A special focus is given to radio- and microwave frequency regions. Within the five interconnected chapters, the author reviews the electromagnetic waves interaction with water, ice, and moist substances, discussing the microscopic mechanisms behind the dielectric responses. Well-established classic views concerning the structure of water and ice are considered along with new approaches related to atomic and molecular dynamics. Particular attention is given to nanofluidics, atmospheric science, and electrochemistry. The mathematical apparatus, based on diverse approaches employed in condensed matter physics, is widely used and allows the reader to quantitatively describe the electrodynamic response of water and ice in both bulk and confined states. This book is intended for a wide audience covering physicists, electrochemists, geophysicists, engineers, biophysicists, and general scientists who work on the electromagnetic radiation interaction with water and moist substances.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51066043564305,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51066045956369,"sku":"NIN9783030724238","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52590298497297,"sku":"NLS9783030724238","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/3030724239.jpg?v=1751317330"},{"product_id":"symmetry-representations-of-molecular-vibrations-book-ma-wahab-9789811928017","title":"Symmetry Representations of Molecular Vibrations","description":"This book presents a comprehensive theoretical basis of symmetry representations of molecular vibrations, matrix representation of symmetries, and the elements of group theory that are relevant to other symmetry elements\/operations, crystallographic and molecular point groups. The book helps understand the reducible and irreducible representations of symmetry matrices and then derive the normal modes of vibration of different molecules by using suitable techniques independently. Targeted to graduate students and researchers, this book aims not only to derive the normal modes of vibration of any given molecule themselves but also compares and verifies them with the experimentally found modes by using IR and Raman-related techniques. For the first time in the crystallographic history, this book presents the group multiplication tables of all 32 point groups in both international and Schoenflies notations.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51067759788305,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51067761033489,"sku":"NIN9789811928017","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52148317716753,"sku":"NLS9789811928017","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9811928010.jpg?v=1751352137"},{"product_id":"free-energy-calculations-book-christophe-chipot-9783540736172","title":"Free Energy Calculations","description":"Free energy constitutes the most important thermodynamic quantity to understand how chemical species recognize each other, associate or react. It deals not only with the well developed methods of selective spectroscopy of molecular ensembles such as spectral hole-burning, fluorescence line-narrowing and femtosecond photon echoes, but also new methods of nanospectroscopy such as single-molecule spectroscopy. Both the- ory and experimental data are discussed. Theory united with experimental data enables one to organize the experimental facts. This organization is of great importance, especially for young researchers and students, because it can provide better insight into the nature of the rather complicated dynamics of guest molecules in polymers and glasses, where our understanding is still somewhat lacking. The book mainly addresses young researchers and graduate students studying modern methods of spectroscopy of solid solutions. For this rea- son, all formulas commonly used in practice are derived in this book. The reader will also find new approaches and formulas which have been used by the author, but are not well known to the majority researchers. When the derivation of a formula seems rather complicated, it is included in appendix. The reader is then free to look the derivation up if he or she is interested. Oth- erwise, the book can be read without reference to these sections. The book includes many examples where theory helps us to interpret experimental data of various types, for instance, the data on line- and hole-broadening.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52125510172945,"sku":"NLS9783540441014","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52761660490001,"sku":"NIN9783540441014","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540441014.jpg?v=1757466028"},{"product_id":"gas-phase-photoprocesses-book-anatoly-pravilov-9783030655693","title":"Gas-Phase Photoprocesses","description":"This book provides details of the basic frameworks and characteristics of processes occurring in electronically excited states of small molecules, complexes, and clusters.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52129264107793,"sku":"NLS9783030655693","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030655693.jpg?v=1757495741"},{"product_id":"electromigration-techniques-book-boguslaw-buszewski-9783642431203","title":"Electromigration Techniques","description":"The book provides the broad knowledge on electromigration techniques including: theory of CE, description of instrumentation, theory and practice in micellar electrokinetic chromatography, isotachophoresis, capillary isoelectric focusing, capillary and planar electrochromatography (including description of instrumentation and packed and monolithic column preparation), 2D-gel electrophoresis (including sample preparation) and lab-on-a-chip systems. The development of reliable, meaningful solutions for the energy eigenfunctions of these many- is a formidable problem. The usual approach for obtaining particle systems the eigenfunctions is based on their variational extremum property of the expectation values of the energy. However the complexity of these variational solutions does not allow a transparent, compact description of the physical structure. There are some properties of the wave functions in some specific, spatial domains, which depend on the general structure of the Schrodinger equation and the electromagnetic potential. These properties provide very useful guidelines in developing simple and accurate solutions for the wave functions of these systems, and provide significant insight into their physical structure. This point, though of considerable importance, has not received adequate attention. Here we present a description of the local properties of the wave functions of a collection of particles, in particular the asymptotic properties when one of the particles is far away from the others. The asymptotic behaviour of this wave function depends primarily on the separation energy of the outmost particle. The universal significance of the asymptotic behaviour of the wave functions should be appreciated at both research and pedagogic levels. This is the main aim of our presentation here.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52135351550225,"sku":"NLS9783540672401","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52761670123793,"sku":"NIN9783540672401","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540672401.jpg?v=1757548598"},{"product_id":"chemical-bond-book-tadamasa-shida-9783540206385","title":"The Chemical Bond","description":"Providing the quantum-mechanical foundations of chemical bonding, this unique textbook emphasizes key concepts such as superposition, degeneracy of states and the role of the electron spin. This is mainly because the theoretical limit is approaching in the present silicon-based technology, and the development of an alternative process is strongly desired. Single-molecule electronics is aimed at a breakthrough toward the next generation of computing systems. By designing and synthesizing highly functionalized molecules of nanometer size and incorporating these molecules into electrical circuits, we shall obtain much dense and high-speed processors. The concept of single-molecule electronics was first introduced by Aviram and Ratnar in 1978. In the early 1980s, many groups all over the world had started research on molecular electronics. At that time, single-molecule manipulation techniques had not been born, and the research was mainly carried out on molecular films formed by the Langmuir Blodgett technique, a wet process, and by molecular-beam epitaxy, a dry process. A number of prototypes of switching devices and logic gates were, however, reported in the 1980s. In the early 1990s, scanning probe microscopes became popular and researchers obtained a single-molecule manipulation and evaluation tech- nique. It became possible to fabricate practical devices using single molecules or small numbers of molecules. Finally, at the end of the last century, an explosion in the research field of single-molecule electronics was witnessed. In addition, studies of biocomputing started in the early 1980s and significant progress was achieved in the last century.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52139296391441,"sku":"NLS9783540441359","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540441359.jpg?v=1757568312"},{"product_id":"reference-data-on-atoms-molecules-and-ions-book-aa-radzig-9783642820502","title":"Reference Data on Atoms, Molecules, and Ions","description":"This reference book contains information about the structure and properties of atomic and molecular particles, as well as some of the nuclear parameters. The enthusiasm of the paticipants, the originality and quality of the papers that they presented, and the beautiful conference site combined to produce a very successful and enjoyable meeting. Progress was reported in the technology of generating ultrashort pulses, in- cluding new techniques for improving laser-pulse duration, output power, wave- length range, and compactness. Ultrafast spectroscopy continues to impact on and expand the knowledge base of fundamental processes in physics, chemistry, biol- ogy and engineering. In addition ultrafast phenomena now extends to real-world applications in biology, high-speed communication, and material diagnostics. The Tenth Ultrafast Phenomena Conference was highlighted by a 'special event' in which the developments of the previous conferences were reviewed in a panel discussion by G. Mourou, E. Ippen, A. Migus, A. Laubereau and R. Hochstrasser.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52141707165969,"sku":"NLS9783642803161","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642803161.jpg?v=1757577939"},{"product_id":"fluorescence-correlation-spectroscopy-book-r-rigler-9783642640186","title":"Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy","description":"This book presents the theoretical background to fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and a variety of applications in various fields of science. Its high spatial and temporal resolution has made FCS a powerful tool for the analysis of molecular interactions and kinetics, transport properties due to thermal motion and flow, as well as the physics of the excited state in solution as well as at the cellular level. The subject has been developed for systems at equilibrium for the past 150 years. The story is di?erent for systems not at equilibrium, either time-dependent systems or systems in non-equilibrium stationary states; here much less has been done, even though the need for this subject has much wider applicability. We have been interested in, and studied, systems far from equilibrium for 40 years and present here some aspects of theory and experiments on three topics: Part I deals with formulation of thermodynamics of systems far from equilibrium, including connections to ?uctuations, with applications to n- equilibrium stationary states and approaches to such states, systems with multiple stationary states, reaction di?usion systems, transport properties, andelectrochemicalsystems. Experimentsto substantiatethe formulationare also given. In Part II, dissipation and e?ciency in autonomous and externally forced reactions, including several biochemical systems, are explained. Part III explains stochastic theory and ?uctuations in systems far from equilibrium, ?uctuation-dissipation relations, including disordered systems. We concentrate on a coherent presentation of our work and make conn- tions to related or alternative approaches by other investigators. There is no attempt of a literature survey of this ?eld. We hope that this book will help and interest chemists, physicists, b- chemists, and chemical and mechanical engineers. The goal of ISIS was outlined in the first ISIS publication: We recognize that the International Summer Institute in Surface Science should foster mutual understanding and interaction among theorists and experimentalists in the various areas of surface science. Progress can be achieved only when we occasionally peek over the fence into neighboring areas, not so much to amuse ourselves that the grass is greener on the other side as to learn from their progress and, perhaps equally fruitfully, from their limitations and setbacks. In addition, it is an important task in any field of science to assess, take count of what is done and, what is more important, to point in future directions. Since the foundation of ISIS in 1973, the invited speakers - internation- ally recognized experts in their area of specialization - have been asked to write review articles too. This is the main aim of our presentation here.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52330941939985,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52330942464273,"sku":"NLS9783642631375","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642631375.jpg?v=1758146891"},{"product_id":"exafs-and-near-edge-structure-book-a-bianconi-9783642501005","title":"EXAFS and Near Edge Structure","description":"The field of X-ray spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation is growing so rapidly and expanding into such different research areas that it is now diffi- cult to keep up with the literature. EXAFS and XANES are becoming interdis- ciplinary methods used in solid-state physics, biology, and chemistry, and are making impressive contributions to these branches of science. The present book gives a panorama of the research activity in this field. It contains the papers presented at the International Conference on EXAFS and Near Edge Structure held in Frascati, Italy, September 13-17, 1982. This was the first international conference devoted to EXAFS spectroscopy (Extended X-ray Ab- sorption Fine Structure) and its applications. The other topic of the con- ference was the new XANES (X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure), which in of experimental and theoretical developments finally appears to have terms left its infancy. The applications of EXAFS concern the determination of local structures in complex systems; we have therefore divided the subject matter into differ- ent parts on various types of materials: amorphous metals, glasses, solu- tions, biological systems, catalysts, and special crystals such as mixed valence systems and ionic conductors. EXAFS provides unique information for each kind of system, but the analysis of EXAFS data also poses special prob- lems in each case. General problems of EXAFS data analysis are discussed, as well as developments in instrumentation for X-ray absorption using syn- chrotron radiation and laboratory EXAFS.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52331100111121,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52331100700945,"sku":"NLS9783642501005","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642501005.jpg?v=1758147345"},{"product_id":"picosecond-phenomena-iii-book-kb-eisenthal-9783642878664","title":"Picosecond Phenomena III","description":"The third international conference devoted to picosecond phenomena was held June 16-18, 1982 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany. The present volume, based on a May 2005 workshop, examines and reviews the state-of-the-art in the development of new theoretical and computational methods to interpret the observed phenomena. Emphasis is on complex molecular processes involving surfaces, clusters, solute-solvent systems, materials, and biological systems. The research summarized in this book shows that much can be done to explain phenomena in systems excited by light or through atomic interactions. It demonstrates how to tackle the multidimensional dynamics arising from the atomic structure of a complex system, and addresses phenomena in condensed phases as well as phenomena at surfaces. The chapters on new methodological developments cover both phenomena in isolated systems, and phenomena which involve the statistical effects of an environment, such as fluctuations and dissipation. The methodology part explores new rigorous ways to formulate mixed quantum-classical dynamics in many dimensions, along with new ways to solve a many-atom Schroedinger equation, or the Liouville-von Neumann equation for the density operator, using trajectories and ideas related to hydrodynamics. Sooner or later, we expect this book to be introduced into graduate studies and then into undergraduate studies, and hope that the book will serve the purpose.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52401936531729,"sku":"NLS9783540745549","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783540745549.jpg?v=1758756231"},{"product_id":"solid-base-catalysis-book-yoshio-ono-9783642183386","title":"Solid Base Catalysis","description":"The importance of solid base catalysts has come to be recognized for their environmentally benign qualities, and much significant progress has been made over the past two decades in catalytic materials and solid base-catalyzed reactions. The book is focused on the solid base. Because of the advantages over liquid bases, the use of solid base catalysts in organic synthesis is expanding. Solid bases are easier to dispose than liquid bases, separation and recovery of products, catalysts and solvents are less difficult, and they are non-corrosive. Furthermore, base-catalyzed reactions can be performed without using solvents and even in the gas phase, opening up more possibilities for discovering novel reaction systems. Using numerous examples, the present volume describes the remarkable role solid base catalysis can play, given the ever increasing worldwide importance of green chemistry. The reader will obtain an overall view of solid base catalysis and gain insight into the versatility of the reactions to which solid base catalysts can be utilized. The concept and significance of solid base catalysis are discussed, followed by descriptions of various methods for the characterization of solid bases, including spectroscopic methods and test reactions. The preparation and properties of base materials are presented in detail, with the two final chapters devoted to surveying the variety of reactions catalyzed by solid bases.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52406799597841,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52406800220433,"sku":"NLS9783642183386","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642183386.jpg?v=1758770478"},{"product_id":"basic-principles-in-applied-catalysis-book-manfred-baerns-9783540402619","title":"Basic Principles in Applied Catalysis","description":"Applied catalysis is based nowadays not only on empirical knowledge but also on the many insights, that have been gained from the fundamental understanding of catalysis. It also comprises knowledge and expertise from catalytic reaction engineering, in particular kinetics of the catalytic reaction and its interplay with heat and mass transfer as well as fluid dynamics and the specific conditions prevailing in the type of reactor used. Applied catalysis comprises many areas from a reaction point of view, many types of catalytic materials from which catalysts are formed are needed to achieve high selectivities and space-time yields, last but not least catalysts should have a long life time to which its deactivation is detrimental. A catalytic material that fulfils all the demands then often requires special mechanical and thermal treatment to be used in practise. Various books have been written about specific areas as mentioned above. Rapid progress has been made in this field in the last few years, mainly because of the discovery of unexpected new ionization proces- ses such as sputtering and laser-induced desorption. The aim of the conference was twofold: to acquire a basic understanding of these soft ionization processes on the one hand, and to examine their present and future analytical applications on the other. Je sought to bring. together scientists working in fundamental as well as applied research. The participants represented such widely varied fields as pure and applied phys- ics and chemistry, biochemistry, nuclear and solid-state physics, medicine, and pharmacology. These proceedings contain all of the papers presented at the conference. Six review papers cover the fundamentals of different ionization processes. The authors of these reviews were asked to give up-to-date surveys in- cluding characteristics of spectra, the influence of excitation parameters, tentative models for ion formation processes, and assessments of their ana- lytical applications. These reviews are followed by 26 contributed papers dealing with more specialized aspects of the ionization processes and their analytical applications.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52428163285265,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52428164006161,"sku":"NLS9783642871504","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642871504.jpg?v=1759163294"},{"product_id":"surface-and-interface-analysis-book-rudolf-holze-9783642056536","title":"Surface and Interface Analysis","description":"A broad, almost encyclopedic overview of spectroscopic and other analytical techniques useful for investigations of phase boundaries in electrochemistry is presented. Optical pulses with pulse widths shorter than 10 femtosecond - only a few optical cycles in du- ration - along with mono cycle infrared pulses, complex nonlinear optical solitons, electrooptic techniques with subpicosecond time resolutions, and a full toolkit of measurement and detection techniques have now emerged, including new methods for making ultrafast measurements in some cases even without ultrafast optical pulses.
