Johan Galtung is the world's most experienced peace studies professor, and founder of the peace studies discipline. This book lays out the limitless variety of the uses to which conflict resolution theory can be applied. Revealing the interconnections between conflict at all levels of society, Galtung argues that an equal variety of solutions are available to us, if we are willing to explore them.    The book will be of interest to anyone who deals with conflict on a daily basis – such as teachers, social workers, parents and couples – as well as students of peace studies. The book is organized in four parts, each examining the one of the four major theoretical approaches to peace. The first part covers peace theory, exploring the epistemological assumptions of peace. In Part Two conflict theory is examined with an exploration of nonviolent and creative handling of conflict. Developmental theory is discussed in Part Three, exploring structural violence, particularly in the economic field, together with a consideration of the ways of overcoming that violence. The fourth part is devoted to civilization theory. This involves an exploration of cultural violence focusing on the deeper aspects of cultures. Finally, the threads of these four approaches are drawn together with a focus on peace action - peace by peaceful means.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":49729716125969,"sku":"NGR9780803975118","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50226302124305,"sku":"GOR002534681","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51007639257361,"sku":"NIN9780803975118","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51612316598545,"sku":"CIN0803975112G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52344994136337,"sku":"NLS9780803975118","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":52992271057169,"sku":"CIN0803975112VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0803975112.jpg?v=1750850206"},{"product_id":"searching-for-peace-book-johan-galtung-9780745319285","title":"Searching for Peace","description":"This is one of the first books to bridge the gap between peace and conflict studies, world order and globalisation. Ikeda is a leading Buddhist, author and educator and is deeply rooted in the Mahayana Buddhism of Nichiren. Galtung is the founder of the Institute for Peace Research in Oslo and has developed a more general Buddhist orientation. Together, through dialogue, they search for ways of interfacing Buddhism and peace. Far from abstract, their search inspires very concrete proposals that are directly relevant to the political agendas of today.      Presented as a dialogue between the two men, Choose Peace explores practical solutions to many of the global problems afflicting the world today. Galtung and Ikeda identify sources of violence and unrest and consider the role of Buddhism in formulating peaceful solutions to violence. The implications of political forces such as nationalism and socialism are considered and the role of human rights, grassroots power and the United Nations in peacekeeping initiatives are explored.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49972776698129,"sku":"GOR005278286","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":49999727001873,"sku":"CIN0745310397G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50762769596689,"sku":"CIN0745310397VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0745310397.jpg?v=1750784299"},{"product_id":"handbook-of-peace-and-conflict-studies-book-johan-galtung-9780415483193","title":"Handbook of Peace and Conflict Studies","description":"This major Handbook provides a cutting-edge and transdisciplinary overview of the main issues, debates, state-of-the-art methods, and key concepts in peace and conflict studies today. They have forged a transdisciplinary and professional identity distinct from security studies, political science, and international relations.   The volume is divided into four sections:    understanding and transforming conflict creating peace supporting peace peace across the disciplines.   Each section features new essays by distinguished international scholars and professionals working in peace studies and conflict resolution and transformation. Drawing from a wide range of theoretical, methodological, and political positions, the editors and contributors offer topical and enduring approaches to peace and conflict studies. Das Buch stutzt sich auf mehr als 200 Vortrage uber dieses Thema mit Diskussionen, zwischen Juni 1981 und Oktober 1983 in 20 Landern in Ost und West, Nord und Sud, und es ist stark von dem inspiriert, was ich aus diesen Diskussionen gelernt habe - in Gegenwart von Politikern, Militars, Menschen im aUgemeinen, ob Mit- glieder der Friedensbewegung oder nicht. Denn diese Menschen, die immer noch nach Alternativen suchen, sind die echten Glaubigen an die besten Aspekte westlicher Zivilisation, nicht jene, deren Geist verschlossen ist, die immer dieselbe Antwort praduzieren: mehr Waffen. Falls es uns moglich sein soUte, wieder ans Tageslicht zu kommen, so wird dies geschehen, weil der Druck von der Friedensbewegung her stark genug ist und in der richtigen Richtung erfolgt. It covers such concepts as direct, structural and cultural violence; theories of conflict, development, civilization and peace; peaceful conflict transformation; peace education; mediation; reconciliation; a life-sustaining economy; macro-history; deep culture and deep structure; and social science methodology. Galtung has contributed original research, concepts and theories to more than 20 social science disciplines, including sociology, international relations and future studies, and has also applied his new insights in practice. The book is a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners, and can serve as a supplemental textbook for graduate and upper undergraduate courses in peace studies and related fields.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52664354308369,"sku":"NLS9783642324802","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53560020271377,"sku":"CIN3642324800G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642324802.jpg?v=1762274402"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/de-ch\/collections\/autor-buecher-von-johan-galtung.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
