In particular, it focuses on both introducing classical theory and reviewing the latest methods. First, basic issues of mixed-effects models, such as parameter estimation, random effects prediction, variable selection, and asymptotic theory, are introduced. Standard mixed-effects models used in small area estimation, known as the Fay-Herriot model and the nested error regression model, are then introduced. Both frequentist and Bayesian approaches are given to compute predictors of small area parameters of interest. For measuring uncertainty of the predictors, several methods to calculate mean squared errors and confidence intervals are discussed. Various advanced approaches using mixed-effects models are introduced, from frequentist to Bayesian approaches. This book is helpful for researchers and graduate students in fields requiring data analysis skills as well as in mathematical statistics.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51066648297745,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51066650984721,"sku":"NIN9789811994852","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52674066088209,"sku":"NLS9789811994852","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9811994854.jpg?v=1751066087"},{"product_id":"concise-guide-to-statistics-book-hans-michael-kaltenbach-9783642235016","title":"A Concise Guide to Statistics","description":"The text gives a concise introduction into fundamental concepts in statistics. In human populations they may be caused by a refusal of some interviewees to give the true value for the variable of interest. Traditionally, simple random sampling is used to select samples. Most statistical models are supported by the use of samples selected by means of this design. In recent decades, an alternative design has started being used, which, in many cases, shows an improvement in terms of accuracy compared with traditional sampling. It is called Ranked Set Sampling (RSS). A random selection is made with the replacement of samples, which are ordered (ranked). The literature on the subject is increasing due to the potentialities of RSS for deriving more effective alternatives to well-established statistical models. In this work, the use of RSS sub-sampling for obtaining information among the non respondents and different imputation procedures are considered. RSS models are developed as counterparts of well-known simple random sampling (SRS) models. SRS and RSS models for estimating the population using missing data are presented and compared both theoretically and using numerical experiments.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52122005143825,"sku":"NLS9783642398988","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642398988.jpg?v=1757436745"},{"product_id":"l1-norm-and-l-norm-estimation-book-richard-farebrother-9783642362996","title":"L1-Norm and L -Norm Estimation","description":"This monograph is concerned with the fitting of linear relationships in the context of the linear statistical model. By predicting event attendance, events that better fit users’ interests can be recommended, and personalized location-based or topic-based services related to the events can be provided to users. Moreover, it can help event organizers estimating the event scale, identifying conflicts, and help manage resources. This book first surveys existing techniques on event attendance prediction and other related topics in event-based social networks. It then introduces a context-aware data mining approach to predict the event attendance by learning how users are likely to attend future events. Specifically, three sets of context-aware attributes are identified by analyzing users’ past activities, including semantic, temporal, and spatial attributes. This book illustrates how these attributes can be applied for event attendance prediction by incorporating them into supervised learning models, and demonstrates their effectiveness through a real-world dataset collected from event-based social networks.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52139194679569,"sku":"NLS9783030892616","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030892616.jpg?v=1757567624"},{"product_id":"model-choice-in-nonnested-families-book-carlos-pereira-9783662537350","title":"Model Choice in Nonnested Families","description":"This book discusses the problem of model choice when the statistical models are separate, also called nonnested. This method is particularly helpful in analyzing small-sample non-stationary macro-economic time series. The method is based on the frequency-domain application of the separating information maximum likelihood (SIML) method, which was proposed by Kunitomo, Sato, and Kurisu (Springer, 2018) for financial high-frequency time series. We solve the filtering problem of hidden random variables of trend-cycle, seasonal, and measurement-error components and propose a method to handle macro-economic time series. The asymptotic theory based on the frequency-domain analysis for non-stationary time series is developed with illustrative applications, including properties of the method of Muller and Watson (2018), and analyses of macro-economic data in Japan.    Vast research has been carried out on the use of statistical time series analysis for macro-economic time series. One important feature of the series, which is different from standard statistical time series analysis, is that the observed time series is an apparent mixture of non-stationary and stationary components. We apply the SIML method for estimating the non-stationary errors-in-variables models. As well, we discuss the asymptotic and finite sample properties of the estimation of unknown parameters in the statistical models. Finally, we utilize their results to solve the filtering problem of hidden random variables and to show that they lead to new a way to handle macro-economic time series.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52152069619985,"sku":"NGR9789819608812","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789819608812.jpg?v=1757615451"},{"product_id":"time-series-analysis-using-sas-enterprise-guide-book-timina-liu-9789811503207","title":"Time Series Analysis Using SAS Enterprise Guide","description":"This is the first book to present time series analysis using the SAS Enterprise Guide software. Written by experts in the subject, and based on lectures given at the Second Training School of the European Research and Training Network UTOPIAE (Uncertainty Treatment and Optimization in Aerospace Engineering), which took place at Durham University (United Kingdom) from 2 to 6 July 2018, the book offers an essential resource for students as well as scientists and practitioners.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52152646533393,"sku":"NGR9783030836399","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52427308630289,"sku":"NLS9783030836399","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52760442470673,"sku":"NIN9783030836399","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030836399.jpg?v=1757617365"},{"product_id":"machine-learning-in-medicine-cookbook-three-book-ton-j-cleophas-9783319121628","title":"Machine Learning in Medicine - Cookbook Three","description":"Unique features of the book involve the following.  1.This book is the third volume of a three volume series of cookbooks entitled \"Machine Learning in Medicine - Cookbooks One, Two, and Three\". No other self-assessment works for the medical and health care community covering the field of machine learning have been published to date.  2. Each chapter of the book can be studied without the need to consult other chapters, and can, for the readership's convenience, be downloaded from the internet. Self-assessment examples are available at extras.springer.com.  3. An adequate command of machine learning methodologies is a requirement for physicians and other health workers, particularly now, because the amount of medical computer data files currently doubles every 20 months, and, because, soon, it will be impossible for them to take proper data-based health decisions without the help of machine learning.  4. Given the importance of knowledge of machine learning in the medical and health care community, and the current lack of knowledge of it, the readership will consist of any physician and health worker.  5. The book was written in a simple language in order to enhance readability not only for the advanced but also for the novices.  6. The book is multipurpose, it is an introduction for ignorant, a primer for the inexperienced, and a self-assessment handbook for the advanced.  7. The book, was, particularly, written for jaded physicians and any other health care professionals lacking time to read the entire series of three textbooks.  8. Like the other two cookbooks it contains technical descriptions and self-assessment examples of 20 important computer methodologies for medical data analysis, and it, largely, skips the theoretical and mathematical background.  9. Information of theoretical and mathematical background of the methods described are displayed in a \"notes\" section at the end of eachchapter.  10.Unlike traditional statistical methods, the machine learning methodologies are able to analyze big data including thousands of cases and hundreds of variables.  11. The medical and health care community is little aware of the multidimensional nature of current medical data files, and experimental clinical studies are not helpful to that aim either, because these studies, usually, assume that subgroup characteristics are unimportant, as long as the study is randomized. This is, of course, untrue, because any subgroup characteristic may be vital to an individual at risk.  12. To date, except for a three volume introductary series on the subject entitled \"Machine Learning in Medicine Part One, Two, and Thee, 2013, Springer Heidelberg Germany\" from the same authors, and the current cookbook series, no books on machine learning in medicine have been published.  13. Another unique feature of the cookbooks is that it was jointly written by two authors from different disciplines, one being a clinician\/clinical pharmacologist, one being a mathematician\/biostatistician.  14. The authors have also jointly been teaching at universities and institutions throughout Europe and the USA for the past 20 years.  15. The authors have managed to cover the field of medical data analysis in a nonmathematical way for the benefit of medical and health workers.  16. The authors already successfully published many statistics textbooks and self-assessment books, e.g., the 67 chapter textbook entitled \"Statistics Applied to Clinical Studies 5th Edition, 2012, Springer Heidelberg Germany\" with downloads of 62,826 copies.  17. The current cookbook makes use, in addition to SPSS statistical software, of various free calculators from the internet, as well as the Konstanz Information Miner (Knime), a widely approved free machine learning package, and the free Weka Data Mining package from New Zealand.  18. The above software packages with hundreds of nodes, the basic processing units including virtually all of the statistical and data mining methods, can be used not only for data analyses, but also for appropriate data storage.  19. The current cookbook shows, particularly, for those with little affinity to value tables, that data mining in the form of a visualization process is very well feasible, and often more revealing than traditional statistics.  20.The Knime and Weka data miners uses widely available excel data files.  21. In current clinical research prospective cohort studies are increasingly replacing the costly controlled clinical trials, and modern machine learning methodologies like probit and tobit regressions as well as neural networks, Bayesian networks, and support vector machines prove to better fit their analysis than traditional statistical methods do.  22. The current cookbook not only includes concise descriptions of standard machine learning methods, but also of more recent methods like the linear machine learning models using ordinal and loglinear regression.  23. Machine learning tends to increasingly use evolutionary operation methodologies. Also this subject has been covered.  24. All of the methods described have been applied in the authors' own research prior to this publication.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52336194584849,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52336195240209,"sku":"NLS9783319121628","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319121628.jpg?v=1758162542"},{"product_id":"rankings-and-preferences-book-joaquim-pinto-da-costa-9783662483435","title":"Rankings and Preferences","description":"In this book we present new weighted correlation coefficients and new methods of weighted principal component analysis.We also introduce new methods of dimension reduction and clustering for time series data and describe some theoretical results on the weighted correlation coefficients in separate sections.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52400884711697,"sku":"NLS9783662483435","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783662483435.jpg?v=1758752972"},{"product_id":"regression-models-for-the-comparison-of-measurement-methods-book-heleno-bolfarine-9783030579340","title":"Regression Models for the Comparison of Measurement Methods","description":"This book provides an updated account of the regression techniques employed in comparing analytical methods and to test the biases of one method relative to others - a problem commonly found in fields like analytical chemistry, biology, engineering, and medicine.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52407276994833,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52407277715729,"sku":"NLS9783030579340","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030579340.jpg?v=1758771684"},{"product_id":"convolution-copula-econometrics-book-umberto-cherubini-9783319480145","title":"Convolution Copula Econometrics","description":"This book presents a novel approach to time series econometrics, which studies the behavior of nonlinear stochastic processes. The determination of sample size and the evaluation of power are fundamental and critical elements in the design of clinical trials. If the sample size is too small, important effects may go unnoticed; if the sample size is too large, it represents a waste of resources and unethically puts more participants at risk than necessary. Recently many clinical trials have been designed with more than one endpoint considered as multiple primary or co-primary, creating a need for new approaches to the design and analysis of these clinical trials. The book focuses on the evaluation of power and sample size determination when comparing the effects of two interventions in superiority clinical trials with multiple endpoints. Methods for sample size calculation in clinical trials where the alternative hypothesis is that there are effects on ALL endpoints are discussed in detail. The book also briefly examines trials designed with an alternative hypothesis of an effect on AT LEAST ONE endpoint with a prespecified non-ordering of endpoints.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52433091723537,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52433092903185,"sku":"NLS9783319220048","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319220048.jpg?v=1759176863"},{"product_id":"important-applications-of-the-behrens-fisher-statistic-and-the-false-discovery-r-book-tejas-a-desai-9783030998875","title":"Important Applications of the Behrens-Fisher Statistic and the False Discovery Rate","description":"This book discusses important applications of the Behrens-Fisher statistic and the False Discovery Rate (FDR). It offers a general overview of the basics of the LiNGAM approach for causal discovery, estimation principles, and algorithms.    This semiparametric approach is one of the most exciting new topics in the field of causal discovery. The new framework assumes parametric assumptions on the functional forms of structural equations but makes no assumption on the distributions of exogenous variables other than non-Gaussianity. It provides data-analysis tools capable of estimating a much wider class of causal relations even in the presence of hidden common causes. This feature is in contrast to conventional nonparametric approaches based on conditional independence of variables.    This book is highly recommended to readers who seek an in-depth and up-to-date overview of this new causal discovery approach to advance the technique as well as to those who are interested in applying this approach to real-world problems. In the part dealing with the principle, after a brief introduction of ordinary PCA, a PCA for categorical data (nominal and ordinal) is introduced as nonlinear PCA, in which an optimal scaling technique is used to quantify the categorical variables. The alternating least squares (ALS) is the main algorithm in the method. Multiple correspondence analysis (MCA), a special case of nonlinear PCA, is also introduced. All formulations in these methods are integrated in the same manner as matrix operations. Because any measurement levels data can be treated consistently as numerical data and ALS is a very powerful tool for estimations, the methods can be utilized in a variety of fields such as biometrics, econometrics, psychometrics, and sociology. In the applications part of the book, four applications are introduced: variable selection for mixed measurement levels data, sparse MCA, joint dimension reduction and clustering methods for categorical data, and acceleration of ALS computation. The variable selection methods in PCA that originally were developed for numerical data can be applied to any types of measurement levels by using nonlinear PCA. Sparseness and joint dimension reduction and clustering for nonlinear data, the results of recent studies, are extensions obtained by the same matrix operations in nonlinear PCA. Finally, an acceleration algorithm is proposed to reduce the problem of computational cost in the ALS iteration in nonlinear multivariate methods. This book thus presents the usefulness of nonlinear PCA which can be applied to different measurement levels data in diverse fields. As well, it covers the latest topics including the extension of the traditional statistical method, newly proposed nonlinear methods, and computational efficiency in the methods.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52455988199697,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52455988723985,"sku":"NLS9789811001574","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811001574.jpg?v=1759375953"},{"product_id":"machine-translation-with-minimal-reliance-on-parallel-resources-book-george-tambouratzis-9783319631059","title":"Machine Translation with Minimal Reliance on Parallel Resources","description":"This book provides a unified view on a new methodology for Machine Translation (MT). Model-based reasoning is central to science education and thus science assessment. Current interest in developing and using models has increased with the release of the Next Generation Science Standards, which identified this as one of the eight practices of science and engineering. However, the interactive, complex, and often technology-based tasks that are needed to assess model-based reasoning in its fullest forms are difficult to develop.      Building on research in assessment, science education, and learning science, this Brief describes a suite of design patterns that can help assessment designers, researchers, and teachers create tasks for assessing aspects of model-based reasoning: Model Formation, Model Use, Model Elaboration, Model Articulation, Model Evaluation, Model Revision, and Model-Based Inquiry. Each design pattern lays out considerations concerning targeted knowledge and ways of capturing and evaluating students’ work. These design patterns are available at http:\/\/design-drk.padi.sri.com\/padi\/do\/NodeAction?state=listNodes\u0026amp;NODE_TYPE=PARADIGM_TYPE. Although ships' autopilot systems are considered through the entire book, the methods set forth in this book can be applied to many other complicated, large, or noisy feedback control systems for which it is difficult to derive a model of the entire system based on theory in that subject area. The basic models used in this method are the multivariate autoregressive model with exogenous variables (ARX) model and the radial bases function net-type coefficients ARX model. The noise contribution analysis can then be performed through the estimated autoregressive (AR) model and various types of autopilot systems can be designed through the state-space representation of the models. The marine autopilot systems addressed in this book include optimal controllers for course-keeping motion, rolling reduction controllers with rudder motion, engine governor controllers, noise adaptive autopilots, route-tracking controllers by direct steering, and the reference course-setting approach. The methods presented here are exemplified with real data analysis and experiments on real ships. It collects the recursive algorithms for estimating dynamic mixtures of various distributions and brings them in the unified form, providing a scheme for constructing the estimation algorithm for a mixture of components modeled by distributions with reproducible statistics. It offers the recursive estimation of dynamic mixtures, which are free of iterative processes and close to analytical solutions as much as possible. In addition, these methods can be used online and simultaneously perform learning, which improves their efficiency during estimation. The book includes detailed program codes for solving the presented theoretical tasks. Codes are implemented in the open source platform for engineering computations. The program codes given serve to illustrate the theory and demonstrate the work of the included algorithms.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52535089529105,"sku":"NLS9783319646701","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319646701.jpg?v=1760670259"},{"product_id":"parametric-and-nonparametric-statistics-for-sample-surveys-and-customer-satisfac-book-rosa-arboretti-9783319917399","title":"Parametric and Nonparametric Statistics for Sample Surveys and Customer Satisfaction Data","description":"This book deals with problems related to the evaluation of customer satisfaction in very different contexts and ways. Often satisfaction about a product or service is investigated through suitable surveys which try to capture the satisfaction about several partial aspects which characterize the perceived quality of that product or service. This book presents a series of statistical techniques adopted to analyze data from real situations where customer satisfaction surveys were performed.  The aim is to give a simple guide of the variety of analysis that can be performed when analyzing data from sample surveys: starting from latent variable models to heterogeneity in satisfaction and also introducing some testing methods for comparing different customers. The book also discusses the construction of composite indicators including different benchmarks of satisfaction. Finally, some rank-based procedures for analyzing survey data are also shown.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52536026136849,"sku":"NLS9783319917399","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319917399.jpg?v=1760672870"},{"product_id":"survival-analysis-with-correlated-endpoints-book-takeshi-emura-9789811335150","title":"Survival Analysis with Correlated Endpoints","description":"This book introduces readers to advanced statistical methods for analyzing survival data involving correlated endpoints. For this purpose, the authors consider maximum likelihood estimation for univariate and multivariate finite mixtures where components are members of the flexible class of SMSN distributions. This subclass includes the entire family of normal independent distributions, also known as scale mixtures of normal distributions (SMN), as well as the skew-normal and skewed versions of some other classical symmetric distributions: the skew-t (ST), the skew-slash (SSL) and the skew-contaminated normal (SCN), for example. These distributions have heavier tails than the typical normal one, and thus they seem to be a reasonable choice for robust inference. The proposed EM-type algorithm and methods are implemented in the R package mixsmsn, highlighting the applicability of the techniques presented in the book. This work is a useful reference guide for researchers analyzing heterogeneous data, as well as a textbook for a graduate-level course in mixture models. The tools presented in the book make complex techniques accessible to applied researchers without the advanced mathematical background and will have broad applications in fields like medicine, biology, engineering, economic, geology and chemistry.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52584971141393,"sku":"NLS9783319980287","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319980287.jpg?v=1761051719"},{"product_id":"empirical-likelihood-and-quantile-methods-for-time-series-book-yan-liu-9789811001512","title":"Empirical Likelihood and Quantile Methods for Time Series","description":"This book integrates the fundamentals of asymptotic theory of statistical inference for time series under nonstandard settings, e.g., infinite variance processes, not only from the point of view of efficiency but also from that of robustness and optimality by minimizing prediction error. This is the first book to consider the generalized empirical likelihood applied to time series models in frequency domain and also the estimation motivated by minimizing quantile prediction error without assumption of true model. It provides the reader with a new horizon for understanding the prediction problem that occurs in time series modeling and a contemporary approach of hypothesis testing by the generalized empirical likelihood method. Nonparametric aspects of the methods proposed in this book also satisfactorily address economic and financial problems without imposing redundantly strong restrictions on the model, which has been true until now. Dealing with infinite variance processes makesanalysis of economic and financial data more accurate under the existing results from the demonstrative research. The scope of applications, however, is expected to apply to much broader academic fields. The methods are also sufficiently flexible in that they represent an advanced and unified development of prediction form including multiple-point extrapolation, interpolation, and other incomplete past forecastings. Consequently, they lead readers to a good combination of efficient and robust estimate and test, and discriminate pivotal quantities contained in realistic time series models.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52593312235793,"sku":"NLS9789811001512","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811001512.jpg?v=1761067568"},{"product_id":"student-s-t-distribution-and-related-stochastic-processes-book-bronius-grigelionis-9783642311451","title":"Student's t-Distribution and Related Stochastic Processes","description":"Using the independently scattered random measures generated by the bi-variate centred Student-Levy process, and stochastic integration theory, a univariate, strictly stationary process with the centred Student's t- marginals and the arbitrary correlation structure are defined.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52594551718161,"sku":"NLS9783642311451","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642311451.jpg?v=1761069574"},{"product_id":"adaptive-sampling-designs-book-george-af-seber-9783642336560","title":"Adaptive Sampling Designs","description":"This book aims to provide an overview of some adaptive techniques used in estimating parameters for finite populations where the sampling at any stage depends on the sampling information obtained to date. The areas covered involve a range of topics which reflect the diversity of this domain of research across a number of quantitative disciplines. For instance, the first chapter provides up-to-date coverage of particle association measures that underpin the theoretical properties of recently developed random set methods in space and time otherwise known as the class of probability hypothesis density framework (PHD filters). The second chapter gives an overview of recent advances in Monte Carlo methods for Bayesian filtering in high-dimensional spaces. In particular, the chapter explains how one may extend classical sequential Monte Carlo methods for filtering and static inference problems to high dimensions and big-data applications. The third chapter presents an overview of generalized families of processes that extend the class of Gaussian process models to heavy-tailed families known as alpha-stable processes. In particular, it covers aspects of characterization via the spectral measure of heavy-tailed distributions and then provides an overview of their applications in wireless communications channel modeling. The final chapter concludes with an overview of analysis for probabilistic spatial percolation methods that are relevant in the modeling of graphical networks and connectivity applications in sensor networks, which also incorporate stochastic geometryfeatures.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52615674560785,"sku":"NLS9784431553359","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9784431553359.jpg?v=1761524834"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/collections\/springerbriefs-in-statistics-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
