500735459601,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52500736246033,"sku":"NGR9783319017143","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319017143.jpg?v=1760138782"},{"product_id":"geology-of-hungary-book-jans-haas-9783642219092","title":"Geology of Hungary","description":"Hungary lies in the central part of the Pannonian Basin, surrounded by the ranges of the Alps, Carpathians, and Dinarides. The geology of the country can be summarized as a process whereby complicated plate collision-type orogeny was followed by the formation of a young basin in which a relatively complete sequence of basin infill has been preserved. The handbook Geology of Hungary presents an outline of the main features of the geology and geohistory of the region in a single volume, illustrated by a great number of color figures and photos for the benefit of foreign geoscientists interested in this area. The volume follows the evolutionary history of the major structural units prior to their juxtaposition in the Tertiary and discusses the subsequent evolution of the Pannonian Basin. Due to the geohistorical approach to this study it was necessary to extend the scope of the discussion beyond the present-day political boundaries of Hungary, to cover most of the Pannonian region.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52500848247057,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52500848804113,"sku":"NGR9783642219092","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642219092.jpg?v=1760139045"},{"product_id":"geosciences-of-azerbaijan-book-akif-a-alizadeh-9783319821177","title":"Geosciences of Azerbaijan","description":"This book provides a review of Azerbaijan’s water reserves and main economic deposits (both hydrocarbon and hard) and describes the integrated application of geophysical methods (land, airborne, shipborne and satellite) for studying near-surface and environmental features and regional tectonic-geophysical zonation as well as the study of deep structures in the search for hydrocarbon and hard (polymetallic, copper, gold-bearing, iron-ore, magnetite, etc.) deposits.  It particularly focuses on the geophysical examination of seismic activity in the region related to the interaction of the Afro-Arabian and Eurasian lithospheric plates.    It is aimed at scientists, engineers and students interested in the commercial potential of Azerbaijan’s deposits and the application of different geophysical methodologies (gravity, magnetic, seismic, thermal, electric, electromagnetic, etc.) for analyzing mud volcanism, identifying subsurface structures (including the analysis of hydrogeological problems, the examination of past climates and archaeological inspection) revealing the deep tectono-structural peculiarities of the region under study, mining and oil \u0026amp; gas geophysics, development of 3D physical-geological models and advanced seismological prognosis.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52500884095249,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52500884848913,"sku":"NGR9783319821177","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319821177.jpg?v=1760139133"},{"product_id":"sao-francisco-craton-eastern-brazil-book-monica-heilbron-9783319791302","title":"Sao Francisco Craton, Eastern Brazil","description":"The region of the Sao Francisco river valley in eastern Brazil encompasses two main components of the geologic framework of the South American continent: the Sao Francisco craton and its marginal orogenic belts.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52535218012433,"sku":"NLS9783319791302","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319791302.jpg?v=1760670600"},{"product_id":"geology-of-hungary-book-jans-haas-9783662520888","title":"Geology of Hungary","description":"Hungary lies in the central part of the Pannonian Basin, surrounded by the ranges of the Alps, Carpathians, and Dinarides. This work contributes to the recognition of the platform basement, which remains weekly investigated worldwide, despite it encompassing the surfaces of cratons. It presents a methodological example of systematic studies of the covered platform basement, integrating petrological, geochemical, isotopic, and geophysical methods, as well as geological mapping, in order to present comprehensive geological picture of the subject matter. In a systematic and summarized form, factual data and intellectual material acquired by researchers are combined. Important papers and industrial reports (also written in Russian and Lithuanian) make this information accessible for both local and international scientists and practitioners and stimulate the advertising, application, and augmentation of this knowledge","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52853888680209,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52853888712977,"sku":"NGR9783030968571","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}]},{"product_id":"geology-of-iberia-a-geodynamic-approach-book-cecilio-quesada-9783030103972","title":"The Geology of Iberia: A Geodynamic Approach","description":"Pursuing a new global approach, this unique book provides an updated review of the geology of Iberia and its continental margins from a geodynamic perspective. Owing to its location close to successive plate margins, Iberia has played a pivotal role in the geodynamic evolution of the Gondwanan, Rheic, Pangea, Tethys s.l. and Eurasian plates over the last 600 Ma of Earth’s history. The geological record begins with the amalgamation of Gondwana in the Neoproterozoic, followed by the rifting and spread of the Rheic ocean; its demise, which led to the amalgamation of Pangea in the late Paleozoic; the rifting and spread of several arms of the Neotethys ocean in the Mesozoic Era; and concludes with their ongoing closure, which was responsible for the Alpine orogeny. The significant advances made in the past 20 years have attracted considerable international research interest in the geology of the Iberian Peninsula.  This volume focuses in the Cadomian orogenic cycle and the oldest geological records in the Iberian Peninsula.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53339130102033,"sku":"NGR9783030103972","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030103972.jpg?v=1774394983"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/regional-geology-reviews-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
