The Art of War by Sun Tzu

The perfect introduction to one of the world's best-known classics. Part of the Macmillan Collector’s Library; a series of stunning, pocket-sized classics bound in real cloth with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. Translated and edited by author and scriptwriter Jonathan Clements. This is a fresh, contemporary translation of Sun Tzu's The Art of War for the 21st century. As well as its historical importance, it is one of the most influential political and business books of our era. This edition rediscovers the essential clarity of the ancient masterpiece, cited by generals from a dozen Chinese dynasties, international business leaders, and modern military field manuals. It also contains a full commentary on Sun Tzu, the man and his ideas, contemporary of Confucius and Buddha; and a critical guide to further reading.

Sun Tzu (Master Sun) was a native of the north-eastern Chinese kingdom of Qi. He was a contemporary of Confucius and famous by 512 BC as the author of 'thirteen chapters' on military matters. Recruited by the ruler of the southern kingdom of Wu, he was supposedly responsible for several decisive victories over neighbouring states.

The translator, Jonathan Clements, is the author of many books on Asia including biographies of Chairman Mao, Confucius and Khublai Khan.
