Turgenev was the first of the great Russian novelists to win fame abroad. One of his great admirers was Henry James, who wrote that Turgenev's merit of form is of the first order The story featured in this release is relatively unknown in English speaking markets despite being a school texbook classic back in Russia. This revised edition of Mumu was first published in London in English in as audio book in 2010. The audio book produced very strong response from listeners. A story great in emotion and meaning that makes you want to read his other books. What a successful introduction to a great writer, wrote Philippe Felsenhardt (USA) in his review. This edition has whet my appetite for Turgenev on the page, wrote another reviewer Joseph Belliveau (Canada). Other reviewers wrote that the story brought them close to tears and that they would very much enjoy reading it in paper format. So the paper edition of this story with annotations in both original Russian and English languages is hereby produced to satisfy demand of enthusiastic readers. It is remarkable how new media such as audio book extends life of original paper book. It begins with a man walking St. Petersburg's streets while musing upon how ridiculous his life is, as well as its distinct lack of meaning or purpose. This train of thought leads him to the idea of suicide, which he resolves to commit using a previously-acquired gun. However, a chance encounter with a distressed little girl in the street derails his drastic plans. Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881) was a Russian novelist, essayist, short story writer, journalist, and philosopher. His literature examines human psychology during the turbulent social, spiritual and political atmosphere of 19th-century Russia, and he is considered one of the greatest psychologists in world literature. A prolific writer, Dostoevsky produced 11 novels, three novellas, 17 short stories and numerous other works. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. Other notable works by this author include: Crime and Punishment (1866), Notes from the Underground (1864), and The Idiot (1869). We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49663678349585,"sku":"GOR002847873","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52138287563025,"sku":"NLS9781853993640","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1853993646.jpg?v=1751123610"},{"product_id":"rudin-book-ivan-turgenev-9781853992964","title":"Rudin","description":"This book is part of the TREDITION CLASICS series. While its first performance was a fiasco, the play was revived in 1898 and staged by the newly founded Moscow Art Theatre, who 'adopted' Chekhov and built their own success on masterly performances of his plays, beginning with The Seagull. Produced by Nemirovich-Danchenko, with Konstantin Stanislavsky as Trigorin and Meyerhold as Treplev, it was a triumph for both the Theatre and the playwright. In this play Chekhov first demonstrated his innovatory technique of indirect action and new dramatic structure and his skill in creating atmosphere on the stage and portraying subtle shifts in human relationships. Treplev's modernist-symbolist play-within-the-play is only one of The Seagull's links with Shakespeare's Hamlet.
