A Street Through Time by Steve Noon
Revised and updated for a new generationIn a series of fourteen intriguing illustrations, the award-winning A Street Through Time tells the story of human history by exploring a street as it evolves from 10,000 BCE to the present day.
Watch the landscape and daily lives of the street's inhabitants change, as the small settlement grows into a city, is struck by war and plague, and gains trade and industry. Throughout, children are asked to study the photos in order to find a time traveler in each scene, as well as to pick out interesting details, encouraging them to pore over the unique illustrations and more easily learn about the historical background.
Steve Noon has worked as an illustrator in many fields. The superb detail and technical brilliance of his illustration, combined with his long-standing interest in history, brought him commissions for two previous Dorling Kindersley books: Open House and A Street Through Time. The latter won Longman's prestigious History Book of the Year Prize in the History Today Awards 2000. Dr. Eric Kentley is currently assistant director at the Design Museum, London. Previously he was head of ship technology at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. During research for the museum's Wreck of the Titanic exhibition in 1995, he took part in an expedition to the site of the wreck and dived down to the Titanic wreck in a submersible. Eric Kentley is also the author of Dorling Kindersley's Explore the Titanic and Eyewitness Boat.
