His unlikely choice would set the course not just for each of their careers but for jazz.\"Clawing at the Limits of Cool\" examines the profound implications that the collaboration would have on African-American culture, producing such landmark albums as Milestones and Kind of Blue. Who Set You Flowin'? examines the impact of this dislocation and urbanization, identifying the resulting Migration Narratives as a major genre in African-American cultural production. Griffin takes an interdisciplinary approach with readings of several literary texts, migrant correspondence, painting, photography, rap music, blues, and rhythm and blues. From these various sources Griffin isolates the tropes of Ancestor, Stranger, and Safe Space, which, though common to all Migration Narratives, vary in their portrayal. She argues that the emergence of a dominant portrayal of these tropes is the product of the historical and political moment, often challenged by alternative portrayals in other texts or artistic forms, as well as intra-textually. Richard Wright's bleak, yet cosmopolitan portraits were countered by Dorothy West's longing for Black Southern communities. Ralph Ellison, while continuing Wright's vision, reexamined the significance of Black Southern culture. Griffin concludes with Toni Morrison embracing the South \"as a site of African-American history and culture,\" \"a place to be redeemed.\"","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ WELL_READ \/ SBYB","offer_id":50346122379537,"sku":"CIN0195088972A","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50429199778065,"sku":"CIN0195088972G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51289681395985,"sku":"GOR013048060","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52335702049041,"sku":"NLS9780195088977","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52968356282641,"sku":"CIN0195088972VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0195088972.jpg?v=1751324070"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/de-ch\/collections\/autor-buecher-von-farah-jasmine-griffin.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
